UT's next basketball coach - discussion/debate [Sean Miller Hired]
closetojumping replied to alphahorn's topic in Basketball
Worked up? You’ve been bawling with volume all over this thread for days on end. It might be funny if it wasn’t such a bandwidth drain to the readers. My bet offer still stands. I already explained why you’re a crybaby dum dum about NIL and your last post is just more ignorant, tiny-handed fist-pounding.- 7585 replies

UT's next basketball coach - discussion/debate [Sean Miller Hired]

Let’s place a bet. You bet on your stupid fucking position that Texas won’t be top 15 in basketball NIL and that I don’t know anything about what is happening for NIL. I will bet that you are a shitposting clown with no connections to the process. Accordingly, Texas will level up as needed to be a top program on NIL for basketball, along with every other sport. Which ever one of us is wrong will agree to a permaban from immamac and the other will continue as normal.- 7585 replies

UT's next basketball coach - discussion/debate [Sean Miller Hired]

The thing with NIL and Terry is that he chose the socialist approach in 2023-2024 and the capitalist approach in 2024-2025 (no CR, just the easiest way to frame it). Neither made a ton of sense in either cycle. Then, the guy was a terrible money raiser with the backers. He was uninspiring and lacked charisma. Guys who often say “yes” said “not right now”. It wasn’t like Texas was a have-not, but very much not a big time “have” with him at the helm. The update on NIL from Gerry is tempered with his own skepticism of the actual NIL talk right now. I’m not going to say that anyone is energized by Miller, because I simply do not know yet. What I do know is that the committed floor is the range Gerry quoted. If Miller comes in and shows that he can put together a final four-esque team quickly, the support is there. -

The one guy is apparently a powerlifter, so of course Liucci watched his words. I like how Liucci denies influencing national media when he constantly uses his Texags platform to bring national guys on and then goes onto theirs and aggressively pushes ATM in every sport, every cycle. -

BO&W entertains me with his stupidity and sometimes he’ll link to, or C&P, something worthwhile, so I don’t have him on ignore. That said, he’s a title-ist imbecile and a general know-nothing, so when he’s vomiting on coaching search threads, I just scroll past every one of his posts without reading. It works quite well. -

I agree that the Texags baseball and basketball forums are fucking awesome right now. -there are a couple of threads on the baseball board that were started during or just after their first loss to Vanderbilt. They start rationalizing how to turn things around, starting with a win or two in the next two versus Vandy. The progression of each thread gets more and more hilarious. -there’s a poster sunshine-pumping about this being a great season for basketball and thanking Buzz Williams. At first, some aggies call the guy out as a troll and I was inclined to buy that. Then, the poster returns and proceeds to ardently defend both the season and BW as successes, and measures each against the arbitrary last 25 years. It’s awesome. -a common thought pervasive on both 247 and Texags about the tournament loss is that Michigan was horrifically “underseeded “. These losers make this argument every fucking year in which they lose to a lower seed. They made it about Penn State two years ago. That thinking is one of best insights into the overall aggie mentality and why they’re never going to win anything. “If only a shittier team was placed in that spot, then our higher ranked team would have actually done something. “ Right. -the baseball posters are starting to work in some thinking that, what they really need to do, is go even further over the top with NIL. They need random boosters to pay a $3M buyout to a guy that would have taken the job without a buyout provision. Then, after spending more money on NIL in baseball than any team has ever spent (including LSU in 2023), they need random boosters to enthusiastically double-down and buy all of the quality in the portal and in recruiting to help the unnamed new-new HC win the national title in 2026. Never mind that a bunch of their current roster was deemed worthy of massive NIL and will be transferring after the season to contenders. Sadly for these idiots, the word on the NIL front for baseball is that the boosters involved did it as a one-time thing to avoid the humiliation of a roster collapse and to “show Schlossnagle who runs the show.” LOL. -

Black dudes have to tan? I’ve lived my whole life not knowing that. What I’ve passed on is that he expressed interest and there were talks with a third party of some sort. Everyone is basically denying that these days, moving it to “Few said ‘no’” last time, which is new. -

Texas A&M Recruiting 2026: The World's Drunkest Elk

First spring practice update. It's both funny and sad. Highlights and then article in spoilers: -Elko remains fully butt-clenched with reporters in terms of anything they can actually report. Reading between the lines, there also continues to be conveyed a sense of pravda-level oversight in terms of even the comments the writers can make about the team as they watch practice. -Marcel Reed already looks way better, while throwing against no defense. -The Zeno guy continues to be touted as an amazing back-up at QB. -Concepcion is going to catch 110 passes for 800 yards. -Some no one named Bethel-Roman isn't good enough to crack the starting line-up at WR, but boy, he's someone to watch out for, I'm telling ya. -Moss and Daniels are out for the spring. Reuben Owens is dutifully following the Elko S&C requirements of gaining as much weight as possible during the offseason. He's trending towards legitimate fatass at TB per eyewitness accounts. Karels spins it well here. -The TEs are all 6'5" and over 250 except Niblack. They're all slower than molasses and can't block or catch for shit. -The OLs looked super impressive while standing around and doing nothing while the press was present.- 275 replies

