  1. If you told me that 26% of Texans, with a vehicle payment, have a payment over $1,000, I could believe it. I don't believe it's 26% overall.
  2. On the earlier comment today stating that trump was a master of the court system, he only is when his opponent is weak. As when trump refused to pay vendors. In those cases, trump would counter sue because he knew he was the larger shark. There isn’t anything larger than the DOJ. the biggest hurdle for the DOJ is finding an impartial jury. Only takes 1 quiet Trump supporter to find him not guilty regardless of the evidence.
  3. I heard this argument from Chris Christie and there is some sense in it. Christie surmised that any DOJ deal would include a provision that Trump was out of politics and there was the ability to enforce that provision. Christie added that any guilty verdict would include prison time and how he has personally heard Trump say that he couldn't survive prison. Christie referenced a discussion that he had with Trump in the mid 2000s when a former President of the NJ Senate was federally sentenced to prison for a couple of years. At that time, Trump asked Christie what was really going to happen to the guy, and Trump was shocked when Christie informed him that the guy was going to prison even with a plea. Trump told Christie he couldn't handle prison. Trump may be risking the following: acquittal of all charges. Biden winning in 2024 and Trump ending up in prison. Trump winning in 2024, pardoning himself, and SCOTUS rejecting that pardon. Trump going to prison on Jan 20, 2029. SCOTUS inexplicably saying that a President can pardon themselves, effectively putting them above the law.
  4. We're 40+ years into Reaganomics and we've yet to prove that tax savings for the rich has led to better paying jobs for the rest or increase tax revenue, as promised.
  5. sounds like some of their are getting to experience how life is like in North Korea. but seriously I hope everyone is being taken care of.
  6. and the blonde removed 2 people on the block, one white and one black. It's a stretch to accuse her of racism.
  7. PSA: I've long looked at TireRack.com for reviews on tires. Can 10,000 positives reviews be wrong?
  8. Harris County has long held to the idea that they never promised to ever end the tolls once the roads were paid for. Is it possible that a politician said it, or someone printed it on a election mailer? Possibly but who's naive to believe those comms?
  9. We need more tolls not less. The toll lanes on the mixed cost "freeways" are the best invention possible.
  10. Videos don't allow instigators to easily hide like they once could. I get wanting to beat on the assailants that beat down one guy but it's a good way to end up in jail with them.
  11. the protective order would prevent Trump or his lawyers from taking information that prosecutors are required to disclose to them, and then making that info public. Trump will want to spin that information and present his case in the public. All witnesses will be named by trump. After what Trump and his lawyers have done over the last week, I don't see how a gag order isn't dropped on them. Trump is going after the potential jury pool to confuse them before the case even remotely gets to trial.
  12. There are no consensus definitions for well-to-do, rich or wealthy. someone making 40K thinks someone making 125K is rich, and that 125K person in no way thinks they're rich. I guarantee there are people earning over 500K with a 10m net worth, on paper, do not consider themselves wealthy because they know someone that has 20m in liquid assets.
  13. We're all going to hear acquaintances or family members say how Trump is being persecuted for free speech. It's important to educate them on the truth. You won't convince them but there are usually others around that need to hear the truth. It's not that Trump lied about the election it's that he attempted to get the DOJ to lie to the states about election irregularities, he convinced electors to illegally declare they were the official electors and that he pressured Pence to break the law. The good news is that he ultimately failed in 2 of these 3 BUT that being a horrible criminal doesn't make you less of a criminal.
  14. I'm afraid of that as well. The only suspense that I see is how long she can keep her son around. He doesn't seem that smart. Now it makes no sense why any of them would keep Cirie around.
  15. Every accusation is a confession. Look at how MAGAts jump on the "Biden crime family" when the only evidence is that Hunter Biden used his dad's name to make millions. In the meantime, Trump required everyone visiting him in DC to stay at his hotel, and the govt started using Trump hotels around the world. And who knows how much Trump has previously and continues to charge the secret service to stay at his hotels while protecting him. If Biden owned a hotel that housed 1 govt employee, Cruz would be calling for a special counsel to be appointed.
  16. I don’t see how Miles is going to improve anything and perhaps make it worse, but it’s also true that the old way was failing many children in Houston.
  17. Confession: I’ve been buying tires for decades and I’ve long wondered if the differences between tires is not much more than marketing. The salespeople or websites love to show you the tread pattern. I don’t have a PhD is tread patterns. I can understand you may need a different tire in Phoenix as opposed to Seattle due to weather but most of us fall in the middle. im in Houston so I need a tire that can handle freeways driving between 1-100 mph. Dry, hot condition or hurricanes. Brand new roads or pot holes that rattle the frame. What you got for me? I also have noticed that manufacturers constantly eliminate top selling tires. You buy a new car with whatever tire brand/model. You’re satisfied with that tire but you can never find that exact tire 4 years later. Disclaimer the sample size on my theory is 5 cars. im comfortable working (attempting) to fix many things under the hood but tires are a mystery to me.
  18. Leon Black also settled/paid-off the US Virgin Islands $65m to avoid any legal claims that he would face in the USVI. The story isn’t clear if that would also cover any criminal activity directly related to Black. https://www.cnn.com/2023/08/04/business/leon-black-settles-virgin-islands-jeffrey-epstein-claims/index.html Black’s attorney keeps repeating that the settlement in no way indicates that his client was guilty or aware of any of Epstein’s conduct. Important to note that apparently the settlement and USVI doesn’t explicitly agree with the attorney’s statement.
  19. Some are arguing for the sake of arguing. Yes, there is evidence that some sold out theaters are fairly empty but we know many people have also seen this movie. Both can be true. And yes some theaters may show 10 minutes of previews and others 20. I do think that 30 minutes of previews AFTER the stated start time is stretching the truth. if you’re in a theater that is showing you 30 minutes of previews before a 90 minute movie, you should walk out.
  20. For a while I found that yotta routinely returned a higher percentage even given the lottery variability. Especially when they allowed pooling/sharing prizes. With that move, the variability dropped and I earned a higher percentage than with other HYSA. Then interest rates with other banks went up, Yottas games didn’t seem to match the increases. And while I don’t blame them for being unable to pay more than other banks, I prefer to keep my savings elsewhere.
  21. HYSAs are great for emergency funds and short terms savings. I also want to work my savings balance up to ~3 years of expenses in the run up to my retirement. This allows you to 1) earn a decent amount in annual interest, 2) prevent any retirement plan withdrawals in down years especially in the extremely important initial years.
  22. It’s not hard to find stories of people earning north of 500k and they relatively save/invest very little. They’re not wanting and they can cover almost any emergency if only due to their 100k of credit card available credit. I don’t think they’re asking anyone to feel sorry for them but there is a good chance they run in circles where they’re the middle class family. Their kids are the poor kids since they fly economy plus when traveling instead of first or private.
  23. Going outside early (6:30) and it feels good that it’s only 84. I hear you. I’m not on my last summer but they’re numbered for me.
  24. Perhaps someone should just suggest to Thomas that he might have an easier time reporting what he actually bought with his own money. Perhaps groceries would be the extent of said list.
  25. To each their own but I was distracted by the soundtrack shaking the theater. I understand that at some points you want to emphasize a point with loud music or sounds but it was overkill. Oppenheimer was a drama not a marvel movie.
