  1. They are great pitchers going in the top few rounds of the MLB draft in a few months going against a lineup that is missing several guys and has been in a funk that started before this weekend?
  2. Again, what do you want a team to do when they are getting their shit kicked in? Smile and jump around with a bunch of fake enthusiasm? Being “ramped up” and “locked in” means jackshit in a sport like baseball. We got our ass kicked because their best players have been superstars and ours haven’t. Being “locked in” doesn’t make it easier to hit 98 with a hammer curveball. If it did this sport would be a lot less complicated. I somewhat get where you are trying to go but the sport rarely works like that. Also, we have 19 SEC wins. We could lose every game the rest of the way and would still easily host. That is how much cushion we gave ourselves the first 3 months. Let’s just not use all that cushion.
  3. Schloss runs the offense on gameday. It is his philosophy ruling over everything. He wholeheartedly believes that most college pitchers can’t throw strikes consistently. Us being in the top 5 nationally in pitches per plate appearance is proof his philosophy has taken hold. Tulo is the one working with the players on mechanical adjustments day to day. Same setup he had with Earley last year. I think Schloss and Tulo are pretty aligned. If you remember that 2021 team we had where Tulo ran everything struck out a ton as well. Schloss has said openly that strikeouts don’t really bother him because his overall philosophy requires guys to be comfortable hitting with 2 strikes. I think a lot of what we are seeing are the same guys who struggled with swing and miss last year against Big 12 pitching (Gasparino, Flores, Borba, Farmer) still having a lot of the same issues against better pitching. Which makes sense. These guys are good coaches but they ain’t miracle workers.
  4. Schloss said from day 1 in fall ball that we had a good team but our best players were going to need to carry a heavy load and stay healthy because the depth wasn’t there. Our team leader at SS is hitting .180 in SEC play, our Friday night starter is out for the season, our best hitter hasn’t played in almost 2 months and our prized portal pickup in the outfield has been relegated to spot starts against Prairie View A&M. I think we all mentioned/feared getting out-talented at some point despite how well we’ve played for 3 months and it’s now staring us in the face. Have to respond.
  5. Nah. They’ll get the message. And it won’t be the reason we lose tonight.
  6. Missouri has us beat by a lot. We are second.
  7. Farmer and Borba aren’t bad players but they are the type of borderline players Pierce repeatedly brought in who are probably not championship level but also not bad enough to run out of town. Going to be some interesting movement with this roster in the offseason.
  8. Can Flores or Gasparino show any signs of life
  9. What do you expect a dugout to look like when you are down 4-1 and have struck out 27 times in 12 innings? I wouldn’t expect our guys to be laughing and jumping around.
  10. He is a starter who is coming back from a shoulder injury he suffered in February. Probably limited to around 50-60 pitches tonight.
  11. Did we face a single Big 12 arm last year who threw harder than 95?
  12. Does that homer even reach the warning track at the Disch?
  13. One guy is throwing 90 with some junk offspeed and the other is throwing 97 with a hammer.
  14. Schloss mentioned after Tuesday's game that Gasparino was dealing with something in his shoulder that was impacting his swing. He didn't sound too concerned, but even the minor injuries feel like a big deal right now.
  15. Faltine was a 7th rounder and signed for 200k. I think Flores has a little more upside than Faltine offensively (Faltine was a walking strikeout), but it's hard to see him going in the top 5 rounds at this point. He is also an old junior by age, so he would probably just be smart to take the 250- 300k a MLB team will give him and try to figure it out in pro ball.
  16. In conference play: Player A- .189 average, 4 homers, .400 slugging percentage and a 31% strikeout rate Player B- .205 average, 5 homers, .422 slugging percentage and a 49% strikeout rate
  17. We are 16th out of 16 teams in the SEC in batting average against lefties (.244) Against righties, we are 5th (.301) Considering we only start 1 or 2 left-handed bats most nights, it is very strange our splits are that different.
  18. Saw it pointed out elsewhere that this was Ruger's 3rd start in 12 days. Saturday start home against Auburn -> moved up to Friday against A&M -> bumped up another day to face Arkansas on Thursday. A much-needed 8-day layoff before his next start.
  19. Can’t imagine it was the most pleasant experience for our hitters seeing 85 MPH lollipop fastballs from Prairie View for 9 innings to 48 hours later facing Zach Root. Doesn't explain giving up 9 runs in 6 innings but yeah.
  20. We had 2 hits. Spencer could have been Superman and we still would have lost 1-0 tonight. Root could have thrown for 4 hours and we wouldn’t have figured it out.
  21. I’m not suggesting moving him because there are very limited options but man Ruger just isn’t the prototypical Friday guy when you look at the lack of swing and miss/overpowering stuff. We are really going to have to piece this thing together on the mound down the stretch.
  22. His summer ball assignment is to learn how to swing at the balls down the middle. Could end up being a good player.
  23. There was no way we were going through a 55 game season without one of these. Happens to every team. Getting it out of the system now.
  24. It’s baseball. Jayden Duplantier also crushed a few against several good Friday night arms the last month. Doesn’t mean he is a good player just like getting touched up in a start doesn’t make you a bad player. Root is a top 5 arm in the country. 81 strikeouts in 55 innings or whatever it was tells the story more than his ERA.
  25. Flores has regressed from last year quite a bit.
