  1. So if Dele had been offered by USC but decided he wants to return to Texas he's no longer a quitter and should be welcomed back into the program. You really don't see how that is stupid? The only important factor is whether or not he's good enough to contribute to Texas on the field, like I said.
  2. You're going to have to walk me through the difference I guess. Ovie enters the transfer portal and transfers to Texas so he's not a quitter, Texas should be happy to have him and he's disappointing loss for ND. Had Ovie entered the transfer portal, decides not to transfer and wants to continue to play for ND, Notre Dame should tell him to kick rocks. He is a quitter.
  3. I hope you aren't conflicted about cheering for Ray Thornton, Ovie Oghoufo, and Darrian Dunn this season. Hell, Brendon Schooler has transferred from more than 1 school, he's a serial quitter I guess. I don't care to have Adeoye back mainly because I don't think he's good enough to play at Texas. The quit on the team thing is silly.
  4. The lull is due to a lot of factors and things could feel completely different two months from now once the staff has a chance connect with players in person. Part of having a reputation as a great recruiter is blowing prospects away on these visits. I'm not sure you can attribute much to the staff disappointing or Sark not being a splashy enough hire. Not yet anyway. I think this was discussed a while ago but you can't underestimate that Sarkisian is walking in to a tougher situation than Herman was on the recruiting front. A&M is coming off one of the best seasons and their history and their hype rollercoaster is firmly ticking up where Herman had the lame duck portion of Sumlin and Fisher's transition to recruit against. At OU Lincoln had some hype but was unproven as a HC where now he has a few heismen trophy winners, number one overall picks, playoff appearances and all the Big12 titles. All while OSU and Alabama have increased their TX foothold. Factor in that now Texas is even further removed from being in title contention and has another failed coaching hire for schools to negatively recruit. The state is bloodbath for recruiting top guys right now. None of that to say that Sark can't and shouldn't recruit really well this year, but the context is just different than when Herman had a top 3 class. It really magnifies Tom's failure even more because he had a real opportunity that he fucked up. Sarkisian and crew may have to be twice as good at recruiting to end up with the same results.
  5. I mean, you’ve gone from “we’re fucked” to “we’re fucked”. So at least personally for you the whiplash is manageable.
  6. For real, KP was a ghost tonight and I’m underwhelmed by him in general but the thread needs to step back from the ledge a bit. Up 2-1 and the series is still ours for the taking. Maybe slow down on blowing the whole thing up for Jokic pipe dreams until we are at least facing an elimination game?
  7. Hmm, would be cool if it was a new Texas commitment but I bet he’s announcing playing football at some private school. Hopefully not IMG.
  8. The way I look at the Arkansas game is, if you have it circled as a possible loss, I think the only way you got there is because you think Sark wasn't a good hire. And that is a perfectly defensible position (even though not one I agree with). Trying to temper expectations by playing up how perfectly average they are, our learning curve in picking new schemes, breaking in a new qb, or whatever else are just excuses. An Arkansas loss would be a major red flag for Sark's future success here and any justifications made after the fact would just feel like Maryland (2x) all over again.
  9. I confused you in my original post by fucking up and saying Arkansas would only be higher than Tech and Baylor. They would only be higher than Tech and Kansas, Baylor scored better last year in the S&P+. So 9/11. I agree the 2020 models will be flawed but it's fine to get a general idea of the relative strength of teams. Arkansas was a below average team last year no matter how you look at them unless that "SEC" patch just scares you to death.
  10. Yep, noticed that mistake and edited. If you are 9th out of 11 it puts you at around the bottom 20% percentile or so (not a math major). Just how wide is your middle of the road?
  11. It's reasonable to project them to get better this year, but they would have been a lower tier Big XII team just like they were lower tier SEC. https://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/ncaa/fplus/2020 72nd overall in S&P+, would be good for 9th in the Big XII, only better than Tech and Kansas.
  12. Being in the SEC East gives him fewer opportunities to lose to Alabama though. Advantage aggy.
  13. Fair enough, I don’t know shit about Cena. I just didn’t read what he said as an purposeful attempt to make a political statement. You seem more familiar with him, so what was your read on the initial quote? Has he previously been pro-Taiwan and was he subtly giving his support to their sovereignty? If he has been so keen to expand the wwe market to China that doesn’t really square with him being an activist that makes a point of being critical of the PRC.
  14. Damn, I agree it's embarrassing the extent that Hollywood (and other American industries) bow down to China for money but I feel a little bad for Cena here. I didn't get from his statement that he has any deep opinion on Taiwanese independence at all, I think he just got confused, put his foot in his mouth, and happened to hit on a third rail issue for China. One that could cost the movie he was promoting millions. Maybe he is whoring out his beliefs in a free and independent Taiwan by stumbling over himself to apologize but mostly I get the feeling he's just trying to fix a really unlucky mistake that he made, mostly out of ignorance to the situation.
  15. Woke up still so hyped about last night, what a fun game. Now just reading everything I can get my hands on, here is Cato from the Athletic for those who don't have a sub to the Athletic: Specifically I thought this was a good point: They are asking so much from Kawhi right now, there is no way he can go long stretches working against Luka on defense and still carry the load they need from him on offense. He's struggled to play huge minutes and has needed load management the last few years anyway. He seemed noticeably less effective in the 4Q last night
  16. Plus if a black person committed drug offense in the Philippines, he would just be executed! American is a relative utopia!
  17. I disagree with your response because a thread about teaching CRT in schools, when the R alternative seems to be to gloss over our history with race and its impact in favor of a “patriotic education” curriculum, bringing up the fact that Norway may not allow the same number of POC to immigrate there now isn’t a relevant or good argument. In fact it’s pretty dumb and beside the point. I really don’t care about if we are a good or great country relative to other countries. Some things are wrong no matter if other people also do the the wrong thing worse. Yeah, if you’re not in to the whole brevity thing.
  18. I guess we can talk about that if you want to but that has fuck-all to do with what you called a strawman or my response. Mind closing the loop on what was actually being discussed or are you content just slinging shit against the wall in every direction?
  19. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/09/17/us/politics/trump-patriotic-education.html It's not a straw man at all but he probably shouldn't have said "radical" Republicans. Just Republicans works fine.
  20. I can accept that under all the schtick he's a good person who makes a positive impact...but for real? Not getting any pings on the douche meter here at all?
  21. "Yeah grandpa, I did get those email forwards you sent. Sorry I didn't get a chance to respond, I saw them. Good stuff. Really funny."
  22. Not that Herman’s offense would be successful the the NFL (it would be a train-wreck), but this isn’t really true. Lamar Jackson and Cam Newton have both been their teams primary rushing threat for most of their careers. And they have both won MVPs.
