I like it but I'd sub ignorance for arrogance.
I also don't bother defending him most of the time. He doesn't need my protection. He has legions of fans and legions of haters already. There was a stretch where I really wasn't a big fan of his and kind of only liked him/cheered for him because we were SMU contemporaries. It felt like a chore at points to put up with his bullshit.
The past couple years I think he has matured quite a bit and it helps that he's played a ton of badass golf. He still does stuff I don't like but overall I'm proud that he went to SMU. SMU isn't Texas - it's not overflowing with celebrity alums and big-time professional athletes - it's a really big deal to have a guy like him not only win a national title but then go on to have serious professional success and stay in touch with his roots and rep the school.
TCU doesn't have anyone like Bryson, for example. Baylor doesn't have anyone like Bryson. Rice doesn't have anyone like Bryson.
It's cool. And it's fun. Rory was my favorite player for a long time but Bryson overtook him sometime in the last year for me.
