  1. We are currently about 70 miles offshore of Pavones and 140 from Jaco. In the winter we are fishing much closer in - between 15-50 miles. First stop this morning was a bust so we are moving about 15 miles right now.
  2. Long version. Not sure we will ever top this one. This fish tail walked more than I’ve ever seen.
  3. Just pulled lines in for the day. Ended with 5 blue marlin and 5 sailfish. Raised 5 more blues missed 3 and 2 didn’t bite. Going to move a little further offshore overnight to fish a different set of FADs tomorrow. Short drone clip- vert blue peggy.mov
  4. Just lost a 500+ lb blue. That’s huge for out here. Bite has slowed down some since this morning we are 4/6 on blues and 2/2 on sails. Still waiting on my buddy to download his drone footage but he’s too busy pounding beers.
  5. We just got the best drone footage we’ve ever had. Show off blue. Posting soon. It doesn’t suck being able to do this in one of the top fishing marinas in the world.
  6. I am pretty sure you were giving me him anyway.
  7. We’ve been fishing for 2 hours now 4 blue marlin bites and released 3 and my wife and I caught a double header. Dealing with weather issues (rain) so not sure how much longer we can stay here. No drone shots yet can’t fly in the rain.
  8. Back in CR did a day trip today picked up 6 sailfish and broke off a nice blue on light tackle. We had a drone right on top of it when it broke off otherwise would have gotten a great show. Bonus wahoo and yellowfin tuna. Going to spend the night at Drake Bay and run out deep to the FADs early tomorrow morning to target marlin if the weather cooperates. peggy sail.mov IMG_2569.mov
  9. Seems like we really need a guard.
  10. Ah I forgot about that. Taqueria El Tapatio used to be great especially their breakfast tacos. It’s the only good food I ever found in Portland but I haven’t been in years.
  11. It’s not exactly a foodie scene in Corpus and especially Portland. Downtown Corpus I’d go with Republic of Texas or Water Street Oyster Bar
  12. That was my post that started all this.
  13. @immamacmay have a post for this thread. Or maybe it should go in IPIHB.
  14. Good. La Playa’s Tex Mex fits right in. I do get what you are saying. La Playa to me is sort of the equivalent of Matt’s El Rancho. I really like Matt’s, but I don’t ever order their Tex Mex. And I’d rather have cheese enchilada from Taco Cabana than what they serve at La Playa.
  15. So you haven’t been in 5 years, and I live in Port A and probably go twice a month when I am in town. I’ll stick with my opinion which is what it is. Compared to what I am used to in San Antonio and Austin that kind of stuff at La Playa is terrible.
  16. Edible cheese enchiladas, crispy tacos, refried beans?
  17. La Playa is very good. I just wish they had good basic Tex Mex to go with their fajitas and seafood.
  18. I didn’t realize they did that on the villas. Good to know.
  19. Like you say it’s not horrible. Sort of like every other restaurant in this town except Venetian. It’s either fried tourist food or “high end” that is way overpriced for the quality like Roosevelt’s, Phoenix, Black Marlin, Lisabella’s.
  20. We’ve lost our 3 best restaurants (Pelican Club/Liberty Hall/Inferno, Shells, and Marcel’s). All 3 had owners who retired and nobody new has come in with anything good. There is no variety. I’d kill for a good Mexican restaurant.
  21. Just get a driver to get you to Arenal, Manuel Antonio and the airport and save yourself the hassle of driving there. I’m not sure why you are seeing that Tulemar is week long rentals only. But a week there is about perfect.
  22. Despite all the growth in Port A the food scene is somehow worse than ever. Shells is gone it has been replaced by a BierHaus based out of Lubbock. Venetian Hot Plate is still your best bet for dinner. There’s a new oyster place by Castaways called KC’s Oyster Shack that is pretty good. Cinnamon Shore added a new restaurant about a month ago but I have heard nothing about it yet. There are a couple of new bars, the best being Sip Yard. It’s all outdoors with a live music stage and a food court.
  23. August is one of the “cooler” months because it is rainy season but it is always hot in CR. Around 90 degrees and humid year round unless you are in the mountains. If you do end up in Manuel Antonio let me know, I’ll be there and will take y’all fishing one day if you want. I only went down to the main beach once while we were their last trip. Didn’t notice anything going on around Buena Vista. They are starting to see a pretty big decline in tourism numbers - it’s very noticeable. Doubt we will see much new development anytime soon. Yup. August through October is generally the worst of rainy season. Sometimes November too. That said it’s pretty rare to lose a whole day or trip due to rain. I was there for almost 3 months last year from July until the end of September and never had a problem. This year April was much more rainy than usual and it’s been raining a ton in late May. January, February, and March it is sunny every day.
  24. Exactly. Now, if you don’t mind just staying on property all day it’s fine. And at Tulemar you can walk to some really great restaurants. But you won’t be able to take either kid on any excursions.
  25. The problem with Parador is no beach access and it’s not on the main road so you have to take a taxi to anywhere you want to go. There are a ton of nice properties in Manuel Antonio and some are nicer than Tulemar. But because of Tulemar’s location it is really, really hard to beat. And it will be much easier with kids with 10 good restaurants within walking distance.
