  1. George Devore side hugged, kissed my then girlfriend now wife on the cheek at Antone’s in 2001...thought she was somebody else. I’ve always hated that guy.

I moved here in 99. Lotsa Vallejo and Scab shows while I explored town.

I don’t like them but was surprised nobody mentioned Blue October. Then Wiki told me they’re from Houston. Gotdamn they were here a lot for a while.

yeah that's probably because the post was made around 10 pm. and yes, you are incredibly stupid if you bitch about a guy simply because you don't like his movies despite the fact that he's not making movies for you in the first place. like if i hate musical theater then i'm going to completely ignore the genre and it's comings and goings; i'm not going to sit around constantly bitching about Andrew Lloyd Webber and how he won't stop making musicals.

This whole premise is flawed. Adam Sandler has shown the ability to make funny movies. I even liked some of his attempts at being more serious (I thought Reign Over Me was pretty good). Fans of Sandler can reasonably complain that he’s mostly stopped trying, so he can cash chicks and film with his buddies in Hawaii. We’re not talking about Rob Schneider here that just can’t carry a decent movie. Sandler can, he just doesn’t.

That and it seems that he and Drew Barrymore should have really just hooked up in real life and took a go at it. You can't deny their chemistry and they are obviously special to one another when you hear them talk about each other outside of movies (like on Letterman or something). I'm probably the only guy on this site that liked 50 First Dates though, so yea...

Make it two, I liked 50 First Dates, too.

I once sat through a McConaughey and Kate Hudson movie to get laid.

    You got off easy, sir.

    Maybe twice.

I took two different girls to see Titanic in the theater. Worked both times.

    Thanks, Leo.

Any recs for central metroplex?  Live in flower mound and hard 8 has been the best I've found.  Very inconsistent brisket. From pretty damn good to over smoked and dry.

I’m in Frisco for kid’s baseball, and the team ordered a bunch of meat from Hard 8 last night. Some of the brisket was pretty dry but there was one chunk of it that’d I’d call pretty good. Consistency varied a lot just on the amount of brisket we ordered. The ribs and jalapeño sausage were both very good.

Graded on the serves all day curve (we ate around 7), I was overall pretty pleased with it.

Three career onlys for me that day that I never equaled before or after...round at 4 under, round at 68 (on any par), and bogey free round.

Shot my 2nd career 68 at Great Hills on Tuesday.  5 birdies and 2 bogies (par 71), I haven't been playing much or practicing at all...but I hit the center of a lot of greens, two putted for birdie twice, and made a couple.

  7. You can do select/travel baseball sensibly, it's just that you have to be careful that you're putting your kid in the right situation...because lots of teams don't do it sensibly.  My son plays 9U Majors (so as serious as 9U baseball gets) and he still has 4 months of the year where he doesn't throw a baseball at all.  He plays flag football and both winter and summer basketball.

Now, the flip side is, we've had 4 different pitchers throw 85+ pitches against us, and I've lost track of the number of kids that have thrown curve balls...which should both be considered child abuse at this age.

its summer 2003, I live in Kansas City, I play at the boats, which at the time, were NOT 24-7 casinos, they were only open 24 hours on Friday and Saturday.  In addition there was a state law in place that tried to limit how much folks could lose in one session.  You were only allowed to buy up to $500 in chips every 2 hours. It reset every 2 hours on the hour.

That max chip purchase dynamic really impacted the size of the poker games because unless you really planned (visited the casino 5 times in a week and just bought chips and didnt gamble, or hung out at the damn casino for at least 10 hours), you couldnt have a large stack to play at the start.  So there were only 2 no-limit games playing, either $1/2 or $2/5 and the 2/5 wouldnt start until 7 or later on Fri.

Hmmm, I never thought about that.  I played a good deal of poker at the boats in college, would just have a beer and wait for "boarding" if I got there early, but no limit wasn't popular yet...so it was all limit games.  It never occurred to me that the chip buying limits would impact NL game size, but it makes sense.

  9. Yeah, the idea that Self would be a good candidate for a rebuild and the RC Buford relationship is what has always made the Spurs seem like a good fit if/when their window closes and Pop hangs it up, even though they've some kept it perpetually open for the better part of 20 years.

Kent Black's in San Marco's has great sides and I'll leave it at that.

Blacks opened today in New Braunfels in the old Rudy's location.

That picture makes me want a jalapeño and banana pudding.

I enjoyed it.  Cusack was pretty funny.

Dick was really cast well also.  Such an awkward guy.

He was a little douchier than I'd hoped for at the Q&A, left the moderator hanging a few times.  But he was pretty funny.

  12. I still love it. Taught my daughter when she was 10, and refreshed my wife who now keeps the book for my son’s games.

Very little in life beats a summer evening, a cold beer, a top of the first, and a clean scorebook to fill in.

  13. It might be worth metioning that there is no distinction here between public and private communication on Snapchat in this situation. The psycho gets notified of who took screenshots in either situation. So your retaliation risk should be appropriately evaluated even if you only disclose information from his (public) story.

  14. I've had lots and lots of sports bets over the years that came down to the very end (the point spread is efficient and all), but two large-ish bets stick out in my head; one win and one loss both on pretty rare plays with under a minute left.  I was laying 2.5 with the Colorado Buffaloes a few years back, they score a touchdown to take a two point lead...aaaaaand miss the extra point.  I was fading the Cowboys on (I'm pretty sure) Monday Night Football and late in a game that my bet was rarely live the Cowboys are covering by a point facing 4th down inside their own 5.  Snapped it out of the end zone on purpose to take the safety / free kick / field position instead of risking a punt.  Easy winner.

  15. I flew to Vegas just to bet Mayweather against McGregor. Had to figure out the process for wiring money to the cage, etc. My biggest bet on a sporting event by a lot.

I considered it more investment than gamble, but with that much money in play I was a nervous wreck all day.

@luke duke serious question.  I know you have a bad ass pit that you built.  And I admire that.  And, I think you've been successful at BBQ cook-offs and whatnot.

If you're grilling chicken breasts or burgers on a random Tuesday night do you cook on a gas grill or charcoal?

Maybe I just suck at gas grills.  I'm not above admitting that's a distinct possibility.

If you've never owned one, it's not surprising you have a negative opinion, I suppose...but gas grills are roughly as hard to regulate temperature in as an oven.

I personally cook chicken breasts and (usually) burgers on gas.  Steak, bone-in pork, and wings goes on the BGE.  Some stuff that's slightly better on charcoal still gets the gas treatment if we're grilling late for whatever reason, the convenience of the gas grill being 700* in 4 minutes is hard to overcome.
