  1. A dear friend of mine suffers from various heart ailments and has lost immediate family to cancer. My friend literally has to mute these ads to endure network TV. Bumpuses! Sonsabitches! And don’t get me started on fuckin Prevagen. Another friend, this one 80-plus and shut-in, with TV her only source of entertainment, felt that her memory was slipping. Saw Prevagen ads, thought, “Maybe it will help me.” Got an Rx and began taking Prevagen. Started having major hallucinations; saw scary creatures coming in her windows, appearing in and emerging from mirrors, climbing over furniture, all relentlessly coming after her. She fell trying to get away, ended up concussed with broken ribs, ER, long rehab, ultimately to reside in a piss poor assisted living barn. Bastages!
  2. My favorite line, Ramius on PA to crew, delivered as only Sean Connery could, promised a wing-doozie rest of film after a fine opening act; ”Tonight . . . we shale intah hishtoddeh!”
  3. Fuck all pharmaceutical product ads. If cigarette ads are taboo, these certainly should be. They are video pollution of the worst sort and impair the health of the viewer. If I need meds I’ll get an Rx. I’m sick of hearing all the disclaimer language. Shit, where’s my Xanax?
  4. Mr. Ambassador? You’ve lost another submarine?!
  5. Big casting miss: Keanu Reeves as protagonist Victorian Brit lawyer Jonathan Harker in Bram Stoker’s Dracula, opposite acting genius Gary Oldman. Dialect coach Hell, that one.
  6. In a small role, Hoffman eclipsed everyone else in Cold Mountain, a pretty good film. I even liked the way he flagged the late arriving “enemy” storm chasers in Twister like a deranged 3rd base coach windmilling his arm, signaling a baserunner to take home: “LOser! LOser! LOser”
  7. Dud yiu hear Feancesca say, “And there’s whatever you took with you.” Exactly how much? Enough to get out and get away, far away? Ffwd two weeks to the finale, the last scene: Open with a zoom. We see Jimmy from directly overhead through the blades of a slow ceiling fan. He is lying on his back in bed in a dimly lit room with a serene look on his face, the sounds of surf crashing from the open lanai. He turns to his left side and clicks on a bedside lamp. From Jimmy’s right but off camera, a taut but nicely tanned slender arm frosted with tiny blonde hairs reaches across his chest and clicks the light off. Jimmy: “I told you it would all work out.” Fade to black. Sound of a kiss. Roll credits. True love conquers all. Ah, but how do we get to there from here? Fuck if I know.
  8. Yep and I also forgot Door to Door, another goodie. Macy as a courageous, disabled dtd salesman.
  9. A couple of real actors: Steve Buscemi and William H. Macy. BUSCEMI Best: Fargo Worst: __________? Meh: __________? Cool turns: Sopranos; Boardwalk Empire; Con Air; Reservour Dogs Gems: Ghost World; the Ghost of Stalin MACY Fargo; Name? Mystery Men; The Cooler; State and Main; several I’m leaving out.
  10. Ditto on Out of Sight. Add Elmore Leonard characters and storyline to any pitch and pure alchemy is the product.
  11. If you haven't seen it, Rambling Rose is vintage Duvall at his finest. And some nice Laura Dern vignettes to boot. Also, use of the term "Epizootics" to describe any debilitating illness. See also @ 3:09 below: "Girl strikes like a cobra!"
  12. I’se figna vom- BWAAARRRUACH! too late
  13. Duly noted. I guess SI was quoting Coach. I learn something new every day!
  14. So the Nippy episode was set in 2010 because Martinez was a freshman, right? The Cinnabon loving guard said so, anyway. And B, didn’t Kim grow up in Omaha? Well, there you go. I’m tellin ya, we ain’t seen the last of Kim. Oh pleez, pleez.
  15. <<{{[[xxX**Xxx]]}}>> A Blue Max of college football trivia to you, sir, for evoking a letter-perfect quote from Sports Illustrated’s vivid and most apt description of Darren McFadden’s explosive and victorious freshman performance, in Tuscaloosa, no less, vs my beloved Crimson Tide. If Bijan plays half as well on September 10th, we are in big trouble.
  16. A year ago Bama had four actual road games. Results were underwhelming and caused significant angina. Snatching one from the Philistines was nice but given they had a crippled yeoman transfer at QB, not so impressive until you consider the deafening negative hoodoo of that accursed hive of iniquity and our must-have leggy of field TD drive to get to OT. The first ever Crimson Tide entry into DKR should be a real snot-knocker if we hold up our end. 2021 road record: @Swamp: W 31-29 @Aggy: L 38-41 @Leachville: W 49-9 @Aubie: W 24-22 (4OT)
  17. Point taken. I’m old as dirt but I remember when it was rare for an untelevised game to last more than 2 1/2 hours from kickoff to end, even less if the opponent didn’t bring their band. My father and I could go hunting or fishing, drive 90 minutes in bumper traffic on a two-land to a 2:00 game in Birmingham, tailgate, walk to the stadium, watch the game and be back at home in time to listen to most of an LSU game on WWL before I got chased off to bed. Of course back then there were only a couple of TV games per Saturday, sometimes only one. I enjoy today’s breakfast to midnight football on TV. But I gotta say, remembering those golden fall Saturdays makes this old man smile. Hook ‘em Horns and Roll Tide.
  18. Final was 20-7. Bo Jackson got 35 yards total. No sound was heard on the Plains but the mirthless laughter of the damned.
  19. Exactly. Innovate while still bringing us the actual plays, i.e.: Less replays of routine stuff and more local, ah, “color;” Less noisy CGI logo orgasms and such merde; and Never, never ever ever fucking NEVER make us miss a new play while you are showing a replay. Now bring it on.
  20. Fuckin autocorrect - Auburn “fambleh”
  21. No petty. Since Nick Saban arrived, and continuing through a couple of 10,000 seat expansions, visitor seating at Bryant-Denny starts at Row 1 in the NE corner of the lower bowl, extending out to about the 20 yard line and all way up. Band, cheerleaders, fans, errbody. I wish the whole visiting team band could be seated but in recent years smaller “road game” bands have been the norm. In the early 80s on the Plains in game 1 of that year the Horns had the Auburn “gambler” intimidated before the game ever started when the full UT band took about an hour just to march in, clanking the cowbells. Texas beat the crap out of them but I can’t remember the score. I loved it.
  22. First thing Spurrier did at UF was rip out the rug and put down real grass. Substantial success soon followed. Does any player prefer the best artificial turf to real grass? I’ve never heard or read one say this. What’s the “carnival?” Chaps babes are real assssets though!
  23. I for one very much enjoyed Kim walking away . . . down the courtroom corridor after she informed the judge she was all the way out, notified the bar, et veterans. By God, her ass was twitching. Hope she has a save the day cameo before Saul rings down the curtain.
  24. All prison sentences of death or life without possibility of parole should be read out in Gus Fring’s voice and cadence. Pure, dispassionate ice. His rant over Lalo’s phone to old man “Ding-ding” Scalamanca is the only time I’ve heard him raise his voice since the nursing home scene on Breaking Bad, and it was a ruse to distract Lalo. One cool, calculating madrepincher.
