  1. Or down to your knee in my case
  2. I’m a principal facing similar issues with PTA.
  3. We won’t know about enrollment until the end of August. I’ll file that in the “who the hell knows” category. The legislature said PTAs can fund positions. There a timing issue related to school district budgets and when new laws go into effect but they will be back. Bussing wasn’t close to happening. It was never really considered. This year counts in terms of all the ratings. The new admin team is really strong with academic systems that prevent that type of failure. Previous admin basically had no systems in place so it’s not a surprise that some schools fell through the cracks.
  4. From the article posted above: Elizalde also said district officials are consulting with an outside attorney on whether they could enforce quarantines for those who are found to have been exposed or test positive for COVID-19. Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath has told superintendents that school districts cannot mandate quarantines, she said. "We don't think the commissioner can tell us whether we can quarantine or not. We think that's a health authority issue," she said.
  5. I obviously want kids to get the vacccine sooner rather than later but it might make things easier for schools. People can only withstand their own children for so long 😀
  6. Agree. This group is largely affluent, had good pods last year, and didn’t experience a lot of learning loss so they view it a little differently. From the school’s perspective, we are trying to re-engage with the community and rebuild relationships and this would cause more disruption. Everybody is looking for consistency.
  7. Yep, or setting up pods again. It’s an affluent area.
  8. The doctors in my school community seem to think they will have access in October or November.
  9. It’s an elementary school so they aren’t eligible yet.
  10. I don’t see any changes coming at this point. There isn’t the political will for it. My biggest concern is the number of parents that don’t send their kids back because there will be little social distancing and not many masks. This is disruptive to a school to have so many kids in and out and obviously hurts their eduction. At the most basic level, we staff schools for the number of children. Having 400 in August and 600 in December (after kids are vaxed) it would be a staffing difference of 9-10 teachers. I don’t expect the numbers to be that drastic, but I am already hearing from parents that won’t be sending their kids back until they are vaccinated.
  11. I’ll go back and reread it tonight. I skimmed it and a lot of time was spent on brushing scams if that wasn’t what was actually going on.
  12. They didn’t order the seeds. It was a brushing scam. For it to work, you actually have to send something, preferably cheap. Seeds made a great dummy product.

Haven’t been since pre-covid but Soto is great. Only been to the lakeline location.
  14. We are starting school as normal. It would take insanely bad numbers to change that. Currently virtual is not funded by the state and requiring masks is prohibited. Almost no chance Abbott retreats from that stance. The superintendent is also all about a normal start to the year and isn’t really thrilled with how last year went down. It was her first year so she didn’t have a lot of leverage.
  15. While I don’t see temple as a future metropolis, I have been checking out potential investment properties there. Would be easy for me to manage from my current location, has a low entry point, and plenty of potential for growth.
  16. I’m the principal of an elementary school. Let me know if she ever needs anything.
  17. The thread about fat people has devolved into people talking about all you can eat meat buffets.
  18. I did some basic searches of small town teacher salary schedules and was not able to find anything under 40k. Anything near a city is close to 50k. Austin ISD is currently starting at 51k with a 6k bilingual stipend. Of course you are making 53,500 after 10 years but that’s a different story….
  19. It’s a Kevin Fowler song
  20. Is the wife teaching at a private school? She can start at 50+ in public school and get a 6k stipend if she is bilingual.
  21. Pics not coming through yet. I’ll check back since I’ve had some Wi-Fi issues today.
  22. You gonna tell yours to lose 10 pounds?
  23. With all due respect, tell the wife to fuck off. Respectfully, of course.
  24. My wife is on a low sodium diet due to a health condition so I basically am too. It’s amazing how salty restaurant food tastes when you don’t eat like that regularly.
  25. Those are all great things at an individual level, but I don’t think it’s realistic across the 200 million people that need to lose weight in this country. Like I said with calorie counting, it’s far from the ideal solution. But when dealing with large numbers, something that everybody can understand and implement is going to yield the best results. In football terms, you can’t roll an NFL playbook out to middle schoolers.
