  1. Earley is way too emotional in general. A team often reflects their manager and he is a first year coach living and dying with every pitch. He was changing positions between squatting and this weird standing position in front of the dugout constantly. When Schuessler dropped that pop up, Schloss was in the background and his expression didn’t change one bit. No big deal, just move on to the next pitch.
  2. Call it a hunch, but I feel like Harrison actually matches up well with this lineup with the lefties and his ability to spin breaking balls. He’ll hit Binderup twice because we can’t avoid that but I got a good feeling otherwise.
  3. He hasn't been as good as I expected. It's interesting to see that almost all their returning arms took a step back without Weiner. Prager was a 3rd round pick last year, made a stupid decision to come back, and now his velo is down and his ERA is over 7.00 in SEC play.
  4. I will be interested to see him pitch live on Sunday. Long Beach State transfer who was all but committed to Texas before A&M swooped in at the last minute and offered an outrageous amount.
  5. So Kendall Rodgers said on D1baseball earlier this week that he could see 2 SEC coaching changes as things stand today. It got me thinking about who he might be referencing, and one seems obvious (Lemonis at Miss State), but I am struggling to think of who he might be referencing for the second. Would South Carolina pull the plug on Mainieri after 1 year? Would a school like Missouri that doesn't care about baseball fire a coach after only 2 years? Maybe 0-30 in league play is fireable regardless of what year you are in? Earley's seat seems relatively cool for now, assuming they don't collapse down the stretch.
  6. It was announced a while back that Texas is playing in the Maui Invitational the week of Thanksgiving with Arizona State, Boise State, Chaminade, NC State, Seton Hall, USC and Washington State. Don't think the bracket has been announced yet.
  7. FCB actually had a good baseball piece with some quotes from Tulo
  8. When you play a team that bad, especially at home, you lose RPI points, win or lose. I believe Lamar dropped about 50 RPI points by winning last night. That will be closer to 100 RPI points for us, even if we win the game. For reference, 145 RPI points currently separate us from #5 RPI Arkansas. If we play that game, that is fine, but it could be the difference between a top 5 RPI finish and a top 10 RPI finish, depending on how the rest of the season goes. Maybe we go 8-4 in our last 4 conference series and it ends up not mattering, but considering how heavily the committee weighs RPI when seeding teams, it is a risk. The game should never have been scheduled. That is probably the real issue here.
  9. Prairie View A&M played Lamar last night and walked or hit 22 batters in a 7-inning run rule. Lamar dropped about 5 RPI spots by playing the game.
  10. Hopefully we find a good reason to cancel PV A&M. Completely pointless to play that game. I don't even believe in the 'let's get the little-used guys some experience' theory because nothing you do against a 5-29 SWAC team with a team ERA of 9.56 is translatable to actual baseball the rest of the season or the rest of their careers. We will lose RPI points just by stepping on the field to play the game. I'm assuming Schloss scheduled the game 6 months ago with the thought we might need an extra win down the stretch to help our resume but the season has played out much differently than any of us expected. Lamar on the other hand will be a good test. Top 70 RPI and could win the Southland with a strong finish.
  11. He is 41-67 in SEC play since he won that title and might miss the postseason completely for the third time in 4 seasons.
  12. Ole Miss beats Mississippi State in extras. Miss State is the most confusing team in the SEC to me. They have a good roster, haven't been injured a bunch like Florida and brought in some good portal pieces. It makes no sense that they are 6-12 in SEC play and may miss the postseason. Lemonis may get fired.
  13. Texas State about to use their closer for multiple innings on a Tuesday and we aren’t even sure Volantis traveled
  14. Maybe Winfield is actually a pitcher? Can we find out tonight?
  15. No one can ever say Schloss doesn’t care about protecting arms because we could be winning this game like 8-4 if we used Bing even for like 2 innings.
  16. 100%. Dre especially has been through hell and back and has contributed a lot the last two years.
  17. You just saw McCreery’s last appearance as a Longhorn
  18. You could give these outfielders 100 tries and 99 of their throws would be off line to second base and the 1 good one would be against us.
  19. They may not even make the Sun Belt conference tournament.
  20. Well, we are throwing a guy in the 4th inning who has 5 innings all year. Meanwhile Texas State’s Friday night starter will be in momentarily.
  21. I fear this might be a schedule loss. Friday night starter will be warming up soon.
  22. We are coming up on two weeks for Mendoza's shoulder injury and he is still limited to only DH'ing? Hmmm. Not ideal.
  23. Gerry mentioned something interesting on YouTube today. He said Texas is shifting to recruiting Jalen Lott as a receiver first. He sat in on WR meetings during his last visit.
  24. They need to operate every series with the mindset of going all out to win the first two games. TBA every game 3 and push all your chips in the first 18 innings every weekend. We are already at 16 conference wins, even if we drop a series or two down the stretch, we have built up more than enough cushion from a hosting standpoint. Hell, a disaster 4-8 finish where we lose every series still gets us to 20 conference wins and a likely national seed. The only time you will need to win 3 games in 3 days is in a regional and if you can draw a very weak 4 seed you can manage that as a 2 game series as well. Everything else (regular season, super regional, CWS) can be managed by doing everything to win the first two games.
  25. Soreness is caused by something, whether inflammation, a tear, or whatever. You don't just leave a game with soreness as a pitcher and return in any reasonable amount of time. Whatever is causing the soreness has to be solved, whether by extended rest or surgery. We have a month until Hoover and 5 weeks before a regional. In the absolute best scenario (no structural damage), he probably isn't picking up a baseball for at least 2-3 weeks, then has to ramp back up to be ready to pitch in a game. That still puts a return this season very much in jeopardy. The fact that they are getting additional testing tells me it probably will not be a 'Rest for 2-3 weeks' type of injury.
