  1. Ah, yes, but it's reunion night! Flex pricing! i.e. Bend over with no reach around
  2. WAY too soon.
  3. No apology necessary. As a parent, so many aspects of this tragedy have had that effect on my this past week. Best wishes to your friend. Counseling is absolutely a good idea.
  4. I did not see this thread morphing into an Inception sequel...
  5. This mental image just rips my guts out. Horrible.
  6. Don't kink shame me.
  7. The words were trying to say that a lot of people thing both things are wrong. But you do you.
  8. I may get negged to oblivion for this, but here goes. When some undocumented person commits a crime, is released, then commits another, bigger crime and rapes/kills someone's wife/daughter, the vocal conservatives will scream for stricter immigration laws. When a situation like you posted happens, the vocal liberals will scream oppression. I think the vast majority of people (not just posters) feel that both instances are tragic, and hate that they both happened. The ideal balance between lawlessness and oppression doesn't exist. There will be instances like these for both extremes to scream about. Some people don't scream about either, despite the fact we aren't happy about either, because we don't want to be as insufferable as all the other screamers.
  9. FIFY. The ridicule might never end over that watch on the mack daddy watch thread.
  10. The million dollar question is did the non-murderer see the murderer do it, ask why, and the murderer denied it, OR did the murderer do it and immediately ask the innocent pilot why he did it and the innocent pilot answered honestly. I suspect we will never know, unless they find some sort of manifesto or suicide letter from one of them.
  11. As an old, fat, out of shape guy that lives multiple states away, I say good on each and every one of you that partake in this endeavor. Give the rest of us an avenue to support financially. Gas money, supply funds, we can support Seal Team Surly from afar.
  12. Pecos people making Monahans jokes, similar to Alabama people making fun of Mississippi. Is it really that different? At least we have the sandlhills!
  13. As a TESCO baby Monahans native, this hits close to home.
  14. That is certainly an option, but it doesn't exactly fit the scope of this thread.
  15. The right attitude makes all the difference. My denomination of choice (Church of Christ) is historically very well known as being that very sort of judge-y "We're right and you are wrong" type of attitude - and don't think for a second there aren't still loads of those out there (both individuals and congregations). However, I once was in a class where someone asked about that very issue about being "right or wrong" on salvation issues. I think there is a line in the sand somewhere, and only God knows where that line is, but everyone sins on the reg and grace is the only reason we have a chance. Grace covers all kinds of sins if your heart is right, including the "sin" of not getting every little detail just right. Again, no one knows how much is too much, so the goal should be to be across the line as little as possible and grace will take care of the screw-ups.
  16. I personally feel that there are very few if any churches out there that aren't doing something wrong, whether that be doctrinal, or attitudinal. The best advice I would give anyone is to go back to the source as much as possible. For me as a Christian, that would be the New Testament first century church, and the example that is provided in those books. Do what they did, don't do what they didn't do, and focus on living a biblical mindset every day. If you find that the denomination you are currently attending strays too far away from that example for your comfort level after learning things for yourself, maybe it's time to shop for a new flavor.
  17. It's worth pointing out that Jesus Himself prayed for the impending crucifixion to be avoided if there was any other way, followed by "nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will." (Matthew 36: 39). You know He knew the answer, but he prayed it anyway. Prayer is nowhere near a free hall pass out of hard times. It's more of a way through hard times.
  18. 100% this. My daughter is 18 and about to start her freshman year in college, the same age as the two Mystic counselors from that cabin. This hits hard and I don't have any degrees of separation connection to any of them. It's still gut wrenching.
  19. Knock-off Omega, huh? I never took you for a poors.
  20. Good on ya @Cajun, and the others that are close enough to pitch in physically in one way or another. Sending money seems so trivial in comparison, but from states away what else can you do?
  21. This is precisely the kind of humor my warped brain needs right now. Have some rep.
  22. I am not at all surprised to see this thread bumped after a weekend like this. The why's are more than our mentalities can handle. Thank goodness that is true. I wouldn't want to know the why's at this point, but you can (still) put me firmly in the Christ followers group. We all have questions we could get answers for after something like this happens. We will never know in this lifetime.
  23. No apologies needed. You are doing real work more than 99% of Surly and 99.9999% of everyone else. You heard good news, and after the past two days you did what everyone else did, which is why this story spread like wildfire. We all wanted it to be true. You good, fam.
  24. You better capitalize that G, otherwise He may throw in a strategically placed lightning strike as well!