I expected that. This surly, after all. -
I used two 2 seeds that I do not trust deeper into the tournament - Tennessee and Bama. Bama almost killed me today. I'm pretty surprised that I'm the only one that has picked either. Last year, I feel like a bunch of us got killed trying to get cute with lower seeds while there were still 1's and 2's in our hip pockets. I'm hoping to see that happen this time around too, I guess.

You enjoy being pedantic, so whining about phrasing is something you get off on, and we all get it. Mark up the article and mail those guys your edits. In reality, Gerry and Bobby both know damned every agent out there, including Sexton, and a bunch of CBB coaches, to boot. Burton can also pick up the phone and talk to just about any major booster or AD employee he wants at Texas. I feel like their articles provide data points for some readers of this thread, accordingly. Maybe CDC plays this one characteristically close to the vest and whoever he hires is a surprise to us all. That's a decent bet. So, sure, do what you want. I'll pass on the egregiously erroneous articles from OTF when I have time, nonetheless.- 7585 replies

Gerry/Bobby candidate info: Friday AM Update: Texas basketball and Rodney Terry The Texas basketball staff is business as usual, as of late last night. The staff is scheduled to have meetings this morning with portal recruiting and high school recruiting the No. 1 topic. Obviously, everyone and anyone around the program knows and understands what is going on. The Longhorns are currently in the final two for 5-star power forward Koa Peat (Gilbert, Az./Perry) along with Arizona State. The decision is considered a toss up right now. He is the younger brother of NFL offensive tackle Andrus Peat. Andrus Peat chose Stanford over Texas, USC and others coming out of high school as a 5-star recruit. Terry's future at Texas ... Nothing has changed on our end at OTF. We continue to believe that Terry has coached his last game at Texas. There is a lot of timing with the movement, as Bobby Burton wrote yesterday. "But first and foremost is the modus operandi of Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte and the timing of how he fires and hires coaches. For example, consider the timing of CDC's hirings of the two highest profile coaches at Texas - Steve Sarkisian and Jim Schlossnagle. Tom Herman was officially fired on Jan. 2, 2021. Steve Sarkisian was hired later that same day, on Jan. 2, 2021. As for Schlossnagle, previous Texas baseball coach David Pierce was informed he would not be retained on June 24, 2024. Just one day later, Schlossnagle was hired, on June 25. In other words, during high-profile hirings, Del Conte's m.o. is crystal clear. He likes to do things cleanly, moving from one head coach to another with immediacy. As one source put it, CDC and Texas do not want to do anything considered merely "patchwork". They want a replacement ready to go prior to releasing the other head coach." The Texas brass is well into the process of vetting candidates. Some notes on names of interest ... OnTexasFootball believes Sean Miller and Tommy Lloyd are legitimate names to know. Those are not the only legit names to know. Sean Miller's agent is Jimmy Sexton. Tommy Lloyd's agent is also the agent of Rodney Terry. Lloyd has a nine million dollar buyout. Names such as Doug McDermott, Todd Golden, Ryan Odom (VCU), Mick Cronin and 2-3 others have been vetted on some level. Also, yes, some unicorns have been too - but they aren't truly realistic at this point. In the last go round prior to Rodney Terry's hiring, contact was made with the agents of Mark Few, Billy Donovan and Quin Snyder. All said no at the time. Asked a college basketball coaching source about potential fits at Texas ... On Sean Miller, "Terrific coach. Has the type of offensive system Texas needs. Would win at Texas. Understands demands of big time job." On Tommy Lloyd, "Great offensive system. Very impressive recruiting strategy. His assistant Jack Murphy, and Tommy are a strong combo in international recruiting. Would be a good fit at Texas." I asked the college coach about Bill Self for fun. "He would be an amazing fit at Texas. Would crush it. No question." To be clear, OTF is not saying Self is a realistic possibility. To be clear, OnTexasFootball is not saying the next Texas coach is one of these three. -

