  1. Yeah, this is right. Jimbo looked nervous at the news conference. Bama's tree-poisoning brigade may get called up.
  2. I don't know how much an AD at an D2 school or whatever Kennesaw is makes, but I'd imagine it's 200. For someone like that, you're talking 5m plus? (5% return on initial investment) Seems like diminishing marginal returns to pay for a SIXTH down lineman on the defensive side, but *shoulder shrug*, YOLO.
  3. That's my "concern"* too. I think they're going to get away with it, and the college sports arms race will shift. Which schools have the resources to pay $15m for coaching staff and $25m for the roster? * I'm not worried about it. Oklahoma, the state, closes schools but still fully funds school sports.
  4. I don't think that explanation is sufficient here though. Overton's dad is the AD at Kennesaw St, so the family is both very familiar with the system and not relying of the son for financial solvency. If Overton picks A&M over Georgia and Ohio St, two schools that pay and that have a great history developing DL, that would be a signal that a family in this position thinks things will be ok.
  5. Honestly, doesn't everyone understand what happened at A&M? Chalk it up to Alabama fatigue. The talking heads need to have different teams to hype. A&M is one. SC is another. The Trojans are being talked about as a top 10 team next year despite them having done little to address big problems on the OL and DL.
  6. And the Aggies may get one more. https://www.espn.com/college-football/recruiting/story/_/id/33208055/five-star-prospect-lebbeus-overton-top-ranked-football-recruit-reclassifying-2022-class Overton is from Georgia, a Sooner legacy, and the #1 DL in 2023. But he is reclassifying to 2022. OU was an early leader (with Riley as head coach), but A&M just got a pick for him. If he goes to A&M, he'll be their SIXTH DL that will play in a 3 point stance, with 5 of those guys in the top 100 nationally. Makes sense if guess. from 247: Regarding Texas A&M: “The relationship I have with the coaches and how beautiful the campus is.”
  7. This guy, Ohrstrom, is apparently really good. The OU 9.95's said he had "the best workout [they'd] seen in many years of covering OU summer camps." OU offered him immediately after that workout, but as was typical for the 2022 class, he shut down recruiting after visiting A&M.
  8. I think Largent and Chandler were a lot better than Welker (do you agree?). But I think we agree on the overall point: It's SUPER rare to be awesome without awesome physical gifts so this PWO's got a tough road. I think Welker was great but also fortunate. Welker had elite short area quickness and route running. He was also an Air Raid slot WR early in the history of the offense with a good college QB (Kingsbury). He obviously paired with a great QB in the League. Interestingly, there is another small WR in Oklahoma in the 2023 class that has offers from LSU, Bama, A&M, Arkansas (not OU or OkSt though). But this guy can burn--10.65 100m. https://247sports.com/player/cole-adams-46115174/
  9. Paradoxically, Ross may NEED Harbaugh there because no one else will take it. And of course Harbaugh is more oblivious to what other think and has had a long relationship with Ross. Ross has been the sugar daddy for the entire university. I just googled him and UMich even has a webpage just for him! oops...he's the named funder of their business school so that's why he has a webpage. https://michiganross.umich.edu/alumni/stephen-m-ross I didn't realize how much he'd showered upon them.
  10. Agree with the size part. Marquis Brown was probably the same height and probably lighter. One of the problems with Freeman is that he isn't fast. I mean, 11.4 100m is WAY FASTER than I ever was, but OU has to LB-types (Kanak and Rowe) who run about a second faster. Welker wasn't blazing either though, right, but Welker had ridiculous short area quickness. I can't find any any public data on this for Freeman. My high school team played HH in basketball. They smoked us and lived up to their rep as rich asshole kids.
  11. Owner of the Fins (Ross) is a big Michigan donor and want Harbaugh to stay in Ann Arbor. But if Harbaugh is going to take an NFL job, Ross will offer him the Miami job, or so it's said. @MNLonghornFUKM Are you a Vikings fan? Is Harbaugh someone you'd want?
