  1. Victimhood is strong in their identity, fear-based politics. Inject that victimhood into a person's media bubble and...
  2. Is this thread about why we currently have a hard left/right division in the country and reflected on this site? One component is the twitter, facebook, youtube algorithm media bubbles people are in. Solution: Take a hard look at your media consumption and make deliberate steps to diversify. There is the CR bubble and DT bubble on this site. We should probably understand that those two bubbles likely overlap with certain twitter networks and certain cable news networks. That guy that kept posting youtube videos as evidence of voter fraud some time back is an obvious example. Another component is the right side of the US politics has moved further right and adopted identity, fear-based politics. Solution: The GOP needs to lose political power in the US or they need to change. Probably underlying those two components are the reasons why a sizable percent of our population are susceptible to media bubbles, propaganda, along with identity/fear-based politics. Some describe this as a lack of education, critical thinking, self awareness, life experiences, or media understanding. Solution: Revamp and reinvest our education system so that something like this is less likely happen in 2040.
  3. Lulz you guys are like clockwork on this thing. Melted twitter brains convulsing to a 5 second cut from a speech
  4. Sadly, this is a non-serious answer.
  5. And how can we remove the 2nd amendment from the totality of the circumstances. The officer is working in the US. The US has a second amendment. The US has about 120 firearms for every 100 people. Every door an officer knocks on, every vehicle he pulls over has the potential to encounter an armed individual. If an officer is threatened by the presence of a firearm, they should move to Thailand or Canada where there are only about 15 firearms per 100 people or Japan where there are only about 0.06 firearms per 100 people. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Estimated_number_of_civilian_guns_per_capita_by_country If the presence of a firearm is threatening for any officer, especially when coupled with a lack of violent or threatening actions by the victim, then that officer should be working in another country. If an officer chooses to work in the US, they need to have some level of comfort with firearms. Their presence should not be deemed an automatic threat that justifies the use of deadly force.
  6. But running away is the opposite of a violent or threatening action. Turning around is not a violent or threatening action. Putting hands up is not a violent or threatening action. A person needs to be doing something violent or at least threatening to do violence before they are justifiably shot. The cop perceived he was being threatened, but he wasn't being threatened. The cop's perception was wrong. Turning around isn't a threatening action no matter what a cop perceived. If this cops training trained him to perceive the act of running away and the act of turning around as violent or threatening, his training was flawed. Killing someone who is not a threat is a bad shot, each and every time.
  7. But in order for there to be a "reasonable belief" and justification for shooting someone, shouldn't the victim at least need to be doing something violent or threatening to do violence? Running away is the opposite of a threatening action. Being armed shouldn't be justification to be killed - or does the 2nd amendment not exist?
  8. Shouldn't someone need to be doing something violent before getting shot, or at least, threatening to do violence? Even if he hadn't disarmed himself, what is wrong with being armed? Does the 2nd amendment exist or not?
  9. We should be striving for "rule of law" rather than "law and order."
  10. We should get rid of all of the telescopes, so we never have a problem with asteroids.
  11. Firearm violence is still firearm violence even it occurs at a bar or by POC
  12. What is wrong with this kid running around with a firearm? What is wrong with him or his friend firing off 8 rounds? What part of ‘shall not be infringed’ does that cop not understand?
  13. But you knew 4 weeks ago you can stop wearing a mask
  14. Wear a mask dipshit.
  15. And the whole reason a segment is resistance is because of Gym Jordan, his cronies, and folks like you that need to know NOW when you don’t have to wear a mask. This isn’t hard. Cowboy up. Wear a mask. Get vaccinated. Stop excusing Gym. Tell Gym to get fucked.
  16. Wear a mask. Get vaccinated. Tell your family to wear a mask and get vaccinated. Stop excusing Gym Jordan and right wing conspiracy theorists.
  17. Gym Jordan and Anastasis want to know NOW when they can stop wearing a mask!
  18. If this was true and Manafort and Stone really did collude with Russia, why didn’t Trump give them pardons? Checkmate libtards!
  19. Giving an identity (street groups, gang members, Chicago) to the others while assigning identies to ourselves (good guy with gun, lawful gunowner) help some put off the need for gun control since they can tell themselves it is someone else's problem. Our firearm problem in the US extends further than just shootings in cities. We also have mass shootings, shooting by suicide, and non-"street group" shootings. The idea that mass shooting events (the ones that are severe enough to make it to national media) only compose 2% of all firearm fatalities in the US is telling. Massachusetts is an example of a state that has taken firearm violence seriously and requires a license for possession. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_laws_in_Massachusetts
  20. We wouldn't need to take all of them. We would only need to decrease the number of firearms in our population (buy-back program, registration system), replace the firearms that serve little purpose to society with those that do serve a purpose (buy-back program, licenses based on need), and limit the possession of firearms (background checks, license, registration, training). The point isn't to get the risks from firearm violence in the US to zero. The point is to get the risk of firearm violence in the US so it is close to the level of other developed countries.
  21. Why was the Trump campaign giving internal polling data to a foreign national with links to Russian intelligence?
  22. Not enough thoughts and prayers
  23. Why is it foolish to call them insurrectionists?
  24. PBS Frontline's documentary on the insurrection. They piece things together between Charlottesville, proud boys, boogaloo, the military, the michigan governor kidnapping plot, MAGA, and the insurrection. A few notable interviews with extremists. Hopefully, no one here views them as anything more than duped traitors. https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/frontline/film/american-insurrection/
