    Texas Primaries

Phelan will be in a runoff.
  2. Tech wouldn’t even disclose the specifics of the offending remarks. Scary stuff in this state.

Being DeSouza’s SIL should disqualify one from holding office.
  4. There was the time he called school shooting survivors “media prosti-tots” for advocating for gun-control policies. The meme mocking a Harvey Weinstein accuser, and the other meme mocking actresses for wearing “whore dresses to protest sexual harassment.” The prediction that rising acceptance of homosexuality would lead to pedophilia and “the END of civilization as we know it”; the talk of arresting transgender people for their bathroom choice; the use of antisemitic tropes; the Facebook posts calling Hillary Clinton a “heifer” and Michelle Obama a man.

Gutierrez is more progressive than Colin which probably means Colin has a more realistic chance of defeating Rafael in the general.

He’s worst than that. That biscuit is flat ass crazy.
  7. And that’s how it’s done when you lose a presidential election. One calls and graciously concedes.
  8. True. This kind of thing is normally hashed out in the judge’s chambers. Again, this is the most Atlanta shit ever.
  9. So, the only position faculty at Texas universities can take with impunity is one that uncritically supports Israel? https://www.texastribune.org/2024/03/04/texas-tech-university-professor-israel-hamas/ https://forward.com/fast-forward/573226/university-texas-austin-teaching-assistants-suspended-palestinian/
  10. In their ongoing effort to outlaw black history in Florida, the GOP wants to make sure you know that some enslaved people were paid for their work: https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-news/florida-republican-alex-andrade-slaves-paid-1234979351/ Florida state Rep. Alex Andrade forcefully argued the point that some slaves were paid during a discussion of an anti-CRT bill the House passed on Friday. The overwhelming majority of slaves were, of course, not paid for their labor. Moreover, slaves were treated as property, without basic rights.
  11. They’re cousins. I don’t understand that evolved people can’t get along.
  12. God, we need critical thinkers in the dumb country. That some goof like Rufo could get half of the country all bug eyed over a theory that the majority of them can’t explain, is depressing.
  13. I just provided an example of equity, or more specifically inequity. Relax.
  14. And Jesus said, “who touched me?” Lk 8:45-46
  15. Tech and Houston find themselves in a perpetual state of catch up to UT and aggy because of long term inequities in funding. Even if the state started to fund all systems equally starting tomorrow, they would still be behind because they’ve always been behind, and without an equitable arrangement, there is no catching up.
  16. Well, he’s wasted millions of our tax dollars on razor wire, bus and plane tickets for migrants.
  17. I’d like to hear from those of you who really believe DEI is a danger to Texans? What’s bad about diversity, or inclusion? Most people opposed to equity can’t tell you what it means.
  18. Can we make a distinction between Bible thumpers and Christ followers?
  19. One could have slept through a history class and still learned about all of the enslavers.
  20. They won’t stop the flogging until she bleeds or finds Trump’s 11,780 votes.
  21. The world got along without race for the overwhelming majority of its history. The U.S. has never been without it.”
  22. The public face of America’s official racial classification is its census, and has been so since the first decennial enumeration in 1790. The initial classification was implicit in two civil status distinctions: free or slave, taxed or untaxed. Applying these distinctions in the census generated a count of three ancestry groups (European, African, and [untaxed] Native American), which set the foundation for all racial classifications to come. From that starting point, the division of the population by race has been repeated in every decennial census, down to the most recent in 2000 https://www.amacad.org/publication/racial-classification-america#:~:text=The public face of America's,or slave%2C taxed or untaxed.
  23. Swalwell has become quite the bad ass. He should tutor his colleagues.