Hank South wrote a good summary on Sarkisian's coaching changes this spring, including the QB assistant coach/analyst he hired yesterday. I've spoilered the rich text version, which has links to the profiles and such for each coach. Plain text below for everyone else not so inclined. ***** Texas expected to hire Chicago Bears QB coach Kerry Joseph to staff Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian is making another staff move this offseason ahead of the Longhorns' March 25th spring football start date, hiring Chicago Bears quarterback coach Kerry Joseph. Hank South18 hrs14 Texas is expected to hire Chicago Bears quarterback coach Kerry Joseph, according to 247Sports' Matt Zenitz. Joseph, who has coached in college football as well as the NFL, helped develop 2024 No. 1 overall NFL Draft pick Caleb Williams as a rookie last year, when Williams passed for 3,541 yards and 20 touchdowns. Joseph has worked in the NFL with the Seattle Seahawks as an offensive assistant (2020-23) and served as a coaching intern with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2017 and with the New Orleans Saints in 2014. Joseph's college coaching stints have included Southeastern Louisiana (2019) as passing game coordinator and running backs coach and McNeese State - Joseph's alma mater - in 2018 as interim head coach, offensive coordinator/QB coach. A native of New Iberia, La., Joseph played quarterback at McNeese State, where he helped lead the program to a 42-11 record and two Southland Conference championships before playing professionally in both the NFL and Canadian Football League from 1996-2014. Joseph was a safety with the Seattle Seahawks from 1999-2001 and returned to playing quarterback in the CFL from 2003-14, including winning a Grey Cup title with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2007. Joseph is the latest offseason staff addition at Texas as coach Steve Sarkisian has looked to bolster the Longhorns' on- and off-the-field football staff. Chad Scott, the offensive coordinator/running backs coach at West Virginia under Neal Brown, has replaced Tashard Choice, who joined the staff of the Detroit Lions. Neal Brown, who called the offensive plays at WVU before getting let go after last season, has also joined Texas' staff as an analyst and will be allowed to coach on the field. Duane Akina, who helped develop 15 defensive backs into NFL Draft picks while at Texas from 2001-13, and Rutgers cornerbacks coach Mark Orphey (pronounced OR-fay) have replaced defensive passing game coordinator/secondary coach Terry Joseph, who joined the New Orleans Saints' staff and safeties coach Blake Gideon, who became the new defensive coordinator at Georgia Tech. Sarkisian added Ohio State assistant LaAllan Clark to coach defensive ends, a job held by defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski the past four seasons. Jason McEndoo, who coached tight ends and fullbacks at Oklahoma State last year, has been hired as an analyst, and McEndoo is assisting tight ends coach and special teams coordinator Jeff Banks. Also on the offensive side of the ball, Sarkisian promoted analyst Mike Bimonte to passing game coordinator and assistant quarterbacks coach after Bimonte got offers to leave. Sarkisian has also promoted Keynodo Hudson from a staff analyst position to coaching the team's nickel cornerbacks. Last week, Sarkisian addressed many of the offseason personnel moves. "We're really pumped about all these guys," Sarkisian said. "And then we really tried to beef up our support staff and our recruiting staff. We brought in Errin Joe, director of scouting. We brought in Josh Dunson, senior player personnel coordinator, and then we promoted a couple people from within in Tanner Martin, scouting coordinator and Jordan Mitchell, a recruiting and retention strategist. "So again, all the credit in the world to these guys for the job that they've done from within, but also bringing these guys in. We appreciate the support our administration has given us, that CDC [Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte] has given us, to make these moves and to do these things and to expand in a way that I think is healthy for our program given the state of college football and where we're headed."

I remember when Jackson Arnold was the truth and we were going to get to know it. Also, Burks was a revelation who was going to be next great 1st round WR out of OU. That feels like years ago, man. Or 8 months ago, whatever.

The $10M project is likely a $9.9M project for future reference on these kinds of things that might pop up again for any of the sports. CDC doesn't have to get BoR approval for projects below $10M. There've been a few $9.9M projects already and the concessions area is likely another. -
Posters on Sooners Illustrated aren't big fans of Joe Jon Finley as the TE coach. They have a thread right now talking about how former highly rated TE prospect Davon Mitchell is now clocking in at 275. He's "shaping up to be more of a blocking TE", per some of their sunshine pumpers. "He's only 18!" "He'll lose it by the summer time!" "He's really carrying it well!" Schmidt and JJF have a history of swelling their TEs up to unhelpful sizes, per some of the haters there. I haven't tried to verify further. I found the spoilered post below to be both insightful and hilarious (as a Texas fan). Kanak at TE cracks me up. The hagiographic tale of his turn from solid Clemson commit to OU signee, tearfully apologizing to Coach Dabo for having to go with his heart and begging Coach Vegetables to take his top 100 ranking and let him sign with his first class in a painful act of betrayal to Coach Dabo for both of them - what a guy. Whispers of "Coach BV's next great All American LB" could be heard on Norman podcasts and in coach/booster gatherings. Now? 7th string TE. hahahahahaha @Constant @Pdawg88 @kilroydos and any sooner I am forgetting, what are y'all's thought about JJF and the TE position at OU right now?

Burton has direct access to the money that is going to be relied upon for getting something done. I don't think any of the other guys do. If he starts getting certain about anything, that's probably good information.
