  1. Yes - both the “4 Days in…” and “Denver” threads. They were mostly food-focused, and I wonder how many of those recs are still valid post-Covid. Mainly I’m interested in stuff to do that the kid would like.
  2. We’re in Denver for the weekend with our son for his 13th bday. He’s into creative stuff - not as big a sports fan. We’re already hitting up Meow Wolf and Denver Central Market downtown today. What else should we not miss? Any restaurant recs that aren’t chains? We are staying right off I-70 near Stapleton area.
  3. That was me for the first 1.5 years I was back on the bike after a long layoff (a 1997 GT RTS-3). It was *technically* full suspension, but with weird geometry and a suspect gearset that tended to crap out in the middle of climbs. It got me back into the sport after COVID hit, though, and we had some great rides until I finally replaced it with a modern bike last fall. Either way, that's awesome you're riding, and feel free to share your rides here!
  4. Compelling (and disturbing) reporting here. It's mystifying to me that a rando Twitter user has been able to influence public talking points (and even legislation) to this degree simply by being consistently hateful and never letting up on the outrage p0rn. And for all those crying that this is "doxxing," it's all publicly available information. https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2022/04/19/libs-of-tiktok-right-wing-media/
  5. Gotta say, I loved the absurdity of Greggo Luka on the Musers this morning.
  6. I was a Sundance regular when I was in FW in the late 90s/early 00s. I know Sasha is Ed's relatively-new wife - what specifically changed to make her to blame for all this?
  7. For sure. Even getting to the trailhead was a bit of a slog from the campground, but once up on the trails it was glorious. I just worry about the drought - everything was so dry. On Saturday afternoon, a brush fire broke out a few miles east of where we were, and while I was out on an errand I saw tons of fire personnel rushing down 29 in that direction.
  8. Took a huge group of Scouts down to the Hill Country this past weekend to go spelunking (at Longhorn Caverns) and hiking. We camped at Reveille Peak Ranch, so while the rest of the group went to the caverns in the afternoon, I stayed behind with another dad and hit the trails. We had tried riding a little with some scouts that morning, but there was a triathlon going on and they were occupying most of the trails so we just rode on the jeep doubletracks for a couple miles, then headed back. For our (hot) afternoon ride we did the full beginner loop - which for a flatlander Dallasite like me felt anything but beginner. It was great, though, and I'm really looking forward to going back and spending more time there (and hitting up Spider Mountain too, since it's 10min away).
  9. What the hell, man.
  10. Heh, missed that one. No joke is ever truly original, I guess...
  11. It really is. There's a well-known song about the beauty of the principal waterway in the region... Crimea River. (ducks)

  13. Apologies if already posted - but this thread, wow. “It only takes one of them to get lucky and everyone goes home with a bonus."
  14. Pretty shocked (guess I shouldn't be) that Tim O'Hare trounced Betsy Price in the R primary for Tarrant County judge. O'Hare is toxic - he pushed a lot of anti-Hispanic measures as mayor of Farmers Branch, and when he ultimately failed there he moved to Southlake and reinvented himself as founder of the PAC that caused all the issues for Carroll ISD there (well documented in the 'Southlake' podcast). He sent out mailers touting his support of Trump and painting Price as a flaming liberal (which is far from the truth) - and it clearly worked. Given his support in Colleyville/Southlake/etc I doubt his D challenger will be able to beat him despite her support in Fort Worth.
  15. I love my Marin a little bit more now.
  16. “It scares you to death.”
  17. More on the disqualification thing. https://www.politico.com/news/2022/02/23/north-carolina-cawthorn-constitution-insurrectionists-00010944
  18. Disregard - found this - guess this means I need to shell out for a 6 or higher.
  19. @wd40 - apologies if you’ve already answered this upthread, but what camera/gear do you use for your ride videos? They look fantastic. A friend gave me a GoPro Hero4 and chest mount, so I tried recording a ride with it and it doesn’t look good - the lack of image stabilization is the biggest issue but the overall quality isn’t up to what I want (even set at 1080p).
  20. Thanks, I stand corrected. The title of that list was a little misleading.
  21. It’s telling that TCU has the same # of conf championships as Baylor - and has been in the conference 1/3 as long. And then there’s Tech…
  22. Ran out of time to ride yesterday, and feeling pretty puny today so I doubt I'll get a ride in before the cold front tonight, which sucks. Also, I heard that a bunch of the trails at BC not officially owned/maintained by the church are on land now slated for development. I guess that's a fairly open secret among local MTB circles, but still - best go ride out there and get the full experience while you can. I'm incredibly bummed.
  23. Followup for anyone who cares: Bike Mart covered another new chain and repairs this morning - they said it seems like a freak occurrence that the new chain failed so quickly, so they checked it out thoroughly. The front crankset is a little worn but still in decent shape, and the rear cassette is fine. I'd love to upgrade to a 1x SRAM but that has to hold off for a while.
  24. Not sure. BM replaced it and tightened it up for a good fit, so I need to find out what’s going on. This is a good reminder that I need to really familiarize myself with basic maintenance stuff, and carry a tube, chain tool, etc. I’m pretty low-info beyond basic adjustments and tire air.