  12. Agree with all of this. Stoops is a serviceable slot WR. Riley should get credit for scheming him open. Stoops should get credit a reasonably high catch rate (~ 70% each of the last 2 yrs). But he's had almost the exact same stats for the last 2 years, 22 or 23 targets with 15 - 16 receptions for ~ 200 yds. This will be his 5th year in the program so getting more from him would be a significant surprise. I don't think any of the OU folks here are counting on a breakout from him. Who knows what to expect from Wease, a guy who didn't seem fast before his injury and who had some crucial drops in 2020 (37 catches, 55 targets, 550 yds, 14.8 yd/catch). So that leaves you with Mims and 6 guys who've combined to catch 20 balls. @Constant I hope you're right But even if Gavin Freeman duplicates Welker's freshman season (26 catches, 334 yards), we're looking at a better Drake Stoops. Freshman WR usually aren't that impactful. That's why Mims, Lamb, Stills, and Broyles really stand out. Point is, OU's passing offense may suffer next year and the QB change may not the big change. Especially if injuries hit, there may be a huge drop off in pass catchers. I'm really surprised OU hasn't taken portal WRs yet to protect against this.
  13. I think college is different from the pros at some positions because the floor of ability is so high (eg, LB, and mostly RB). What OU's facing in 2022 is a bit different. They only have 9 true WR on the roster, including 2 freshmen. Freshman WR are generally not good, so relying on them is not advised. Out of those 9, only 3 have any proven production (Mims, Stoops, Wease), one of those is coming off injury (Wease). So just having enough bodies at WR is a key. The WR who decommitted is a 2023 player. This staff has several good recruiters, and OU will likely look very different in October. So as long as the staff is making relationships, OU's be in good shape next Feb.
  14. You were right. After Riley moved to SC, Moore said he was an OU fan from childhood and would stick with OU. Guess something else happened. Exactly. OU landing this guy is what's important today! https://247sports.com/Player/Gavin-Freeman-46117994/
  15. Agreed. Should've recognized that the issues he had in high school wouldn't magically disappear. The OU 9.95ers hinted he was weird but that mostly got buried behind the rah-rah stuff. There was the "sitting behind a great leader like Jalen Hurts taught him something" narrative. That breaks down because Hurts seemed separate from the team start to finish. The final red flags that should've gone up were that the OU offense tailed off at the end of the 2019 season, unlike what had happened with Mayfield/Murray. That was shoved aside because the Sooners stomped a Florida team that was an empty suit. In defense of OU fans, Mayfield and Murray were douches also. Seems like they were at least hardworking, focused on football and didn't alienate their teammates.
  16. I don't expect that UT fans will listen to OU football players podcasts, but it's publicly available if you're interested (podcast on the prairie). The hosts stated that they could see Wms (congratulations, you used a standard abbreviation) was a more effective QB in preseason and Rattler was creating mischief after he was benched. Do homework before leveling the critique.
  17. Who went with Dart on his OU visit? To my knowledge, there aren't restrictions on the number of transfer candidates you can host so more the merrier.
  18. Context brother. Part of the reason for OU's disastrous 2021 season (based on expectations), was the preseason and in-season QB drama with 2 high upside guys, Rattler and Williams. That didn't work out well I think we can all agree. I think we can also all agree that Lebby tampered/recruited Gabriel to OU. Why would Lebby go and get another QB to compete with a guy he pulled off UCLA's campus? If OU did bring in Dart, the Surly crowd, correctly, would be saying the Sooners were recreating the QB fiasco. Check the receipts, before Caleb left, I said OU should be looking at Gabriel as his replacement. In Williams absence, I think we can also agree that Gabriel is as close to an incumbent starter as you'll get based on his familiarity with Lebby and his system.
  19. Sooners still shockingly without a serious replacement for receiving targets (the lone TE transfer is more of a blocker so far in his career). I wonder if they move Bowman to offense and Wllis strictly to WR because right now they only have 9 WR, including 2 true Fr. Only 3 WR have significant experience.
  20. ??? Understanding Caleb Williams was leaving, Gabriel was the #1 reasonable replacement in my mind. I think OU learned "talent wins out" doesn't always apply. Gabriel provides a very high floor.
  21. OU certainly needs Trigg (the SC TE transfer) more than Dart. Dart going to OU complicates things as much as he helps. OU's 2021 QB drama is a perfect example of why. Surprising no one, there's stuff leaking out about how Rattler was a divisive figure after he was benched. Trigg has been projected to Mississippi also, unfortunately.
  22. After Kiffin moves to ___________ (? Auburn) next cycle, who'll be Dart next coach?
