CJ Nuggets on the Recruiting Visitors from Saturday's Practice *** OT John Turntine – Crowley (Texas) North Crowley Turntine was all smiles leaving the facility Saturday afternoon. The five-star prospect has been to Texas plenty of times and spoke about the familiarity of the program and relationship with Kyle Flood. Turntine also mentioned seeing Nick Brooks going out and competing for playing time immediately as an early enrollee as a positive takeaway. The big movement with Turntine is he essentially named a top three of Michigan, Texas A&M and the Longhorns. LB Xavier Griffin – Gainesville (Ga.) High – USC Commit The five-star USC commit arrived in Austin on Friday and was able to experience a full two-day visit with Johnny Nansen and the rest of the Texas staff. One nugget I can share is Griffin and LaAllen Clark posed for a picture outside of Moncrief following his trip in which he threw up the USC Victory 'V' handsign which Clark had a humorous reaction to, saying he wasn't going to let that fly at Texas. Still, a positive note for Texas that he was able to see the campus for two full days. DB Yaheim Riley – Austin (Texas) Anderson HS The first offer of nickels coach Keynodo Hudson arrived on campus quietly, but departed with a full escort by the Texas defensive backs coaching staff. Mark Orphey, Keynodo Hudson and Duane Akina each walked Riley out of the door to his car to conclude his trip. Since then, Riley has re-opened his recruitment after previously being committed to Houston since December. Texas should be considered the heavy favorite at the moment. LB Kosi Okpala – Houston (Texas) Mayde Creek Two visits in three weeks. Should speak for itself. However, Okpala mentioned Penn State is still a school he wants to get out and see, as well as Alabama. Okpala said he wants to make a decision in July after his official visits, but it should be noted that the Longhorns are in a terrific spot for the star linebacker. EDGE Dre Quinn – Norcross (Ga.) Greater Atlanta Christian School HS The 6-foot-4-inch edge rusher arrived in Austin with five official visits on the June schedule, and left with six. Quinn will be back in Austin for an official visit the weekend of June 13-15 he told OnTexasFootball after the visit. Our @Gerry Hamilton added a nugget this morning on Quinn as well, there is a likely chance Texas is heavily considered before any decision is made. CB Hayward Howard Jr. – New Orleans (La.) Edna Karr HS Howard stuck around in Austin Saturday night before heading back to New Orleans Sunday. The Longhorns got the sign of approval from the family on the trip as well. LSU offered within the last week and you know how difficult it is to win out for prospects from New Orleans if LSU is heavily involved. But nonetheless, Texas is going to be in the thick of things for the 6-2 cornerback. Really strong weekend here. Howard will be back June 5–7 for an OV. CB Samari Matthews – Cornelius (NC) Hough HS Texas CB coach Mark Orphey is making a very strong run at Matthews who is sticking around until Monday in Austin. Matthews told OTF after the trip he and his family were going to check out the city with dinner and some shopping in what is shaping up to be a mock-OV in a way. Matthews said he was able to chop it up with Dia Bell and Chace Calicut on the trip after playing some 7v7 against the two earlier this spring. EDGE Jamarion Carlton – Temple (Texas) High Carlton was not present for the practice portion of the visit weekend and even joked afterwards that Steve Sarkisian told him he was worried he was not going to make it in. However, he did get in to Austin and was able to meet with Sarkisian and LaAllen Clark in person. Still, no official visit set for the Horns for the Temple edge rusher. DB Chace Calicut – Houston (Texas) North Shore HS A return to Austin left with the positive remarks for the Horns from Calicut. Right now, Texas and Michigan are leading way in this one. Washington also has an official visit set currently. Calicut told OTF he had a strong relationship with Duane Akina when he was at Arizona and that the connection with Mark Orphey, a former North Shore Mustang himself, helped build on another positive trip to Austin. Texas is in a really nice spot here. WR Mason James – Norman (Ok.) North HS Not often do you see an elite target out of Norman visit the Texas Longhorns, yet here was James on campus for the weekend. James mentioned Daylan McCutcheon specifically as someone he was watching during the practice, as that DeAndre Moore/McCutcheon role in the offense is where he is being recruited to play. One other nugget he saw was that Texas is turning into "wide receiver university" with their recent run in the NFL Draft. James is working on an OV, either June 13 or June 20. DL Bryce Perry-Wright – Buford (Ga.) High A return to campus is a good sign for the Longhorns here. Texas has been in the mix for Perry-Wright for quite a while, a big positive in the recruitment for the Peach State defensive lineman as he continues his tour of visits across the country. Right now, official visits are set for Clemson, Auburn, Miami, Texas A&M and Texas (June 13). A source about a month ago indicated that Texas A&M was the team to keep a really close eye on in this one.

