  1. Schuessler has been really damn good at first base. Thomas was so good over there last year I expected a drop off but it hasn’t come yet.
  2. His approach is much improved. On pace for like 3x the number of walks he had last year.
  3. How dare you forget Longhorn Legend Cole Bott
  4. The line between good and good enough to win a title is razor thin, not mention it also requires some plain old good luck and lucky bounces. Pierce’s results at Texas would get him a statue at 98% of schools. But it was correctly identified that the trajectory wasn’t right and the move was made before there was a total collapse. As is the case in most sports, knowing who to hire and retaining them on your staff is half the battle. Pierce couldn’t handle that part. Schloss has proven he can at like 3 different stops and does well at surrounding himself with good cops so he can be the bad cop when needed. Meanwhile, Michael Early is a good cop surrounded by a bunch of good cops and that’s one of the reasons why A&M will have a new coach probably within 2 years.
  5. That decision isn't being based on getting in the tournament or not. We fired Pierce after 3 of 4 years of a super regional or better. Herman was fired after going 7-3 and winning a bowl game. Yes, if we make the tournament and then miraculously go to the Sweet 16, maybe he isn't fired, but this stuff always works itself out in the end.
  6. Maybe that’s why Schloss scheduled this series
  7. Sounds right. All the crappy Shaka years run together.
  8. Wasn’t it 2020 when we beat OU on the last second shot from Coleman to keep our tournament hopes alive and laid the biggest egg of all time a few days later against a crappy OSU team at home in a game that would have likely clinched a tournament berth?
  9. I think he finally removed them from his bracket, but Lunardi had 4-12 Oklahoma in the field has recently as a few days ago so I can’t imagine there are many bubble teams supporting resumes that much better than us.
  10. Santa Clara is going to be a solid test this weekend. They have a couple of really good arms, including one guy who has 28 strikeouts in 14 innings so far out of the bullpen.
  11. This is going to be funny when we don’t score and Howard gets the 9th inning
  12. Navarre, Flores and Volantis is the most talented trio of freshman pitchers we’ve had in a long time.
  13. His control was pretty bad in the fall.
  14. So we have 6 pitchers on the roster who still haven’t thrown and Howard, Moffett, Saunier and McCreery are unusable. 30 SEC games are going to be interesting.
  15. You should have to give up your NIL if you walk the leadoff guy after a 7-run inning.
  16. This score is wrong, right? Should be 11-5?
  17. They should have brought in one of their known quantities to put out that fire (Dre? Mercer?) before giving McCreery and Saunier clean innings.
  18. Catch a routine fly ball and none of this happens.
  19. Looking through the box score of the 2024 game against A&M Corpus and I forgot how frustrating that part of the season was. Had a 10 game homestand against Incarnate Word, Washington (x3), Air Force (x2), Baylor (x3) and A&M Corpus and somehow only went 6-4.
  20. Something I was reminded of today is you can only have 27 active players for a conference series in the SEC and you have to declare those 27 guys before each series. We will definitely have some interesting decisions to make. I’m assuming the 27 man roster will be something like: C (3): Galvan, Chamberlain, Service INF (6): Schuessler, Mendoza, Flores, Rodriguez, Borba, Duplantier OF (5): Winfield, Belyeu, Gasparino, Farmer, Richardson or Scott? RHP (7): Riojas, Burns, Duplantier, Grubbs, Flores, Rerick, McCreery, Saunier? LHP (5): Volantis, Spencer, Mercer, Bing, Harrison That is 27 and wouldn’t include some notable guys like Moffett, Hamilton, Tumis, Navarre, Howard, Stewart, etc.
  21. They received the most favorable SEC schedule in the league. No Arkansas, Tennessee, A&M, Florida or Auburn. Got Vandy, LSU and Texas all at home. Drew the tough road series of Missouri, South Carolina, Kentucky, Alabama and Georgia.
  22. Wells put in a pick for KJ Edwards to Texas. 65% confidence.
  23. https://texaslonghorns.com/sports/baseball/stats/2025 A few things that stick out when looking at the stats through 10 games: -Flores back up over .300 (.306) very quickly -Gasparino is at .220 but it feels like his at bats have been much better than last year for the most part -Chamberlain is 1 for 11 with 7 walks. He doesn’t look overwhelmed but not sure how sustainable that walk rate is. My guess is another DH option will emerge. -I guess you have to give Farmer everyday at bats right now (.286) over Winfield but I hope they keep Winfield in the mix at DH. -Duplantier with the 0.00 ERA because like usual he only allows inherited runners to score before buckling down -Grubbs has been awesome. -.217 batting average against for the entire staff shows how much better the pure stuff is on the mound. If I remember right, last year our batting average against ended up in the .260’s. -We are allowing almost one less walk per 9 innings compared to last year so far
  24. Don’t forget they gave him a lifetime contract a few years ago. No idea what it looks like to get out of that.
  25. Gerry: Two big recruiting notes OnTexasFootball caught up with two of the nations top prospects today. And the news is both good and not so positive. Texas and 5-star Tyler Atkinson … Multiple members of the Texas defensive staff are in a consistent communication with Grayson High (Loganville, Ga.) since the departure of area recruiter Tashard Choice. OnTexasFootball spoke with a member of the 6-2, 210-pounders circle today and the news for the Longhorns was positive. Atkinson remains very likely to make a June OV to Texas - as of today. Atkinson and family continue to have very positive feelings and thoughts about the Texas program. Texas and Javian Osborne … The news with the 4-star++ running back isn’t as positive. A person close to the recruitment has a feeling that Texas isn’t recruiting the DFW area back as hard as others. Texas running back’s coach Chad Scott has spoken with Osborne twice since being hired. Osborne has spring unofficial visits scheduled and to be scheduled to Michigan, Georgia, Miami, Florida State and possibly Alabama.
