  1. Bobby Burton The portal opened just one week ago today. Think about all that has happened since. Texas has added four players in just seven days (five in nine days). All are key additional pieces and all are at positions of need. You get the feeling that maybe, just maybe, there was a plan. A plan that was thought about and strategized behind the scenes for months. Hats off to Brandon Harris and the entire personnel department staff. What they accomplished in such a short period of time is the envy of college football personnel departments. ** Another fact to contemplate: Not a single portal visitor who visited Texas this portal period took a visit elsewhere following their Texas visit. Texas closed on the players it wanted. There was no back and forth. That is such a rare thing in these days. In sum, it shows the Horns had done their due diligence, identified the right players, and then had the capacity and capability to strike while the iron as hot. Again, a lot of disparate things had to coalesce to make it all happen. But that’s exactly what Texas was able to make happen. ** The latest pledge, Maraad Watson of Syracuse, is indicative of a portal recruitment process that will pay dividends this fall. Watson, a freshman All-American defensive tackle, played the third most snaps of any freshman defensive tackle in the country in 2024. The Irvington, N.J., native originally picked Syracuse over Tennessee. Yet when it came time to enter the portal - with suitors like Miami and Ohio State lining up - Watson’s first and only visit was to Texas. Texas had clearly worked the back channels of portal recruiting better than anyone. ** So where does Texas go from here? Is Texas done in the portal? I’m told that is up in the air, or at least it was as of yesterday afternoon. But I wouldn’t put anything past the Texas personnel department. As I’ve written for more than a week now, Texas will continue to be proactively aggressive if opportunities present themselves.
  2. Blake Munroe In a roller coaster of a game, the Longhorns came from behind and beat Texas State 14-11 last night. First, I want to start with this... One thing to realize about mid-week games is that Texas doesn't approach them the same way they do weekend series. At all. In the grand scheme of things, they aren't anywhere near as important, they aren't going to hurt you a ton if you lose and obviously you want to rest your key guys as much as possible. This isn't football where it's do or die week in and week out. During yesterday's game, Texas State was putting out weekend guys versus Texas, who put guys on the mound who don't pitch much. Texas is pitching to rest, whereas Texas State is pitching like it's the World Series. There's a huge difference. Let's see where Texas State is in June and compare that to Texas. Remember this. You also need to factor in that the Longhorns are No. 1 in the country, so each mid-week team is looking to knock them off so they can claim they beat No. 1. Just something to keep in mind next time your venting frustrations on social media or OTF. --- Freshman two-sport star Jonah Williams came out of the game last night. Sources close to the program told me this morning that they don't believe it to be anything serious and that Williams should be alright in the long run. --- I wouldn't expect to see Friday night starter Jared Spencer this weekend against Texas A&M. The Longhorns continue to get more medical opinions so that they can set a plan for Spencer going forward, but I'm told he will be out for the foreseeable future. Spencer is going to a specialist tomorrow. --- Yesterday morning I (wrongly) reported that Kade Bing would most likely start against Texas State, but a decision was made later in the day to switch to Grayson Saunier. I believe we'll see Bing in action this weekend. --- I'm told that Max Belyeu's recovery continues to go well. Don't be surprised to see him sooner, rather than later. It won't be this weekend obviously, but I do expect that he returns quicker than anticipated.
  3. Maybe an unpopular opinion but I don’t like Takis
  4. This is actually the best commit thread we’ve had in a long time because there is actual discussion and not just the same boring gooner gifs.
  5. He’s not “just a guy.” He’s also a pussy. Never forget.
  6. Who wants to bet that Nico's brother NIL deal was part of Nico's number?
  7. Kind of funny that Florida was so good for Quinn's numbers but so bad for Dart, haha

  9. Bobby Burton The Texas football team is headed to the practice field literally as I type this. This morning will be the 13th of 15 allotted practices this spring. The Horns will practice again on Thursday then finish up with a final practice Saturday morning. On Saturday, Texas coaches and players will also take part in a fan participation event at the stadium following practice. ** Here are some notes from the spring: At QB, Arch Manning is the clear no. 1. Trey Owens is the clear no. 2. Manning has been far from perfect. He’s had his ups and downs. However, the thing that keeps being recounted to us is that he is considered a team leader and he is commanding the offense. If there’s a bad series or a couple of bad plays, and even if it’s on the quarterback, he and the OL are the ones getting guys back together. Growth as a leader has been a big part of his spring camp. Its Arch’s team now and he’s attempting to live up to that billing. Tre Wisner remains RB1. That’s unsurprising. But he has “taken another step”, according to Steve Sarkisian. Wisner reminds me so much of Barryn Sorrell and his career trajectory. I get the feeling every 3-6 months when you see Wisner, he’s going to be just a little better than he was previously. RB2 remains Jerrick Gibson. Gibson, at least thus far, has held off the returning Christian Clark. Freshman James Simon has turned heads at times. Fall camp will be big for Simon to see if he can unseat Gibson or Clark to get into the rotation more. Parker Livingstone is the talk of camp at receiver. But what about the true freshmen? I am told last Thursday was not a great practice for the group. At least three different deep balls were catchable but went uncorralled. Aaron Butler has been a non-factor. I think the addition of Emmett Mosley V to this group is one of the more underrated moves of the spring portal. At tight end, Spencer Shannon has been the clear no. 1. Shannon is a strong in-line blocker and considered a very heady player. That being said, the injury to Jordan Washington has exposed a real shortcoming. Emaree Winston has looked good catching the ball and in making some route adjustments on the fly. His physicality is solid for his age, but it’s still not quite where it needs to be for an every down player. On the OL, the starting five have been the starting five almost all camp. Right tackle Brandon Baker and Andre Cojoe has really been the biggest “battle” of sorts. Cojoe actually rotates in with the 1s every so often, the only OL to actually do so among the group of five. Nate Kibble, Jaydon Chatman, Connor Robertson, Nick Brooks and Cojoe are the second group. I’ll write up more about the defense after this morning’s C&F. Hook’Em!
  10. That's the most normal Quinn has been in an interview that I can recall dating back to his HS days. Good job Quinn.
  11. Jeff Samardzija could have done it. He’s easily the best baseball/football athlete this century.
  12. I'm not suggesting anything. It's quite literally a hypothetical situation. Even him being on the roster next year the depth chart isn't that great.
  13. They also might be backfilling the depth chart so we don't have to be so reliant on portal as such an expensive position. With Brevard and Shaw gone after next year there isn't much there in the depth chart. If Kanu has a big year and burst on the scene he could split as well. Terry is working at buck currently in the defense and he can slide in if he puts the weight on.
  14. There is nothing great or iconic about Penn state. It’s just default UCLA clears
  15. That Houston db seems like a best available portal kind of guy we should target.
  16. He’s been done for at least 3 years now. At this point it’s best if the organization moves forward and hires a new HC
  17. I hear potentially Will Stone with the million that just go freed up!
  18. We never extended an offer even though he visited, allegedly.