Texas Offseason 2025 - Archmania Is Upon Us

Bobby If you didn't catch Jeff and CJ's post-scrimmage report yesterday afternoon, you missed some interesting news. Derrick Williams, Ryan Wingo and DeAndre Moore all suited out and participated to some degree. It was especially encouraging to see Williams back on the field given his return from ACL surgery during the season. It should be mentioned that none of the players were "full go" but they were dressed out. Additionally, Zina Umeozulu is sidelined still with the thumb injury that is still healing from surgery. He's dressed out but can't go through all drills or scrimmage. ** Offensive lineman Nick Brooks was ranked by industry experts as the No. 17 pledge among a class of 25 prospects in the Texas 2025 recruiting class. Based on everything we're hearing, you can throw that ranking out the window. Brooks has been a consistent, high-level performer from day one of spring camp. I asked someone what makes the true freshman from Georgia so different and the response was straight-forward. "You watch him and it's obvious. He's huge. Naturally powerful. A surprising mover. And he practices right." ** Arch Manning continues to have a strong spring, according to multiple sources. But overall the offense has been up and down, which is to be expected. After all, it's not like the Texas defense is Swiss cheese. We continue to be told that Manning is pushing the ball downfield and over the middle on a consistent basis. Parker Livingstone and Daylan McCutcheon have been the receivers most relied upon at this point. Trey Owens, we're told, also had a good scrimmage yesterday. ** As CJ and Jeff reported yesterday, it's hard to talk with someone about Texas football and not hear the name of Colin Simmons after folks watch a Longhorn practice, especially those who are visiting, like recruits, parents or high school coaches. Word of caution to opponents: do not expect a sophomore slump from Simmons. He's only getting better from what we've been told. -

Bobby Burton I'm hearing that the visit of Stanford receiver Emmett Mosley V has gone really well. Texas has put themselves in a good position to land him. But another team is still hanging around, and that's USC. Emmett's younger brother Trey is committed to the Trojans, and Emmett attended high school at Santa Margarita Catholic in Southern California. The Trojans, however, have a much different set of circumstances at receiver than the Longhorns. USC returns three of their top four receivers from a year ago. They also don't have Arch Manning at QB who is set for a two-year run at the position that matches with Mosley's timeline as a rising sophomore. Texas is heavily involved here. We'll see if the Horns can get it over the finish line. Virginia also received a visit but they seem to be in the second tier of consideration. -

