  3. Sergeant Al Powell : Hey Roy, how you feeling? John McClane : Pretty fuckin' unappreciated, Al. AUSTIN, Texas — Meeting with the media on Monday for the first time in weeks, Texas Longhorns redshirt junior quarterback Quinn Ewers was asked to assess his performance this season. Ewers demurred. “I mean, we’re 9-1, I’m pretty excited about that,” Ewers said. As the national conversation surrounding the No. 3 Longhorns has focused on the team’s strength of schedule and lack of wins over top teams, a large portion of the Texas fan base has spent this week in varying stages of meltdown about Ewers throwing for just 172 yards on 32 pass attempts in the 20-10 win over Arkansas in Fayetteville. The discourse surrounding Ewers also prompted a question about whether he feels appreciated by Longhorns fans. “Do I feel appreciated? Yeah, I think so. They’re passionate, for sure, but yeah, feel good about it,” Ewers said. On Thursday, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian broke off from answering a question about what his quarterback is going through to send a message to the fanbase. “I tell this to all Longhorn Nation — we’re 9-1 for the second year in a row, we’re competing for a conference championship for the second year in a row. We’re competing for a spot in the College Football Playoff for the second year in a row. Don’t forget what the last decade looked like. Let’s just remember how good we’ve got it right now and appreciate this team for how good they’re playing right now,” Sarkisian said. How’s that for perspective?
  4. Yeah, Sark not adjusting better to that shit arky threw out there on defense really sucked. Guess having DeAndre getting injured early in that game was part of the problem.
  5. 6 rounds with that??? whoa 😎
  6. Here's video from above article ⬆⬆⬆ Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte talks innovation, fan loyalty, future of college athletics University of Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte was recently honored as the "Austinite of the Year" by the Austin Chamber of Commerce – a recognition he sees as a reflection of the institution and the city, rather than a personal accolade. In a wide-ranging interview with KVUE's Bryan Mays, Del Conte discussed his role, the athletic department's achievements and his vision for the fan experience at Texas sporting events.
  7. Thx for this @satyanash Scipio Tex on Arky game Linebacker If there’s a nit to pick with the defense, it’s at LB. All of them struggled with Arkansas doubling our playside bigs in front of them and filling the hole with authority. Even when they met the running back one or two yards into the hole, Arkansas runners added another 2-3 yards of drag. Slow triggering and not bringing enough when they got there. If you read my postmortems, that’s a persistent theme since ULM and Mississippi State. Lefau got caught in the wash too often and he wasn’t physical enough at the point of contact. He also flat out missed a couple of tackles coming late to the ball. Hill is still slow triggering when it’s coming right at him. As a counterpoint, I thought Hill was great in pass coverage against the talented Arkansas tight end and against the screen game. He’s a special athlete in space. Defensive Back Jahdae Barron was terrific. A nice example of football IQ. Barron sees that he’s accounted for on the blitz outside and also that we’ve got contain handled, so he works inside to where he knows Green will step up and notches the sack. He also has a nice heads up pick playing over the top on a well thrown seam route that a bad Arky receiver bobbled. Being around the ball results in good things and Texas had three defenders in close proximity to worry the receiver. #7 filled up the box score with 7 tackles, 2 tackles for loss (including a terrific 3rd and 3 backfield stop on a screen), a sack, two hurries (including on a 3rd and 10 on our 25) and the aforementioned interception. Barron was targeted 5 times in the passing game and surrendered only 19 yards on 3 catches. Great timing on a PBU playing through the ball that forced the official to pick up his flag. No defender – other than perhaps Collins – made more WOW plays on Saturday than Barron. He absolutely dominated. Both Jelani McDonald and Guilbeau had some struggles on the edge containing Taylen Green. 6-6 guys with legit acceleration and big strides move differently than you expect at field level. I think Texas fans have some sympathy for that. They combined for four missed tackles. Guilbeau also got hit for a 20 yard completion and a couple of short balls. Kobe Black got matched up with Andrew Armstrong on his six snaps and lost most of them. Armstrong hit him for 25 yards, Armstrong’s longest gain of the day. Manny Muhammad wasn’t physical enough in run support. Taaffe was very active from deep safety, notching 8 tackles, including a decent blitz reroute into a tackle for loss. #16 doesn’t get thrown at a lot, in part because he’s so good at anticipating routes and cutting off the option before it materializes. Mukuba had a clutch tackle for loss on a Green keeper.

