  1. That's my point. They are in full focusness mode going into that K-State game. Meanwhile we get double the prep time and rest. I like our chances.

    NBA 2021-2022

Not sure why everyone is hating on Sacramento's side of the trade. They get Sabonis who is an all-star big who can average 20+ and 12 and throw in 5 assists for good measure (with good efficiency). He is still only 25 and has his best years in front of him. Haliburton is good, but their roster with him, Fox and Hield (overrated IMO) had some redundancy. It's possible that Haliburton never becomes as good as Sabonis is RIGHT NOW. Sacramento would sure be looking better right now if they had drafted Doncic, SGA or one of the Bridges instead of Bagley. Oof. Terrible.
  3. One great benefit of yesterday's KU game being on Monday is that we have an extra two days to get ready for Baylor. Baylor meanwhile has to travel to K-State and can get their ass upset if they look ahead. Those extra two days to watch film, game plan, recover and practice could be huge this time of year.
  4. Timmy Allen had a great game today. He definitely rose to the occasion. Like I said, he could be a special player - and today he was. The environment at Tech definitely got to him and I stand by that though. Maybe it was just a couple of bad games. Or maybe he grew from it. Regardless I like what I’ve been seeing. I still think Tre Mitchell is getting too many shots and minutes.
  5. I gave Timmy Allen grief because he looked like ass against Tech. But the last two games he has brought it. Great great game tonight. I stand corrected. The MVP for me though was Christian Bishop. He was looking to take over all game. Very active on the glass. Great energy and confidence. 10 boards! And some really important free throws. Every game he is looking better. Tre Mitchell is still on my shit list however. Clanged 3 after clanged 3. He is so skilled in the paint but my goodness, kick the ball around on the perimeter homie! Beard keeps shrinking the roster. Askew, Disu and Febres got fewer minutes. Cunningham also had a light night. Love that Beard will play the hot hand.
  6. I don't think there is a chasm between Texas and Baylor, Kansas and Tech when we are playing well. We just beat ISU by 22. That same ISU team beat Tech by 4, only lost by 1 at KU and by 5 to Baylor. And in the Texas vs. Tech game, the most hostile environment possible, we were a made 3 from the game getting very interesting in the last 10 min. And that was coming off a very emotional game just a couple of days prior against Tennessee. When we play them again, it could look a lot different.
  7. To me, the difference was getting Bishop plenty of minutes. He is improving every single game. He plays confident defense and goes aggressively after boards. He brings toughness and athleticism. He actually dunked! He also turns it over less and shoots a higher percentage than Tre Mitchell and Dylan Disu. The team also plays better when Brock gets minutes. He just does a lot of little things that make us better. Extra tap-out offensive possessions. Extra passes leading to 3s. Drawn charges. For the first 6 conference games we were 3-3 against a weaker slate and he was averaging 8.7 mpg. Over the last 5 games he is averaging 16.8 min and we are 4-1. He has also really upped his rebounding and steals and almost never turns it over. In my opinion, their minutes need to come from Mitchell. While he has a more skilled offensive game, he simply turns it over too much and makes too many bad decisions. Since the last ISU game, he is averaging almost 3 turnovers per game. He turned it over more TODAY than Cunningham has turned it over in his last 13 GAMES COMBINED. A team like ours has to have offensive efficiency and Mitchell kills it. I think he may turn into a great player with another year in the system, but I don't think he gives us the best shot this year. Come March, for the bug guys, I would be targeting 30 min for Bishop, 20 for Cunningham and then 20 split between Mitchell and Disu with Timmy Allen getting 10 at the 4 when we go small.
  8. Well looks like Beard generally agreed with me. Starting Carr, Ramey, Allen, Cunningham, Bishop. While I like Askew I can’t disagree with starting Allen. Main thing is getting Cunningham and Bishop on the court.
  9. Timmy also missed CRITICAL free throws against K-State that would have won us the game. Just sayin. (And I agree that for most of the season he has been our best player).
  10. I think the Tech game was great in that it was a litmus test for who is ready to ball out in March and who isn't. Guys who weren't afraid: Carr, Ramey, Askew, Bishop and Cunningham Guys who weren't ready: Mitchell, Allen, Disu I'm fine to ride or die with that first group. Cunningham and Askew keep the ball moving. Carr can isolate, attack off the dribble and create his own shot. Bishop and Cunningham attack the glass. Everyone plays D. And Ramey (and sometimes Carr) can hit the 3. Sure they are a little undersized but THEY DON'T GIVE A F. These are my guys. I'm ok to give Allen another chance because he could be a special player. But he is going to have to earn back the trust. Mitchell is going to have to have some dominant games before I'm ready to trust him. His last effort was horrid. I'm going to just assume Disu is hurt.
  11. The last thing I will say on the topic (at least for now, lol) is that Chris Beard's exceptional ability to market and engage fans is partly to blame for the betrayal that Tech fans feel. He is the best I have ever seen at generating fan involvement, particularly with the students. He is also great at working alumni and donors (and extracting money for building improvements and such). When he spends years selling everyone HARD on a long-term vision for the program, it feels worse when he bolts. To them, it feels like all of the rah rah marketing was basically fake and he never really cared about the program at all.
  12. Dumb analogy. A coach leaving for his alma mater is exactly like a wife fucking her brother-in-law. Closer analogy would be the CEO of a company spends 15 years building the company, takes it public and increases earnings by 10x... and then leaves to go to a competitor, where he happened to start his career. In such a case the guy wouldn't be welcomed with open arms, but there would be some appreciation that he made everybody rich.
  13. Don't be daft. Nobody misses Shaka because he was effectively fired for performance. Your wording above is... odd. If fans appreciated him and his contribution, they wouldn't be chanting "F Chris Beard". I'm not saying he should be welcomed back with open arms. But he also shouldn't be treated with the degree of venom I have seen from Tech fans. Maybe he will after this season. We will see. In the end Tech fans aren't mad because he "quit". If he had gone to the NBA or had retired, he would still be loved. He would probably even be cheered if he went somewhere like Kentucky or UNC. The fact that he went to UT is what burns everyone up. Whatever.
  14. 15 years is a long time to dedicate to an organization. And Tech would absolutely 100% not be where they currently are without him. Not to mention the memories of a Title game and Elite 8. Regardless of how they perceive that he left, if they can't appreciate his positive contributions to their school then they should just fuck off.
  15. My biggest takeaway from last night is that we should have signed Bryson Williams instead of Dylan Disu. As I recall, he wanted to come here. I think Disu might eventually end up being the better player, but Williams fits into Beard's style MUCH better. Swap those two players last night and I think we might would have won. Beard is in danger of falling into the classic trap of recruiting players that don't fit his style and system. It is one of the reason why coaches go to big programs and then can't replicate their earlier success. It is very hard to turn down a 5* player for a 3* player who you can coach and develop for 4 years.
  16. Could Baylor or Kansas win the title this year? Well Tech beat both of them. And ISU and OSU and Tennessee. They could easily make a Sweet 16 or beyond. So could we for that matter.

