  1. When I had just started at UT my close friend/roommate’s older brother suddenly died. He was just starting his adult life, a hilarious guy and great dude. Had a gf he was likely going to marry, it was just totally gutting all around. My friend’s parents needed to be with their surviving son and lived out of town so they drove in and our little shitty West Campus apartment became the spot where the parents, brother, girlfriend, and a few of his other close friends gathered to grieve the night that they lost him. I’ll never forget the immeasurable loss and grief I witnessed that night. I was lucky enough to not have ever personally experienced much loss up to that point and that night just imprinted on me. Aside from the tears, hugs, and sadness that you would expect what really surprised me was the laughter. There were three or four legitimately hilarious jokes/stories his mother told that had the entire room rolling. I’m not sure how the woman even had the strength to stand, let alone allow herself to make us laugh and allow herself to laugh along. The laughter was all mixed up with and sometimes overlapped with the crying. It certainly didn’t make the loss or the grief go away but it was part of everyone in that room’s process. I’ll never forget that sound of laughter coming from the saddest room I had ever been in my life though.
  2. Just cruel and horrible. I can’t stop thinking about Sam, Jake, and his mom’s hug last week after the draft call. Fuck. RIP
  3. To go ahead and close this very stupid loop, Teddy himself has no issue calling himself a leader when it comes to asking for money: https://www.tedcruz.org/proven-leader/
  4. Oh yeah, I get that. We've seen it here plenty too, Kasey Studdard was a 6th round pick and struggled to get a foothold in the NFL but he was invaluable to us on a national championship team (and the last line we had that was actually good). I don't follow Clemson football that closely, so I'm more wondering if it's something specific about what they look for in their OL. Are they consistently bringing in guys like Hyatt who project/develop as good college linemen within their specific scheme but don't have NFL measurables? Or are they recruiting blue chip guys that can play anywhere but for whatever reason they are failing to develop them and their lines are seen as underachieving?
  5. Was it Roach that was recently pushing the narrative that JQJ had poisoned the well for Duncanville prospects for the foreseeable future and the staff wasn’t even wasting their time there anymore?
  6. Apparently the loophole is you can say literally anything you want as long as it’s in the form of a question and you do it in the most cunty way possible.
  7. So admittedly I may have responded a little strongly to your post yesterday; I read it at not the best time for me to personally be seeing somebody downplaying his bullshit. A few things though: AOC is constantly used to make some kind of "both sides" post and it's clumsy or just wrong almost every time. Yes, she's good at Twitter but she is not a troll. You can think she is an idiot or disagree with every position she has but show me where she has ever compromised herself in order to troll the opposition. She uses Twitter to advocate for her principles, even when she'll happily lean into a "brutal twitter takedown" headline. That isn't Ted. I'm not really interested in a leaders vs. representatives argument but I think you are way off base. What matters is the part in bold. Tons of people do look to elected officials to be leaders whether they should or not. Maybe it's because people are stupid (and lots of them are!), maybe it's because they are naïve, maybe it's because they are lemmings. No matter the reason they do and it's a responsibility. Ted Cruz has never once taken that responsibility seriously and during a pandemic as a US Senator in a state the size of Texas that has real consequences. Fuck him.
  8. What ever happened to Javonne Shepherd? Still hitting the books trying to satisfy those rigorous a&m academic standards? Has he even been playing juco football? Tough look on his 247 page: https://247sports.com/player/javonne-shepherd-46037308/
  9. This is fascinating and I'm not sure what to make of it exactly. Looks like they've retained the same OL coach since 2011 so that has been consistent for almost all of Dabo's run. Have they had big time recruits that have failed to develop into high draft picks or is OL a position where their own evals don't really match up with NFL projections? When I think of Clemson's offense during this period I think of the star qbs and and absolute murderers row of good wrs. A couple good rbs. Not sure if I've ever thought of a Clemson OL being particularly dominant or a liability. On defense it's a stacked defensive line, like you mentioned, and some white linebacker running around untouched behind it.
