  1. I posted about Styx "Kilroy Was Here" because it is the worst concept album ever recorded (which is consistent with the thread title).
  2. Have you tried freezing them?
  3. I completely disagree that "kids these days aren’t even interested in listening to an adult", broad brush. Maybe elite D1 athletes, I have no experience there, but I helped teach HS kids both in band and soccer and felt like they were for the most part engaged and willing to learn. It's the oldest old man perspective in the book . . . "kids these days". Eh.
  4. Rice recipe? I struggle with that one.
  5. You're a remarkably ugly human being.
  6. *Taylor Hawkins had a groove that neither Freese nor Grohl have. That's why I preferred Hawkins to both. Frankly, I think Freese is a mismatch, just a little too punk for that band. I've seen him play a bunch (Westerberg, The Replacements, etc.) and I love him in the right situation, but I don't think he's right for the Foos. (I was at that ACL Fest show, weekend 1.) I don't "get" Alex Van Halen at all. For one thing, his drums sound like shit. He plays OK, but it's not my cup of tea.
  7. Eh, he's had it in Atlanta, Washington state, South Bend IN, Tulsa. Doesn't always have to be in Texas.
  8. No, it's stressful for the people who encounter the circles when those daydreamers are plowing through without any regard for the actual law.
  9. LMAO. OK, I'm just going thru the ones that suck ass (my street and 51st, and yes I know your data on the latter).
  10. We have a traffic circle at the end of our street. It's a "T" intersection. Previously, there was a stop sign on the leg that was perpendicular to the other two. Now, it's a traffic circle with 3 yield signs. To say that Austin drivers have no fucking idea how to navigate a 3-legged traffic circle with 3 yield signs would be understating things. Most drivers on the two legs that are parallel to each other (and perpendicular to the third) seem to think they have the right of way. It's maddening. Long story short: Austinites don't tend to be very astute when it comes to traffic control measures, especially traffic circles.
  11. Flat B-strings are the worst. Well, second worst, behind flat girlfriends. Dammit.
  12. . . . and there it is. Classic "couldn't be bothered" trollish behavior. Fuck you, pussy.
  13. Yeah, that's a doozy. Architect: "I don't want to design prisons! You can't make me design prisons!" Everyone: Uh, correct?
  14. I thought mail-in voting was fraught with fraud?
  15. At this point I could write every concluding paragraph for you. $5 a pop if you want to save a little time. Hit my DMs.
  16. Well, Mitchell hit double digits in 17 games out of 34 this year, so he's already at the upper end of your range. I'd be surprised if he doesn't continue to improve at least a marginal amount. People are underrating him because they don't see an NBA starter.
  17. Yeah, I had a kit that I bought on the cheap for recording, and when she was 7-ish I heard her in my music room bashing away. She had really steady tempo. (She had done dance for years already, but there was still a natural component.) I asked her if she'd like to take drum lessons, she was all for it, so I found a guy with a master's in percussion and he taught her from the ground up . . . first the rudiments on snare, then basic rock kit styles, onward and upward. He was a HUGE factor in her progression. To this day when you watch her on stage she has outstanding, efficient technique. Ultimately she had an offer to study marimba at UT but chose psychology instead. To your story, she also is self-taught on guitar, piano, ukelele, and writes really good, sophisticated songs, in a Fiona Apple vein. The first I heard was her at maybe age 10, in our master bath shower, writing her first song on her ukelele. I was dumbfounded. It was really strong, especially for that age. Great hook, meaningful lyrics. I wasn't about to kick her out. You gotta let them find their way.

    SXSW 2024

Can't remember if posted . . . don't care . . . you can really get the feeling Britt appreciates Westerberg's writing on the second tune here ("Alex Chilton"):
  19. Sometimes that works out.
  20. Damn, man, I gotta say I admire your attitude. I hope I'm in a similar mindset when it's my turn. Extra credit for the nurse "getting the yips". Bernhard says "hey".
  21. I can only assume it would days if not weeks of prep to purge my colon of all the enchiladas. Dang.
  22. Unfortunately, I got nothing. My daughter and son both CAPed into UT-Austin and are thriving, but they are completely different animals, one an academic and one not. I have no idea how my son got in. I'm not asking questions. Any port in a storm.