  10. Thx for this @satyanash Scipio Tex on Arky game Defensive Line Alfred Collins has spent the last few games making himself a lot of money. The big athletic DT had 7 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, a sack and a critical forced fumble. That sack came against a double team. The hustle and athletic coordination on display there is not normal for a 320 pound man. He’s didn’t happen to hit the ball. That was pure hand-eye coordination. I thought Sorrell played well in real time but he shined even more on rewatch. 7 tackles, a sack, a big QB hit and couple of hurries. Beautiful tackle for loss on an Arkansas stretch play. He also drew a hold. Trey Moore finally notched an official sack and drew a big holding call. Great hustle. He’s had three consecutive strong weeks of play. Collin Simmons was extremely disruptive when allowed to pin his ears back and go. 2 sacks, both on Arkansas’ weak link right tackle. He had a couple of bad run defense snaps and Arkansas did a good job of getting big bodies on our edges in the second half. Vernon Broughton was solid inside and had a big hit on Green’s legs as he released an errant ball. Lole gave us good snaps, but Arkansas doubled incessantly and their OL, while untalented, is physical. If there’s a deficiency on our interior DL right now, it’s that we don’t have a fourth interior guy that we really trust.

  12. Lane Kiffin texted a rival conference coach:Go play at 100 Sanford Drive and tell me your league is best Ole Miss head coach emphasizes strength, difficulty of life in the SEC John Brice 3 minutes ago There are five Southeastern Conference teams in the top-11 of the latest College Football Playoff rankings, and four of them are poised to be safely in the inaugural field of 12. Tennessee, despite being the No. 11 team this week, is outside the field as of now due to Boise State at No. 12 and BYU, the Big 12's top-rated team, at No. 14. Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin, his team needing to secure a road win this week at Florida and cap the regular season with a win against in-state rival Mississippi State to virtually cement its CFP bid, is joining the chorus of stumping for SEC superiority -- while also revealing a hilarious, pointed message sent to the head coach in a rival conference. "Well, I said it earlier: when people want to talk about other conferences or playoffs, or coaches make a statement about their conferences ... conference bias ... it’s very different going on the road in this conference," Kiffin said on Wednesday's SEC coaches' Zoom. "Joking, I sent a text and said to one of these other coaches, he made a statement [about their conference being the best in college football], and I said, 'Try going to 100 Sanford Drive (home of the Georgia Bulldogs) and see if you still say that. "It’s different." In fact, Kiffin explains, his team's open date this past weekend is additional evidence of SEC superiority. "Kirby (Smart) has made mention, the SEC is different. I aint’ saying that cause I’m here," Kiffin emphasized. "It ain’t rocket science when you watch football. During our bye week, I watched football in other conferences. The SEC is different. Playing in the SEC environments is different than a lot of places those guy play. "It's hard to go on the road in this conference, which always has the most NFL players, and win. It's very much like the NFL, playing in the SEC." The additions this year of both Oklahoma and Texas also leave Kiffin believing the SEC needs to stick at just eight intraconference games -- particularly as perhaps one or more SEC team is facing the very real possibility of missing an CFP invite. "To add another conference game to it, I understand money is involved and you gotta make those decisions, I don’t know that that’s in the best interest of programs to play another game and beat each other up," Kiffin said. Do his coaching brethren in the SEC agree? "I don’t know that; the ones I talk to think that," Kiffin added. "I think that’s changed, years ago we were OK going to nine (conference games), but with the Playoffs in terms of knocking each other out and other conferences and who they get to play, I think it’s probably changed that."

  14. More wailing on 105 roster limit settlement... Swinney's former defensive coordinator spoke on coming to the same realization on Tuesday as well, calling the upcoming cuts "carnage." The oncoming House v. NCAA settlement will result in more money for most college football players, but less opportunity for others. As part of the settlement, the NCAA will place a hard cap of 105 players on the roster, all of whom will be eligible for a scholarship. But just about every FBS team has more than 105 players already on the roster, and would continue to do so if not for the House settlement. With Signing Day set for Dec. 4 and the transfer portal set to open Dec. 9, plans are being made for who will be on each roster beginning in 2025... and just how many current players will no longer have a spot. https://footballscoop.com/news/dabo-swinney-calls-this-coming-rule-change-the-worst-thing-in-my-whole-coaching-career
