  1. Yeah, I had Friday/Saturday tickets but we decided to bail. This week’s shit show just did us in and then the schedule change made it all less attractive. Given the lack of practice for the team I’m with Dustin - just cancel this thing. I don’t want our guys, especially the pitchers, getting hurt. I’m bitterly disappointed- was really looking forward to this weekend. Pretty much made the last couple months bearable. Fuck.

  2. Already booked a house in Fayettenam for that weekend. We’ll have 8-10 folks there. Taking father in law who was born and raised in Arkansas so should be a fun time. He’ll be the only one in our group cheering for the Hogs.

  3. Saw Black Joe Lewis at Empire Control Room downtown last night. Fun time. They have spaced out tables and table service which you order from an app. Worked great and it sure was nice to get out and see a real concert. Felt quite Covid safe.

I will disagree with you here hoss, I’d wager that a continuing slide in active religious practice is driving more people to conspiracy theories and not religion driving them to conspiracies.

It is not going to be a popular truth around here, but nevertheless— active participation in organized religion in the U tied States strongly tied with all sorts of positive social outcomes from marital stability, overall contentment, fiscal responsibility, friendships, to social stability. It’s also been strongly associated with a lower level of belief in the paranormal, alien visitations, psychics, and other fringe beliefs. Note— this is for actual practice in organized religion, not people who simply claim an affiliation.

Sure, you can make the argument that it’s just a more socially acceptable or shared delusion but the sociology is pretty clear that statistically, the “organized religion” one is more clearly linked to better outcomes.

I am not going to argue causation, and I think that churches in the US have mostly themselves to blame for the collapse in confidence and attendance. But it is absolutely not clear that sliding levels of religious observation is leading to improved social stability, mental health, social cohesion, etc.....and the potential negative side is far more pronounced among people who are already living at the margins.

Except that every QAnon or semi-QAnon nut I know is also quite evangelically religious and a fairly regular church goer. The biggest conspiracy theorists I know are the most religious. Religion, at least the US version of it, is very much fueling this bullshit or at a minimum it’s a leading indicator of who’s gonna be dumb enough to go down the Q rabbit trail.

  5. Every rich motherfucker in Midland has a place at HSB, and most of the almost rich guys do too. Not sure why other than that it’s close enough to drive if your jet breaks down and is close to Austin.

  6. Went to Easy Tiger tonight around 5:00 to see the Verde Van and buy a jersey. Line was 30 deep. Left at 7:30 and the line was still 30 deep. Never got in the line, decided to drink beer and eat pretzels and sammiches instead. I’ll just buy online. Glad to see that folks are so fired up. Not your typical UT crowd. More heavily hipster and Mexican with a fair dose of middle aged dorks like me.

  7. Just got an email from an opposing lawyer in San Angelo - 3 out of his 7 staff have Covid, including his wife, and one is in the hospital. Meanwhile, Texas has its highest day of reported cases yet. Sheesh this holiday season is gonna suck. Need that damn vaccine yesterday.

ease up. put some respect on Beto's name.

He's been working like crazy for 2 years to turn this state blue. Abrams has been working for 6 years so it's not a fair comparison.

Dude married into money and has a beautiful family. He doesn’t have to be doing any of this. I respect his work ethic. He’s trying, which is more than many can say.

I'm glad that the Democratic Party will have to actually perform to get their votes and they have the perfect opportunity. End qualified immunity for police officers, reinstate consent decrees, and publicize the shit out of both actions.

Agreed. They shouldn't give the Dems a rubber stamp. Make them earn the support, in ways they haven't in the past.
