  1. Aside from the political angle, of course domestic beef producers, at a time where they're selling for historically high prices, don't want to see increased supply from international sources.
  2. Looks like a tough shot there!
  3. Yeah, it was so wet outside this morning at sunup in Houston you would have thought it had just finished raining. >90% humidity at 7 am. High of ~91 today is just 1-2 degrees shy of the record. Just not at all what Late October should feel like. On the bright side, the rest of the extended forecast looks better than today:
  4. Somewhere between 93 and 95 today (lost count in the middle of a set). So close!
  5. Per SCW, this has been the warmest first half of October ever, going by average high temp:
  6. Most promising buck seen out at our lease in a long time yesterday evening. Hope he can manage to steer clear of any neighbors for another 2 weeks.
  7. Minor front rolling through tomorrow evening. Waking up Sunday should be a treat, but it won't last more than a day or two. High 80's for most of next week. GFS is starting to envision our first legit front heading down from Canada sometime around the 28th. I'll start buying in if it still showing up in the models 4-5 days from now. 11 days out is just a crapshoot.
  8. Out of curiosity I looked back and Fall '24 basically started a year ago today. First real cold front of the season rolled in on 10/16/24 and cooled things down to the 70's and 50's for a few days, but it reverted right back to Late Summer again the following week. Hit 90 for the final time that year on 10/26. Took several more weeks for it to get consistently cool. First 15 days of November were warmer than average.
  9. What time do you East TX hunters set your feeders for the mornings? I feel like last year we had ours way too early for the first few weeks. Sitting in the dark for 40+ minutes after going off. It wasn't what I'd consider light enough to shoot until about 5 minutes past 7 this morning. I'm thinking maybe 6:45 am for now, adjust to 6 am after the time change, and then nudge it up to 6:20 or so after Thanksgiving? Currently going off at 5:45 in the evenings, but will probably adjust to ~4:30 after the time change. Making a quick trip up Saturday to top off feeders and set the feed schedule.
  10. Feels pretty damn good out there this morning. I'd love if it were 8-10 degrees colder, but I'll take what I can get for now. Spending the weekend in Baton Rouge and I definitely ain't complaining about this forecast:
  11. I remember this story when it first came out last year, specifically cause there were so many smoking-gun quotes from both the software vendor and the companies that used it. The plaintiffs lawyers involved must have thought they'd died and gone to heaven.
  12. Breaking: Mini Orbit also sent packing. Bobby Dynamite evicted from his perch atop Union Station, and it's a bloodbath amongst the Shooting Stars.
  13. Hard to call this a "cold front", given that highs will still be around 90, but this weekend is gonna feel so much nicer than the last few days. "Dry front" is probably a better term. Sidenote, if you want a reminder of just how dumb the general public is, read the replies when local weather anchor posts something like this. The amount of people that can't read a clearly-labeled chart and/or don't understand the difference between dewpoint and temperature is impressive.
  14. I-10 at 45 bout to be (even more) of a disaster due to lane closures related to the project to raise the roadway out of the White Oak flood zone. Starting later this month, it'll be down to 2 lanes through late next year. Certain routes (like the eastbound ramp to 45) will be out of commission through 2028. On the bright side, at least 10 will eventually go over the Houston Ave. bridge instead of under. Big rigs that are too tall have smashed into the bridge 72 times already this year!
  15. Completely unexpected, but got about 45 minutes of rain last night between 9-10 in my neck of 77018. More than a drizzle, but not exactly a drought buster. Another muggy day with temps 8-9 above the average high and low today. Drier air not set to arrive until late tomorrow evening. At this time Friday morning, the dewpoint should be about 20 degrees lower than it is currently.
  16. Houston weather, October 2024: 26th ended up being the last day of the year where we hit 90. 27th (88) was the last day above 85.
  17. Average high for October 7th is 86, average low is 64. So yes, 93/75 is what I would call unseasonable.
  18. Yeah, it's a "backdoor" mass of drier air coming from the northeast, rather than the typical front coming from Canada and heading south through the panhandle.
  19. Just going by what the models say. Dewpoint projections for Wed-Fri:
  20. 93/74 forecast for tomorrow in Houston. That's 7 above the average high and 10 above the average low for 10/7. No sign of any legit fronts before next weekend maybe, but by this Friday it should feel a bit nicer than the early part of this week. Dewpoints drop back into the low 50's this weekend, so it will be unseasonably warm, but not miserable, and should be pretty nice in the mornings and after sunset.
  21. I prefer the original meme:
  22. Might soon need to go dig up my old meme posting of "Friendship with WTI ended, Now nat gas is my best friend"
  23. High of 90-93, low of 71-74 every single day for the next 10 days. Next Saturday might, just barely, be the next day where the high drops to 89 or less. Looks like the trade-off for a pretty mild Summer was that it's just gonna stretch into November.
  24. NOt yet. Will probably end up waiting closer to the holidays. Good looking watch there.