  10. He’s a Senator, it’s not his fucking job to have a strong troll game. If he wants to resign I’m happy to judge him on those terms. Also, if he was a real leader and wasn’t happily feeding his constituents bullshit do you think it’s possible that fewer Texans would be dead? How many fewer for you to give a shit? 10, 100, 1000? What is the line for dangerous and callous behavior where it stops being so funny that the guy is triggering libs online?
  11. Well, RRRP has been busting his ass to solve that problem for you by killing as many olds as possible, yet we've just been giving him grief about it.
  12. Incredible stuff to be days removed from seeing more Alabama players go in the first round than you had taken the entire draft and confidently state that the talent gap has been narrowing for years. Sure though, can't discount that Kyle snap count advantage.
  13. Yeah, it makes sense for Thompson to be the Banks contingency as long as he doesn't enroll thinking he's a db. I wonder if the new DC at Auburn telling Thompson that linebacker is his college future is why he's portaled in the first place. Relatedly, I'm not sure if it has been mentioned but that new DC is Derek Mason who was at Vandy so I guess is their in for Kaufman.
  14. Just need to get him sorted with an...um...college strength and conditioning program.
  15. The amount of fucks this staff seems to give about scholarship limits is very refreshing. If a guy is available who could help the program, go try to get him. The numbers will work themselves out.
  16. Sort of interesting interview with Epps on the Athletic, gives a bit of a behind the scenes look: Epps being sold on LA because it was a place he could get to and "relax" made me laugh, as did him saying he could "block...to a degree".
  17. I won't quote the dumb troll, but if he does have a pregnant wife she is absolutely more at risk of serious complications while pregnant. And acting like the only thing that matters is the percentage chance that it will kill him/his wife is blindingly stupid, getting seriously ill while pregnant with symptoms like high fever and respiratory illness can have huge consequences for both an expecting mother and her unborn baby. He's worried about lack of research on pregnant women with the vaccine while also not getting the shot himself-further exposing his wife to the risk? Jesus Christ man. Conversely, the limited studies (in addition to decades of vaccine research) shows that pregnant women who are getting the shot are not putting themselves or their baby at risk getting the shot and are passing antibodies to their baby in utero. Even if the only thing he cares about in the world is his immediate family he's being a selfish cunt. We got my pregnant wife vaccinated as soon as we possibly could on the recommendation of every single doctor that we know and trust.
  18. Thank Christ we didn't hire that prick. I was not looking forward to wrapping my mind around rooting for Brian Kelly Texas Football, especially after four years of Herman press conferences.
  19. I've got no opinion about this specific kid but as a counterpoint, most big time college football HC are not exactly famous for their emotional intelligence when it comes to identifying depression and mental health needs of their players. The coaching fraternity isn't exactly a bunch of Ted Lasso's out there making sure everyone is taking the proper time for self-care.
  20. That's fair and it's a good data point. I'm mostly on the same page but I'll say last year's FEI seems pretty screwy in general. Maybe because of the weird COVID schedules and limited OOC games. https://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/ncaa/fei/overall/2020 Group of 5 teams were way over represented last year compared to past seasons. Six out of the top 20 and three (plus BYU) in the top 10. Maybe last year was a real banner year for those conferences but seems suspicious it was the one year most of those schools barely played out of conference. Not sure if the S&P over represents them in the same way or not. Funny that a&m is behind us and two other Big12 teams though.
  21. Yeah it's not non-conference schedule we can sleepwalk through to go 3-0 (see aggie, but 4-0) but we should absolutely start conference play undefeated. ULL is getting way too much credit. 5 of their 10 wins were one possession games. They needed overtime to beat Georgia State, this isn't some group of 5 powerhouse. They run a pretty uncomplicated offense predicated on running the ball that won't be scary or catch us off guard to start the season. They are a solid experienced team that we have to take seriously but should handle comfortably. Arkansas is a little more worrisome to me because it's a tough environment, they have some talent, and Briles PTSD but like people said above that was a 3 win team.
  22. I love her, but yeah those were a bit grating. Everyone’s (except Tom) over the top responses like it was the funniest thing they had ever seen really drove home how easy life must be when you are incredibly attractive.
  23. Nah, he's right. The only reason to pursue a hyper-athletic 4 star athlete from North Shore that has 5 years to play 4 is "depth concerns".