CJ Vogel Moderators 9.2k Moderators Posted 57 minutes ago Breaking Down Nuggets from Saturday's Practice Practice No. 9 is in the books for the Longhorns. There was a live portion of practice which featured multiple live possessions for the first, second and third teams. All in all, it sounds like the defense held a slight edge over the offense on Saturday. Some notes: *** Offense • It was a very solid day for Arch Manning. That continues to be the theme for the Texas quarterback. One of the first words I got back about QB Trey Owens was actually about his legs. I wasn't told specifically if it was a read keeper or a scramble, but the word I got back is Owens got loose for about a 10-yard run very early on in the live session. Perhaps an underrated piece of his game. For freshman QB KJ Lacey, the youngster had some bright moments getting the ball out quick. He was under pressure a good bit, but there was • Arch found freshman WR Daylan McCutcheon on a quick hitch over the middle that resulted in the early enrollee showing some wiggle after the catch for a nice gain. McCutcheon was singled out by several recruits as well after the practice, including Norman (Ok.) WR Mason James. • Despite being low on tight end bodies, Texas was still deploying some 12 personnel – Spencer Shannon and Emaree Winston were the two on the field together. • First Team OL LT – Trevor Goosby LG – Neto Umeozulu C – Cole Hutson RG – DJ Campbell RT – Brandon Baker Second Team OL LT – Nick Brooks LG – Nate Kibble C – Connor Robertson RG – Jaydon Chatman RT – Andre Cojoe Third Team OL Connor Stroh and Jackson Christian manned the guard positions. Daniel Cruz was at center. *** Defense • I am told the Texas front seven had a strong showing in short-yardage situations. They weren't perfect, but the defensive front had solid resistance against the first team offense, including a two-play stuffing to half a drive right outside the red zone. EDGE Ethan Burke had a great swim to help create a tackle for loss on one of those short-distance downs. Transfer DL Travis Shaw and Hero Kanu each saw plenty of first team run next to Alex January. One source indicated there was a concerted effort to bat balls at the line of scrimmage on Saturday. Whether instinctive of an emphasis of Kenny Baker, plenty of hands were in the lanes of quarterbacks. One play in particular from Ty'Anthony Smith forced a field goal on 3rd down. • Freshman DL Justus Terry would have had a sack on KJ Lacey after beating a third-team guard. Terry was seeing time at 3-tech during the scrimmage, and despite weighing just 265 pounds, he was able to hold his own. There was also some snaps off the edge as well. • Second year CB Kobe Black was singled out after practice as someone that had a very solid day. Texas is continuing to find the ultimate pairing with Malik Muhammad on one side of the ball. Both Black and Jaylon Guilbeau are seeing the majority split of one reps. • LB/EDGE Trey Moore is getting snaps at both positions listed. More second team backer reps, but some first team edge run on Saturday. • One name that was caught the attention of an onlooker was senior walk-on LB Marshall Landwehr. • Also, first kicker onto the field for a field goal during the live sessions was Bert Auburn. -- I don't like going into the season with this guy -

No they’re writing about it because he signed a 4 year 8 million deal out of HS to go to Tennessee. Now he’s wanting double his yearly money without having play to back it up. They’re writing about it because he literally did not show up for practice because he’s “holding out.” He’s the first player to hold out and was the first player to sign a massive NIL deal. That is why they’re writing about it, you’re overthinking this way too much -

Nah this is bad. Helicopter dad shopping his kid since December. Demanding double the cost for his kid that below average. Tennessee got wind of the shopping because Lanning called Heupel, allegedly. He skips out on practice and his dad is on social media calling reporters bitches. -

Obviously they’re saving that for Parker Livingstone lol. They could want some experience and he might not be an expensive get in portal Bobby this morning: Along with an extraordinary list of high school prospects, Texas is hosting Stanford wide receiver Emmett Mosley V on an official visit this weekend. Mosley caught 48 passes for 525 yards and six touchdowns as a true freshman last season. He’s an exacting route runner with terrific size (6-2, 190) and hands. Earlier this week, Mosley visited Virginia. Mosley is not considered a burner, but uses his size, athleticism and technical skills to create separation. Watch the tape and you’ll see a receiver who is highly polished at such a young age. More on Mosley: Out of Rancho Santa Margarita Catholic High (Calif.), Mosley was a top 250 national recruit in the class of 2024. Texas offered Mosley a scholarship out of high school but he looked primarily at west coast schools, including UCLA and Washington, as well as Stanford. Both of Mosley’s parents played sports at Notre Dame. His dad was a running back on the football team while his mom was the collegiate national player of the year in soccer. He also has a younger brother Trent in the class of 2026 who is also a wide receiver and is committed to USC. His older sister played soccer for Iowa. -

Could be a good underneath and red zone receiver for us. Catches the ball with hands very well, does great job using his body in traffic, finds spots in zones and always good to have a guy who can do that to move the chains especially with inexperience at tight end. -
