  1. Congrats to DMTX he went under 4 hrs at the Cowtown on Sunday!!!! The Cowtown half was supposed to be my goal race, but I DNSed. Youngest daughter got the flu Friday night and middle daughter had a gymnastics meet Sunday morning. I stayed home with the youngest Sunday morning while my wife went to the gymnastics meet. As of last night she was still running a fever. We are hoping it finally broke when she woke up this morning no fever. She is on Tamiflu. Hoping no one else in the family gets it, everyone got the flu shot. I was in decent shape too, logging hill repeats every week and some hard runs. Oh well, shit happens, I'll find something else.
  2. Everyone is killing it this year!!!! Great job everyone...I've got a half coming up and one last marathon, which I am not shooting for a goal time, more of like a hard fun run.
  3. Something to consider is that solar panels degrade over time. So the power they provide now won’t be the same in 10 years. What degradation you’ll experience is hard to say.
  4. I don't have a lot to lose, but I want to lose another 7 lbs or 4% body fat whichever comes first. I've stalled out the last 6-7 months. I do well for a couple of a weeks, then go back to eating too much crap at night. I figured I could make myself accountable by coming on here. Good luck to everyone for a healthier 2019.
  5. Only once when my daughter threw up all over the bed, left a big tip. Otherwise, no, I've grown tired of feeling like I need to tip everyone and their mother.
  6. Oxdeadbeef - it’s just one of those moments where you either harden up or go back to bed. It’s never fun to run in cold rain, but it really isn’t that bad. I look at it this way you have no idea what race day weather is going to be like so it’s mental prep. I ran this morning in the cold rain with a long sleeve smartwool shirt, shorts and visor. I was soaked when I got home but about fifteen minutes later back to normal.
  7. Excellent job - super fast - now you can relax until the summer
  8. Oldest daughter is off taking her driving test, she should pass. Going to be nice not having to drive her around everywhere but damn if I’m not shiting bricks thinking of her driving with all of the dumb asses on the road.
  9. Only watch off the top of my head is the Garmin 645. I think Tom Tom offers one, might be others though. They are going to offer some of the other items that you don’t need. My guess this year others will come out with watches that stream music.
  10. I'll second dmtx - Cowtown crowd support and runners thin out at the marathon split. I don't know what the ratio of half to full runners is but I would be willing to guess 80-85% of the participants run the half. I did the full twice years ago, before the course was changed and even then at the split I felt like I was running alone. Which i do that everyday anyway so not really a big deal for me.
  11. Plywood decking with hail resistant shingles. I guess I need to check with the roofing company, hadn't thought about that. We had a new roof installed a little over a year ago.
  12. I am considering having this done in the attic. Just wondering if anyone else has had this done? What kind of utility savings did you see? Were you able to cool the house down easier? Right now my a/c upstairs will run for two hours straight in the late afternoon just to keep it at 77. I had the upstairs a/c serviced last week, freon, compressor, etc is good. I've gotten two bids, both are similar dollar amounts, but one company wants to spray the roof line, while the other wants to remove all of the current insulation and spray the bottom of the attic. I kind of think spraying the roof line is the way to go, but wanted to get other thoughts.
  13. Yeah sorry about that - http://www.bq2races.com/spring-chance-bq
  14. Urban Achiever - not sure if they still have slots but I've always wanted to do the Colorado Marathon - http://comarathon.com/raceinfo If you want a boring fast course there is this one http://comarathon.com/raceinfo - you can bring your own bottles and set them up on tables. From my understanding if you pick up a water bottle and leave it at the table down the road they will return it to the original table before you make it around again. It is a loop course designed for people to try and BQ. There is Big Sur Marathon, tough course but amazing views. Vermont City Marathon at the end of May, flat with some rollers. Shamrock Marathon in March at Virginia Beach, supposed to fast, but not sure what the weather is like that time of the year.
  15. Ok this has nothing to do with running, but I wanted to post it anyway. I was in Park City, Utah over the weekend. I am admittedly an Olympic junkie, so I went to the Olympic Park to look at the bobsled run and tour the museum. When I got there I discovered you can pay to do the bobsled run. That was one of the coolest things I have ever done. It only lasted a minute, but it was so cool. During the summer they put wheels on the sled. The driver said the speed is only 70-75mph with the wheels and you pull 4-5gs in the turns. He mentioned with ice, the speeds are much faster and the g force a lot higher. In the winter they just do the short course due to safety concerns. Anyway here is the footage from my run on the long course bobsled. https://youtu.be/a6s7dTB2j5M
  16. Thought i would give this thread a bump. Did a sprint tri in Denton a few weeks ago. I was happy with it 4th OA would have been close for 3rd but I forgot where I racked my bike. Missed 3rd by 20seconds, would have been close who knows. I got two awesome runs in the last couple of days. Picking up my daughter at a camp. Got to run in Provo and Park City. Park City was my favorite. Ran on a bike / jogging path surrounded by mountains and amazing weather, mid 50s, humidity was in the low 30s. Felt so nice. Back to Denton today though, nice while it lasted. Anyone have any races coming up?
  17. I don’t fish like you guys, at least not since I lived on the coast. Anyway, the last couple of years my BIL has been kayak fishing off the coast. He paddles 2-3 miles offshore. Couple of weekends ago he decides to start recording his catches. He caught a tarpon that weekend. Here’s his YouTube clip of it
  18. Wife signed a non-compete with a medical practice, a few years later the practice was sold to a larger organization held by United Healthcare. My wife and new management couldn't get along. Wife got fed up and decided to start her own practice. We had no idea if her non-compete was still valid due to the sale, but she was either going on her own or have a breakdown. About four months into her practice she received a letter saying she owed her non-compete. She hired a medical practice lawyer out of Austin and he said non-competes are mostly valid these days. Ultimately, he got it knocked down 25% and a one year payment plan. In the end he said his fees would almost total the non-compete amount if they went to court and it was better just to pay the reduced amount. Moral of the story, see if X company will reduce the buyout, because in the end the lawyer fees could cause the new company to go bankrupt. Never underestimate some scorned idiot with lots of corporate money to burn in lawyer fees.
  19. I think the Europeans enjoy / take the endurance sports more seriously. Cycling, Swim/Run, Speed Skating, Cross-Country Skiing, etc are all big in Europe, where in the US we gravitates towards baseball (although watching it is a test of endurance), football, etc. As en endurance athlete I would definitely like to see more endurance sports here.
  20. Congrats Clintonaldo - being able to run a pace during training runs will not always mean you can run that during your race. I think you just need more miles and increase the LR to 13-15, well that is what I do. Jerry - if you can find a coach or a masters swim club to help with your swimming, that is the hardest part to learn for adults. I still struggle with it.
  21. Here is a link with some exercises to help with shin splints. Aside from rest, she can wear compression sleeves at night and do calf stretches a few times a day. It is a long thread, but lots of good information, hopefully she can get this cleared up before her marathon. https://forum.slowtwitch.com/forum/Slowtwitch_Forums_C1/Triathlon_Forum_F1/Shin_splints_P4925996/?search_string=shin splints#p4925996
  22. Barely worn Luminox, I just didn't like it, probably only worn 4-5 times, $100. Will ship anywhere in continental US. Needs a new battery. Black face, white dials. I can email pictures but have no idea on how to imbed them. No HDMI ports sorry. - Sold
