  1. Putting H-Town on anything is stupid. What really needs to happen is for the Adams family to have some bizarre succession crisis until the team lands with someone who will sell the branding back to the franchise. In a vacuum this looks great but it also hurts too much that it isn’t the Oilers.
  2. What’s amazing is that Tesla remains the most valuable car company by market cap. It’s twice as valuable as Toyota although Toyota sold over 11 million cars to Tesla’s less than two last year. Based on what? The Cybertruck is eating shit. They have no new models in development and their lineup is worse than legacy electrics. FSD is just vaporware. I hate the Chinese but Beijing is backing Xiomei and BYD. Total delusion.
  3. 1995 Judson-Permian. One of the best state championship games ever.
  4. Kind of where I am going with my post. If aliens inhabit the same physical universe as us, then it’s highly unlikely that they have visited. If they do not— and can teleport, or are telepathic, and aren’t constrained by physics like us then there’s no reason to speculate that they are ET life forms. Angels, demons, Gods, ghosts, spirits— all work just as well and they would be indistinguishable from angels or spirits anyway if they are not bound by the speed limits of physics and material reality like us.
  5. You’re getting some hate for this but UNIFL’s approved mission is in fact to demilitarize southern Lebanon aside from government of Lebanon and UNIFL forces (read: de-arm Hezbollah). It has of course been an utter failure at doing so. It’s not cool to shoot at UN Peacekeepers, and Israel shouldn’t do it. The fact that Hezbollah and not the government of Lebanon controls the area and has rockets does mean that UNIFL is completely meaningless and has accomplished nothing since 2006.
  6. Furk, Harlingen is bad this year. Losing 40-9 to a Brownsville school? That’s a shit loss even though Vets had their run last year. I wonder if Manny has it in him to do another run. Part of it is the personnel. Maybe in a couple years we can ride Woolery to greatness but this year the passing game is dead.
  7. As you get deeper into the UFO internet, there’s a subset of people who say that UFOs are actually inter-dimensional demons. Tucker Carlson has said something like this. And honestly, that’s not really less plausible than what you need to accept in terms of unlikely physics and probability for them to be visitors from outside our solar system.
  8. Mystic River is fantastic and IMO Eastwood’s best. Honestly of all the LOTR movies, Fellowship of the Ring was best versus its competition. Much better than A Beautiful Mind, which is not worth watching again after the gimmick is revealed.
  9. The opposite, I love LOTR and have gone through them several times with the kids. The other movies are better. Master and Commander is almost flawless.
  10. Sure, although this kid had 9 sacks and 8 TFLs in 3 games playing in GHA 6a ball. First year playing football. I can’t find the very latest, but that’s blue chip worthy when combined with measurables.
  11. This kid has exploded and he clearly has ridiculous athletic ability. 10.71 at that size? But, in the era of NIL and transfers projects are such a risk. You’re committing to likely not getting any production for the first year and then another round of shopping yourself after a year in a college s&c and development program. I think he will be a hell of a player somewhere.
  12. Probably not unpopular among movie critics and snobs, but among most people— Master and Commander was by far the best picture of its year and was miles ahead of LOTR: Return of the King where some of Jackon’s worst impulses shine. LOTR: The Two Towers was better and should have beaten Chicago (which is forgettable) but Road to Perdition was better than both. Apocalyoto is one of the best movies of the last 25 years, period. Completely succeeds as a pure action and chase movie. But it’s also shot in Yucatec Maya and is deliberately ambiguous about the current popular interpretation of pre-Colombian America. It’s some real auteur shit and it isn’t recognized because Mel Gibson is a lunatic crypto-Nazi and because it says some uncomfortable things about pre-Colombian America.
  13. The colors are always revealed when something happens. Their dogs are big sweeties who might lick ya to death and when they maul you, it’s your fault. Decent people don’t keep an animal that has seriously injured a child.
  14. Not just sports. The best branding, logos, and colors from across the spectrum are mostly from that sweet spot of design. Updates are nearly uniformly crap. Don’t get me started on airline liveries and logos. On the NBA side I’d argue that the current Warriors and Bulls come closest.
  15. Also PSA, I know some of you listen to the Knowledge Fight podcast, recently Alex Jones “interviewed” ChatGPT and it’s fantastic media via Dan and Jordan.
  16. What I really like is the theory that the government has a weather machine and only really uses it to fuck up Florida every other year.
  17. I think that they were one of the only teams where the drop shadow worked well. I usually don’t like it at all.
  18. Looks like the mid-late 1990s look with the drop shadow.
  19. Gritty comic book movies suck and it’s time to end them. The source material is a person dressing up in a themed costume, maybe with magical powers, and fighting another themed rival. It’s not a vehicle to explore the problems with America or imperialism or libertarian philosophy or whatever. We have Westerns and gangster movies for that.
  20. Super cool stuff, and I am sure that the group using Telegram to call for solidarity with Iran is a completely grass-roots and legitimate American organization in no way tied to hostile foreign powers.
  21. Bratislava is worth the visit, IMO if you have time. I lived there for three years. The coolest site is outside of town, Devin Castle ruins which sits over the confluence of the Morava and Danube rivers. There is also a memorial to Czechoslovaks who got shot trying to swim the river into Austria. They also make black and red currant wine so you can try that and enjoy the views. Bratislava Old Town is fairly staid and boring in the day time but it gets lively in the evenings and it’s nearly all Slovaks. It’s a real experience. In my estimation Slovak women may be the most beautiful in Europe.
  22. Just got back from a couple weeks on the continent and spent a weekend in Nuremberg. Really, really cool city with a beautiful walled old town and castle where the Holy Roman Imperial diet used to meet. I made the trek out to the Nazi Party rally grounds. You can peddle a pink swan around the unfinished Congress hall.
  23. I turned…a number in my 40s about a week ago and my mom sent me maybe the best present ever. Unbeknownst to me, she had deconstructed and bagged up (with instructions) my very favorite Lego kit and had been sitting on it a bit. I now have a daughter who is 10 and loves Legos and so in the mail I got it, in a few ziploc bags. One week of evening constructions later and we have it! I don’t put kids online, but the Black Seas Barracuda is now the flagship of our playroom, and she even likes it better than her Lego “Friends” set.
  24. Thread title reminds me of how whenever I go to the ATM I am always behind someone who has never seen an ATM or a touchscreen or money before.
