  1. Trying to compare the style Augie played to today is pretty useless because this era of baseball is completely different. Different bats, balls, fences have been moved in at the Disch, etc. The 2005 national title team hit 56 homers in 72 games. We had 112 in 60 games last year and 85 in 58 games this year. Hell, the 2011 Omaha team hit 17 home runs the whole damn season after they changed the bats.
  2. Flores isn’t transferring guys. He is just going to take his 200k from whatever MLB team thinks can fix him and move on.
  3. It has seemed to happen in a lot of the big series/games in recent years. LSU, A&M, etc. Opposing fans with premium seats right behind the plate. I’m pretty sure there are season ticket holders who haven’t been to a game in years and just cash in a profit selling on seatgeek. They cracked down on that in football a few years ago and need to do the same for baseball.
  4. Feel like I’m watching a basketball game at Allen Fieldhouse
  5. Can Little Rock let their nuts hang a little? Sac bunting with a 2 run deficit in the 8th and they were also sac bunting in the 4th inning when the score was 5-4.
  6. Tumis, Sam Richardson and Whitehead were removed from the online roster a short time ago.
  7. There were several times in that postgame presser last night where Schloss said we need to upgrade the talent level without actually directly saying the current team wasn't good enough. He referenced it in the question he got asked about HBP (basically said we don't have enough premium fastballs so we have to throw a ton of breaking balls) and again when he made a joke about it seeming like we were holding the bat by the barrel instead of the handle when trying to swing the last few weeks.
  8. Schloss said publicly he wasn’t going to leave his A&M staff out to dry. Not only Earley but also Will Fox (was in an off field role at A&M similar to what Tulo had here in 2023). Both were coming to Texas. So that didn’t really leave a role for Tulo. Once Earley left to go back and took Fox with him, the fit for Tulo became a lot cleaner. Schloss also kicked the tires on getting Tulo on his first A&M staff in the summer of 2021 when Tulo was still the volunteer assistant here. They’ve known each other for a while.
  9. Not specifically Texas related but Pete Nakos of On3 mentioned in an article about Brian O’Connor that Mississippi State is earmarking about $2 million in revenue sharing and an addition $1.5 million in outside NIL for baseball.
  10. It wouldn’t happen unless we struck portal gold or a bunch of arms took a huge leap, but how nice would be if they could move Volantis into a Kevin Kopps type role. Kopps threw 89 innings in 2021 with 11 saves and the game was basically over whether he entered in the 5th inning or the 9th. He was the Swiss Army knife. Bullpens are so fickle in college baseball. Having guys in the backend who can slam the door are a huge luxury.
  11. Yes, in the 2026 class. Not sure if the link is going to the right place but the 2025 class is what is coming in this fall.
  12. For those who want to get familiar with the incoming class https://www.perfectgame.org/college/CollegeCommitments.aspx?college=1829 Cunningham and Fien are gone. Pack, Crossland, Cozart and McKernan will be draft sweats.
  13. I don’t see Burns as a starter. His best role seems to be throwing 98 out of the bullpen. Jason Flores had a 2.78 ERA in 32.1 innings as a true freshman. Opposing hitters batted .205 against him. He ran out of gas towards the end of the year but I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect him to compete for a Sunday/midweek role next year. He has the stuff.
  14. Through all the frustration and anger, I have to somewhat laugh at the fact that the first two pitchers in our regional final game were Hudson Hamilton and Ethan Walker. Imagine telling someone that back in February. This game is so stupid and delivers so many unexpected turns. Imagine knowing before the season that Easton Winfield would have 1/3rd of his season hit total against Prairie View A&M, Will Mercer would pitch 2 games before getting hurt, Jalin Flores would hit under .200 in SEC play, Jonah Williams would have to start in LF because we had no one else, Max Belyeu would miss 2 months and Jared Spencer would be done for the year by mid April. I would have asked if we finished higher than 12th in the SEC standings. Doesn’t make tonight any easier to stomach, but yeah….
  15. They beat us 3 times in our own place. They were the better team. Frame it however you’d like to frame it.
  16. UTSA is the better team. We didn’t get beat by a team that got hot for a weekend or beat us with a bunch of bleeders and bloop hits. I don’t know if that makes it sting less or more but I hate that this weekend is going to be the taste left in our mouth when there was a lot of good this year. May be my last comment for a few days as I decompress from this but the simplest way to sum it up is this team just ran out of gas.
  17. I expect UTSA to fire all the bullets they reasonably can tonight. You do not want to play conservative and have it all come down to one game tomorrow.
  18. Not even top 50. Welcome to college baseball
  19. Any other game and Ruger is pulled 2 batters into that inning. Massive for him to give us 7 innings
  20. This crowd could be scary. And not in a good way.
  21. He must throw the straightest fastball of all time because I’ve never seen more comfortable swings against someone throwing 98 and it’s happened in several outings this year.
  22. We hit around the lefty yesterday I figured we would struggle with then couldn’t hit the righty with a 4.5.
  23. The decision to bunt Flores was also an atrocious coaching decision. I know he is in a bad spot but you have 2 sac bunts as a team all season and the guy hitting behind Flores is in just as bad of a funk as he is. If it was the bottom of the 9th to try to win the game, maybe I get it. But sac bunting to try to tie the game in the 6th inning? Schloss has made a lot of good moves this year but that was really, really bad.
  24. The season could end today. Volantis is available for a whole lot longer than just an inning. It was 35 relatively low stress pitches and he has been stretched out.
  25. Of course it’s all relative. LSU has one regular who hit lower than .236 in SEC play. We have 4, and 3 of them are multi-year starters.
