  1. Yup, I've seen some of the Boris Epshteyn pieces there. Aside from that their local news doesn't seem much worse or better than the other local stations - none of them are good.
  2. I am often mistaken for Brad Pitt's better-looking brother.
  3. Less likely to get beaten. More likely to get shot.
  4. Yeah, beer is good. That trap is more elaborate than necessary, though. If you have some cheap shit someone brought to a party that you don't want to drink, pour out some into small saucers near the plants. Slugs will crawl in and drown. One summer I was doing this and had a family of skunks - momma skunk and 4 babies - come waddling in every night just after sundown; they would eat the slugs and drink the beer, and usually eat some of the slugs that didn't make it into the beer as well.
  5. My balls tried to crawl up inside several times during that. Fear of heights is increased since falling off a ladder a couple of years ago; nope nope nope.
  6. Yeah, I heard that somewhere before... now where was it... Oh, yeah: You guys get your talking points from the same place? You need to tell wherever it is that this is a really dumb one. Uday gets extra dumb points for calling a magazine a clip, and is henceforth deemed too ignorant about guns to participate in further discussion on the subject.
  7. Jared Loughner was taken down when his gun jammed. Similar situation.
  8. Just a way to get some painted tites into the conversation.
  9. I've been using this recipe for Chili Shrimp for a few years. I think it's based on Singaporean chili crab, but I've also seen variations that are allegedly Szechuan. Doesn't seem very Szechuanny to me, but you never know. It's delicious, anyway, and when the garlic-shallot-ginger-pepper mixture hits the hot oil the smell is fantastic. Chili Shrimp 1 2-inch piece ginger, peeled 3 garlic cloves, peeled and lightly crushed 2 shallots, peeled and roughly chopped 4 fresh small chilies like Thai, or seeded and stemmed dried red chilies or dried red chili flakes to taste 3 tablespoons corn, grapeseed or other neutral oil 2 tablespoons tomato paste, or 1 medium tomato, chopped 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice 2 tablespoons nam pla (Thai fish sauce) 2 teaspoons soy sauce 1 tablespoon sugar 1 to 1 1/2 pounds small peeled shrimp. 1. Mince ginger, garlic, shallots and chilies in food processor. 2. Put oil in wok or large skillet and turn heat to medium-high; a minute later, add minced spices and cook, stirring constantly, for about 30 seconds. 3. Stir in tomato paste, lime juice, nam pla, soy sauce, sugar and 2 tablespoons water. Add shrimp and coat with sauce. Cook just until sauce is bubbling and shrimp turns pink, about 5 minutes. 4. Serve over rice or noodles.
  10. Perhaps there's a connection. Certainly worth looking into with actual controlled studies. Are you saying there is some kind of solution to the school shooting problem here? Because if so you're going to have to be a hell of a lot more specific. Do we ban SSRIs? Regulate their use? How? Do we control access to weapons for kids on SSRIs? Or coming off SSRIs? Or what? In other words, do you have an actual solution? Or is this just hand-waving to deflect from the topic?
  11. So you or Smokey are saying there's a connection between antidepressant use among kids and school shootings? You got any evidence for that hypothesis?
  12. OK. Police and school district fucked up. Now how do we prevent the next one?
  13. Drugging the kids? What kind of drugs are you talking about?
  14. On the other hand, those brainiacs at PJ Media say it's libs that love school shootings: I don't think anybody really wants kids to get shot. Why don't we figure out a way for it not to happen as often as it has been doing?
  15. Avocado toast for breakfast. 'Cause I'm all trendy and shit. Garnished with fried egg and bacon. And check out that fucking plate!
  16. Depends on what you're planting. In general the deeper the better, for root development, I would think. But as to raised beds in general, I've been going back and forth about it. I've tried them, and don't see the advantage. I think it depends on the type of soil you have; if you have 2" of topsoil over caliche, then sure, they're pretty much a necessity. But if you have deep clay soil, like I do, then they are counterproductive; the last thing you need in a climate with summers as hot as Texas has is more drainage - the soil dries out too fast already. Clay soil holds moisture, and has a lot of nutrients also. What I've settled on after much trial and error is the opposite of raised beds: sunken beds, if you will. Dig a hole big enough for a planting bed, getting rid of rocks and roots and whatever, and fill it with whatever material you'd use for a raised bed (I use mostly compost). Put the excess soil you dug out around the edge as a berm, or just dump it somewhere else. Or if that's too much trouble, dig a hole for each plant that you're going to put in - tomatoes or peppers or whatever - and fill it with good soil or compost and then plant your plants. Watering will be much easier and the beds won't dry out as fast. Once the plants' roots get too big for the bed or hole you put them in, they'll encounter the clay soil, instead of being confined to a raised bed.
  17. Stupid fucking business concept in the first place. I mean, a drive-thru place for fucking pina coladas and frozen daiquiris? What kind of brain-damaged asshole thinks that's a good idea? Gotdamn moron, that's what.
  18. Some of you people are living in the past. Let's move on to bigger and better things. Or maybe nice things even. Onward, I say!
