  1. From the Lake f/k/a Granite Shoals FIGHT!!!
  2. On video, at least, I don't think the man has used the same nonstick pan on camera twice. And that's fine (for the food).
  3. I'll go you one better: What if, in this scenario, Jordan Shipley and Parker Livingston were roommates? That'd be something to talk about.
  4. The one exception is his using a metal fork in a non-stick pan to make an omelet. His technique is of the gods, but I've got enough PFAs in my bloodstream from my mother's nonstick that probably wasn't replaced for decades until I showed up with a couple of new pans one year to explain that those flaking bits probably weren't good for any of us. I don't use nonstick, but if I did, I'm not doing any violent whipping and scraping with metal forks anywhere near it. And that's why my omelets will never be as good as the ones Jacque and Julia made. And it probably doesn't matter because they both made it (will make it) to their 90s. Pass the butter.
  5. Oh, wow! My father in law had that poster at his lakehouse (doublewide). Wonderful artwork and informative.
  6. My first thought when I saw that:
  7. While there's a slight chance I could do myself harm, with the blade angled toward the board and the clove between the edge and the spine, I've never felt like I was doing any damage to the blade or my hand. I'm not smashing it. I'm just giving it a little thump, and, honestly, could just apply a little pressure to the spine end of the heel. I think using the butt (end of the handle) with the blade away from the board would be more concerning. But the scraper is an option. But with the knife, I'm holding the handle, which keeps it where I want it. With the scraper, I'd probably end up mashing my fingers. Worth a shot, but I've got it down to a science and tend to cut myself doing various other things instead. You can also put the garlic in a bowl with the ends cut, place another bowl on top (inverted), and shake the shit out of it. The peels mostly will come off. This is kind of a to-do though.
  8. Preach. And, with the approach of September, the weekly, extra Kerrygold butter buying in anticipation of not wanting to spend $100 on butter all at once come Thanksgiving, soon will commence. As for the kids' learning good habits, my son just moved into his first apartment in Austin and was gifted a 10" cast iron pan. He made a few seasoning mistakes before he called me for advice, and I walked him through what he needed to do to keep it seasoned and relatively nonstick. I knew if I told him going in, I'd just end up telling him twice. He was calling me in about 2 days and has his first lifer pan.
  9. Agreed. Unrelated, my sister brought me some of that Onion/Chili seasoning from Trader Joe's last weekend. Solid.
  10. Bonus: My hands smell like garlic the next day. Edit: Also, for anyone who hasn't tried to peel garlic, just lay a clove on the cutting board, cut the ends off, lay knife flat over the clove, and hit the flat part of the knife with your palm. Remove peel. Chop/dice garlic.
  11. Whoever built my house wired it for Cat5. So I have junction boxes just about everywhere except where I need it at the moment. As I mentioned above, a $40 preamp solved all of my reception issues, but I didn't bother running anything over coax. But if you're just running to your HDHR box, I don't see how distribution would be an issue. But my understanding of MoCA setups is pretty limited.
  12. Yeah. It's not ideal with the location of that machine, but it's an option. Same for the Tablo, I guess. Need to check the settings. I can view it on my phone fine when I'm on my home wifi. So I assume it's the same issue. /edit. So I got the port forwarding sorted with Plex and it works again. Turns out my Tablo was hardwired. The issue is that Tablo now requires the $5 per month subscription to view remotely on a legacy device. So I guess when I'm out of town this weekend, if push comes to shove, I could pay the $5, and stream my game from the Tablo App to my old Chromecast.
  13. My current issue is getting it and my Plex server to play with my new Nest Pro wifi mesh. I'm going to have to sit down with it this evening for some port forwarding to those two devices.
  14. I was just reading that the current 4th Gen? Tablos don't let you stream remotely anymore like mine will. I think there's a way to run it through Plex as well. I had an external HD plugged into mine for a while so I could DVR the OTA broadcasts. But I repurposed it because YTTV started carrying my locals years ago.
