  1. ... Or you could see fall in Texas is in my front yard. Planted this red maple 25 years ago and it's survived everything. Great looking tree. Leaves are almost gone but I love a real autumn on my lawn.
  2. No, it'll be cloudy all day and windy as hell - and that shitty north wind - I shoulda said "clearing out". Gonna feel colder than the temp for Thxgiving, but I kinda like it that way. Sat. another weaker low moves in from SW but won't do much here. Clouds should be around most of the next 3 days - Sunday clearing. But pretty late fall like days... fireplace weather. Rain should shut off though for most of ATX/N by 9-noon... not a huge rainmaker... yeah, the farther north you go the quicker you'll be thru the rain... if you're leaving at dawn it should be rainy up through maybe Waco-ish, then not after that. BTW, I wanna give a shoutout to I think the best TV weather guy is in Austin - Zack Shields on Ch. 7. You might not see him much, he's mostly weekday mornings, but man this guy's forecast is just rapid-fire with every stat. He give the best micro-and macro- forecast and I think they give him a little longer than average - about 3 minutes. He's not flashy, and his forecast isn't glittery and he doesn't do a lot of "down home" colloquialisms. But of everyone on TV in ATX right now, I love the way he presents the weather, it's by far the most complete and informative. And no I'm not his lover nor is he paying me to be (or in any other way). Workhorse, just the facts, ma'am. The only downside are goofy cartoons and gifs but most channels suffer from that. Anyway, I've gotten to really like this guy. Check him out on their site if you really want a great weekday forecast (and into the weekends on his Thur-Fri editions). Bonus - I couldn't believe it - I saw Tim Ross after all these years (KVUE Met even before Mark Murray, back during Katie Kelly days of mid-late 80's) - he does weather for the RFD channel (I think it's that one). Holy shit a blast from the past (didn't like him much, too goofy, but glad to see he's still in the business). Editted forr spelingg.
  3. They finally got these in?
  4. No rain Wednesday (today). Overnight rain Thursday, ending early, probably by 9 a.m. or so, then clearing and colder (60ish). No rain Friday. Tiny bit of rain Saturday with a reinforcing cool front, clearing later in the day.
  5. No shit. Extremely shitty to call out someone by name in a thread unless they commit a crime or something. Get a fucking life.
  6. I'd just be happy if next year the OL could keep three guys per play off of him, never mind the six this year and have him turn into walking taco sauce by the end of the season.
  7. Bijan is a very strong Evangelical Christian. It's not in his DNA to leave during a trying time and I've actually heard him make comments to this effect. I never thought he would transfer or leave.
  8. After a few years of putting it off, finally got one of these hot cakes, going faster than crab salve after a Bangkok night: 2.0 'posed to be nice, trigger issues improved. Also, the longish barrel is 'posed to make the kick more like a push. Hope so would be awesome if so.
  9. I was going to say you should have started this thread in the gambling forum. But then I realized this isn't a gamble, it's a freaking metaphysical lock. Well yah, take the points.
  10. Bump. Didn't want to start another thread (because usually they suck), but my reaction after the (metaphysically certain) loss to WVa: I don't think I've ever seen the program at such a shitty state in my 45+ years of following Texas football. I could elaborate why and reminisce about the glory years of Texas football in which I grew up (mostly 60's-70's with of course the Mack era), but that's a no-brainer. Of course Sark will get another year, and I guess most people would think it's nuts to not have him back. I agree to a point, but... ... if there's been any time in the past that letting a guy go after one year: 1) really wouldn't collapse the now-basement state of the program any further, and 2) can try (yet again, sigh) to find someone to build something back, it would be this year. Yes it's a crapshoot to get a new coach and yes, I get that a lot of this was inherited. But after watching this year and the rocket-sled descent to borderline chaos which is under him, does anyone feel like next year will be a lot different (don't even start on if SEC in 22...)? I mean it's in unprecedented territory how shitty the team is, way more than most big programs. I just can't escape the nagging sense that Sark is over his head. Are we going to "hope that it turns around" (because what does anyone see that would give you hope? Maybe a stellar recruiting year, which I doubt right now)? Anyway I know this is all just a typing exercise, because they're not gonna fire him after one year. And reluctantly I get it and can live with it. But - if they did - I don't think there would be any real downside to an already-at-or-near-all-time-lows program. FWIW.
  11. It's at the Big House, so that'll work on Michigan's favor to keep the score down. 57-3 Ohio State.
  12. Probably pulled the "double secret probation penalties on one play" thing, huh?
  13. Didn't watch the game (as I posted on the first page) but my analysis is that they played a shitty game and an inept offense couldn't overcome a pourous defense. Did I miss anything?
  14. Just chiming in to say I'm not watching the game, but I'll post afterward like I did. Because it's Surly.
  15. That's interesting, because when I booked the bulk of my trip to Europe in September at least 90% of the trip insurance companies offered covid rebates, and I looked at dozens of them (squaremouth.com comparison). I don't know if they started pulling it because of the surge or what. All I know is I have it. My policy was by no means unique for the time and it covers all extra hotels/lodging and full refunds on most things due to covid delays or cancellations. Not everything is 100% refundable but most stuff is at least 75%. We have five people going I think I got a bulk deal, something like $750 for all of us, pretty much well within the norm.
  16. That's so bad it's great! The thought occurred to me that you could just drill armholes thru the base of each of those suckers, poke everyone's arms through, and go to town. I think it's time for a new guitar design!
  17. Guess they didn't get trip insurance? Or did it not cover Covid-related stuff? I'm going to Europe in August, hopefully it'll be safe (or at least in between waves!) but man in this day and age I wouldn't set foot out of the front door without a travel policy.. word to the wise. Yes, definitely, absolutely, it's worth it.
  18. That wasn't up when I was giving tours/worked there, so good to hear. There was also an excellent restaurant/cafeteria in the Castle, but I don't remember if it was employees only or general public. Wonder if it's still there.
  19. Aw, they're okay and stuff, but not enough necks. Amateurs.
  20. If you have significant baggage, probably. Otherwise yellow line to Gallery Place station. Transfer, go downstairs to Red line. Red line to Dupont Circle. From there it's about a five block walk to the Lyle. It's about a 7 minute walk from your gate to the metro station but it's all indoors and not a bad walk actually through the terminal. (Note that many lines have several different colors on the same track, make sure you get on the right color). Fairs $2.50 to $3 a person, depends on if you hit Rush hour fares or not which I think start at 3:00. Trip about 25 minutes by train. Probably almost the same in an Uber really because of traffic. I do it if I had one suitcase & a carry on. Probably more than that I'd do an uber. If you choose it, the walk from DuPont to your hotel is pretty safe neighborhood, obviously that's not a bad part of town.
  21. I wanna be sedated. Could be very good, or very bad, for you.
