  1. Good luck. I just drove down the beach and it is flat calm. Y’all should have a great trip.
  2. There was a 14 foot hammerhead caught 2 weeks ago.
  3. Lol there is no way they put 1800 horsepower on the back of a 30 foot boat. Scout makes some models in the mid 40’s and maybe even a 50 footer. It’s still fucking stupid. Cool boat though.
  4. I live in Port Aransas, so yes I’m pretty familiar with the stuff.
  5. Those are blackfin tuna you caught. The giant tuna are bluefin - they average 600 pounds or more and are only caught when they spawn here in the gulf late March through mid May. They are 100+ miles out and take very heavy tackle if you want any chance of getting them to the boat. The gulf wide quota is roughly 10 fish per year.
  6. Floridians and the tourists seem like a bunch of pussies. It’s seaweed. Can it get bad? Sure, but it’s not going to ruin a vacation.
  7. There is pretty much nothing in Puerto Jimenez itself but it has access to good fishing out of there or Golfito. Also some world class surfing nearby. The draw down there is Corcovado National Park which is absolutely amazing. Ive spent a ton of time in Golfito but I’ve only flown through Puerto Jimenez. The flight from SJO stops there before flying across the Golfo Dulce on the way to Golfito. It’s a 3 minute flight.
  8. That’s pretty true on the weekends. Weekdays are great though.
  9. Memorial Day. Then it gets really bad right before July 4th and stays very crowded through mid August or whenever school starts back up.
  10. You can target them in April and May. They are here spawning. But the quota is only 6 or so fish per year so unless you catch one of the first ones you have to let them go. They are fishing for them 100+ miles out.
  11. They fought it for 8 hours or so. Normally wouldn’t take nearly that long because they are targeting bluefin on really heavy tackle, but that one died on the line deep down. When that happens it’s a bitch to get them in.
  12. Those are 2 different fish. First picture was 2 years ago caught by friends of mine and is the state record. Second and third pictures are from a fish caught last week on a party boat out of dolphin docks. While still a massive tuna it was 200 pounds less than the state record.
  13. Quepos, Costa Rica. Double Hook Sports Bar @Marina Pez Vela 🤘 Y’all have fun.
  14. I’ve fished a ton this trip. Headed out again in the morning and fishing 2 days then a few days off and then a few more days of fishing before I head home. Can’t believe I’ve already been down here almost 3 months.
  15. I’ve been using Sling down here for games but you need to run a VPN with it. YouTubeTV doesn’t seem to work at all even with the VPN. The tournament app MM Live works but I can’t remember if I had the VPN on for it or not. Anyway I’d guess the JW will have the game. Have a good trip.
  16. They still don’t have it restored. Clusterfuck of epic proportions which spring break is anyway. So glad I’m not at home.
  17. Sent a drone up on this frisky sailfish. Caught a bunch more sails, tuna, and dorado yesterday.
  18. Salty Dog. Gaff for beer and pizza. Bernie’s for the younger spring break crowd. My usual answer would be Shorty’s but it’s still closed for their move and remodel.
  19. If you have everything listed in the proper order, there is no way you will be able to do dinner at La Playa (it doesn’t open until 5) and then make a 6 p.m. dolphin watch tour. Also, in general the restaurants are going to be clusterfucks. Go as early as you can to them. Kody’s is another place that can handle 11. So can Crazy Cajun, but it sucks.
  20. https://ticotimes.net/2023/02/26/first-inmates-transferred-to-el-salvadors-new-terrorist-confinement-center Yup. This will not end well.
  21. Fulton/Rockport has better Mexican food than Corpus. As mentioned Kiko’s is ok. Unfortunately they need to drive to San Antonio for the good stuff.
  22. Lots of good info on this thread. I like the central and southern coast better - Manuel Antonio, Dominical, Uvita but the weather is a little more iffy in the summer. Tamarindo obviously has a lot to do for the teenagers and if you like that area Flamingo is nearby and has a new marina so it’s growing. It’s also very close to Playa Conchal which is one of the nicest beaches in all of CR. South of Tamarindo are some cool smaller beach towns - Samara and Nosara in particular.
  23. Fishing has stayed extremely slow for this time of year in Costa Rica. Still way more marlin around than usual but the sailfish just aren’t here in numbers like they should be. Yesterday we found a ton of yellowfin tuna everywhere we went so got some for dinner, then caught this nice blue marlin and a few sails. We are fishing a one day tournament on Saturday so hopefully the fishing picks up. IMG_1032.MOV IMG_1033.MOV
  24. First 2 pictures of Game Plan are the ACY, Griffin is the Rybovich and the picture doesn’t do it justice. Sea Angel is the Merritt and Billfisher is the Duffie.
  25. So I’m getting pretty spoiled this trip to Costa Rica. So far I’ve fished multiple days on a 65’ American Custom Yacht. And one day each on a 65’ Rybovich, 50’ Blackwell, 60’ Jim Smith, 64’ Viking, 64’ Duffie, 72’ Merritt, 51’ Scarborough, and a 68’ Viking. They’ve all been amazing fishing machines but the Rybovich and Merritt really stood out. I wish I had taken more pictures but here’s a few I took and some I grabbed off the internet.
