  1. We got excited because we thought that everything was going to unravel right in front of us in a 48 hour period. It’s understandable. We were on the verge of seeing what would be the greatest geopolitical event since the fall of the Berlin Wall and maybe we still did. It took two whole years from the Wall going down to the dissolving of the Soviet Union. The Wall falling was the breaking away of the most visible non-nuclear symbol of Soviet power in the European front. Russia’s most powerful and seasoned troops withdrawing from the newest Russian/European conflict border, Ukraine, turning their guns east, and holding the Kremlin hostage to meet demands was our modern day equivalent. People are openly wondering “how could Prog possibly believe this is over and he is safe” but the same could be asked of Putin’s mindset. Both sides of that conflict are irreparably damaged. Imagine how many oligarchs just saw their fortunes flash before their eyes. Imagine how much chatter about Putin’s weakness has been picked up by the FSB. May we live in interesting times, indeed.
  2. Until we hear from Putin, I question whether he is still in power. Especially if he fled Moscow as reported.
  3. Trying to get Ukraine offsides doesn’t make sense either. You don’t pants Putin like this and just stop. Julius Caesar crossed the Rubicon and gave his enemies in the Senate time to flee so he could obtain power without spilling Roman citizen blood, which would turn the populace against him and maintain popular support. May be a page out of that playbook.
  4. Only way I see this making sense is that Putin has been removed and replaced with someone that won’t kill Prog.
  5. Makes zero sense. It would be a death sentence for Proggles to do this. He knows Putin won’t just forget that he was made to look powerless to the rest of the world.
  6. Well, funny thing about all this, BoeBoe, is that a lot of the Far Right financial support was Russian money funneled into Republican PACs. Putin money. The GOP financial rug might have just been pulled from under them 17 months from the 2024 election.
  7. Hey, Turkey, as a NATO nation, you might want to start checking if any of your new guests happen to have pending war crime charges.
  8. In the older days of Shaggy, I had knock down, drag out shit flinging arguments with posters that I was certain I wouldn’t want to even share an empty parking lot with. Then you end up having two beers with someone at a tailgate before you even get around to having the “I’m from the internet” conversation and realize that not only are you talking to that person, you are actually enjoying their company. And it happened a lot over a 3 or 4 year period. Really drove home the “human” aspect of the internet for me. It’s easy to get crossways with pixels on a screen.
  9. The “Surly exceptionalism” theory is a new one for me. An unbiased party reading this site probably thinks we all type by slamming our heads on the keyboard.
  10. Jobs may have drank too much of the kool-aid about being “first” and pumping up the importance of Apple releasing tech that already existed, but Jobs absolutely had a clear, concise vision with clear, concise timelines that he consistently delivered on. The only snake oil with Jobs was the importance of Apple being the company to release tech. Does it already exist? Didn’t matter. If Apple hadn’t released it, then it didn’t “exist” in Jobs’ mind. But Apple did drive innovation and did improve on already existing concepts exactly how Jobs said it would exactly when Jobs said they would.
  11. I thought I was seeing things with the mammatus clouds. Those things were at least 50 miles from the storm. Very strange.
  12. If he wants to be a asymptomatic carrier of gonnasyphaherpalaids, that’s his choice.
  13. I literally thought “What did the Clinton family cat do?”
  14. Same thing in golf. There’s a set of conditions where the ball just disappears into the sky. You’re tracking it and it vanishes.
  15. They aren’t saints, but at least they aren’t traitors is my exact position on this topic. Hillary might have got away with one, but it was hubris and not malice and no harm came from it. Believe it or not, it is possible to dislike a Democrat candidate and not be a Republican. Two gigantic middle fingers to anyone who claims I voted for Trump, though. Not the first time around and definitely not the second.
  16. Nope and nope and I resent the insinuation that I ever even came close to pulling the lever for Trump. If you think my take on Hillary’s handling of classified information is a bit strong, hoo-boy, so I have news for you about my take on Trump. Hillary didn’t get assets killed and drastically weaken our intelligence position across the globe like Trump most likely did. Trump deserves no less than prison for the damage he did to America’s defensive posture.
  17. That’s not it in the slightest. It’s merely pointing out that Hillary mishandled classified docs in a manner that was criminally investigated and she probably got away with one because she knew how to play it. The difference is that she didn’t do it to hold onto some of the country’s vital secrets to share with anybody she wanted to impress, she did it out of pure “rules for thee, not for me” hubris that a large chunk of America was so sick and tired of. People are so eager to waive it off as “everybody did it, so it’s no big deal” that they’re leaning on the fact that she got the idea from Colin Powell. Is that who you want her taking transparency tips from? One of the architects of the Iraq invasion?
  18. Yeah, losing sucks and losing like that is gut-wrenching, but getting as far as the super regionals during this season is basically playing with house money. And it was a fantastic series on top of that? The team exceeded expectations and it took a fluke play at the worst time to end it. My silver lining here is that this series is what got my son interested in baseball. Asked to watch every single game and he was bummed that he wouldn’t make it through the whole game tonight. “Tell me exactly what happened tomorrow morning.” I’ll spare him the gritty details. No need to ruin his Texas sports experience this early. Plenty of time for that later.
  19. What a shitty way to lose such a great game.
  20. First pitch was a strike, but don’t yap at Blue when you throw 3 obvious balls after that. Coach pulled him because he knew he’d be a head case after that.
  21. My Apple weather app shows 50% chance almost every day on the 10 day, but in the precipitation window it says none expected over the next 10 days. Make up your mind, Ghost of Steve Jobs.
