  1. No one ever beats Ohio State in the Shoe at night…
  2. Just renewed promotional rate on two radios - $5.99 plus taxes and fees, for total of $7.75 per radio. This is exactly what I have been paying for the past year. Before getting that rate, she tried hard to move me to a non-promotional rate of $6.99 plus taxes and fees, for a total of $9.05 per radio. The pitch was that this is not a promotional rate, and that I would not need to call and play the game in a year to prevent the rate from floating up to then current retail rate. But, there was also no assurance regarding stability of the rate she wanted to sell me.
  3. Strong Modena recommendation for morning tour at Acetaia di Giorgio, followed by lunch at Trattoria Ermes. Reservation recommended for Acetaia di Giorgio. Ermes is lunch only and takes no reservations. Arrive early.
  4. I mostly followed this recipe from Sylvia Casares (Sylvia's Enchilada Kitchen in Houston) by way of Texas Monthly. Deviations: I substituted poblano for bell pepper; I tightened with masa instead of flour; and Because I have a Vitamix and learned to make chili from Surly, I did not process the garlic in the spice grinder, and I did not strain the chili sauce. After grinding the cumin seeds and peppercorns, I processed everything together in the Vitamix, adding a bit more liquid from the simmering meat as needed.

Not too far away, we had an exceptional dinner at Olivomare, 10 Lower Belgrade St.
  6. Was done through our builder. He used Xpedite Coatings (Houston).
  7. The chips give good traction. I’ve been told single color - no chips - can be slick.
  8. This is a secondary setup for the kids, for whom I have only the AVR; no speakers. The primary setup is a Cambridge Audio AVR and Usher speakers. In moving from 5.1 to 7.1, I recently upgraded the mains and am thinking of upgrading the center. If so, the current center (Usher S-525) would be available for the game room.
  9. I am looking to add 5.1 sound to the kids' game room for under $1K. I have a Marantz NR1608 AVR available, which is rated at 50 W for two channels driven at 8 ohms, so I need relatively efficient speakers. This will be overwhelmingly for movies and gaming; not so much for music. Thanks for any suggestions (other than Cerwin Vegas from the white van at Home Depot).

There are Nandos in and around DC and Chicago. And, two are soon to open in Houston, with a promise of more to come, including in Austin and Dallas.

My in-laws (wife’s brother’s family) are spending the 2022-23 academic year in London. We are visiting Thanksgiving week and will stay with them in Chiswick. Between the two families, there are three 15-16 year old kids. We arrive Monday morning and depart the following Sunday morning, so no Sunday roast. Here is what my sister-in-law has put together for the week. I welcome suggestions of restaurants and of anything glaringly missing. Thanks.