  18. I think it is generally accepted that Texas fans are some of the worst losers you will find. But... Texas Tech has to be up there with the worst winners in all of sports. Usually I sit back and enjoy it because it is directed at other schools. E.g. Gap kid leading the charge into the Aggy student section. I'm not really worried if Tech loses tomorrow. If so, they will wimper out of the stadium like a beaten dog. But if Tech happens to win, I shudder to think of what they will do At a minimum they will storm the court. Maybe even tear down their own backboards. One thing is for sure, I wouldn't wear orange to that game. I would love to be there though.
  19. We really miss Coleman BTW. He had way better chemistry with Ramey and Jones in my opinion. He also was a competitive mofo.
  20. Beard calling timeout before Allen’s 2nd free throw probably won us the game. No way he makes it if he didn’t step away and calm down.
  21. Regarding our roster, my main objective would be taking the ball out of Carr’s hands. He just LOVES to dribble the life out of it. Reminds me a little bit of Chris Paul in that regard (but obviously not as good). Let him run around off some screens as a shooting guard / gunner and let Allen initiate the offense. Then have either Ramey or Jones as a guard on the other side. I like that Ramey has the confidence to shake off Carr when he is up top demanding the ball. Ramey is better at keeping it moving (which is shocking to hear myself say given my feelings about Ramey last year).
