  1. They called it the "Jim Lee experience". Once you got in line, you could look at artwork and original panels that he would sell. Some were as high as $85K! They also had some stuff from his own collection that wasn't for sale. Very engaging people working with him that would give you some background on the pieces. I got the impression that it was a family affair, he had about 4 different people helping him. Lee and I spoke about the late '80s to early 90s run at Marvel. He said that was the real "golden age" of comics. I agreed with him. McFarlane's Image indulgence started the 90s downfall. McFarlane was always a better artist than storyteller, but I enjoyed some of his Image work. But it accelerated the mediocrity of the industry overall (Liefeld!), and ultimately diluted the comic industry by flooding distributors with tons of copies of books that wouldn't sell. I've heard McFarlane is a gracious person with fans, but really comes off as arrogant and off putting with others in the industry. I'd love to meet him. Can't tell the history of comics over the last fifty years without him, Lee, Claremont, Byrne, Miller, Morrison, Shooter, and others.
  2. Went to see Jim Lee a week ago at a Frisco Collectors Convention. He was great! Got all of my X-Men #1 variant covers signed from '91. Same ones Claremont had signed years earlier. Smaller comics area than the sports card area. A few really good vendors, but overall less a comic convention and more memorabilia convention. Still had some good '80s era comics there that I almost picked up.
  3. Kulu not available for the first month of the season as well. Things are going great!!!
  4. Huge blow. Magnifies the MGW debacle. I don't know who is out there this late, but Levy needs to move out on someone.
  5. It's an ACL, so he's pretty much done. It's a 7+ month injury, barring any setbacks. He's set to have surgery soon. I wouldn't think they would rush him back after that. He'll be available next year. In the meantime, we need a midfielder.
  6. Any update on the Maddison injury?
  7. Please do, if you wouldn't mind.
  8. Sonaldo is moving to LA. I'll have to catch him when he comes thru town. LEGEND!!!
  9. They're saying it's pretty serious. We need to get a new midfielder in as soon as possible.
  10. The blooper reel with Wesley doing the Riker "leg over chair" gag was outstanding. Especially since Frakes directed the episode.
  11. It's a final. Spurs win 0-1. Given the large support of Arsenal by the Chinese, I feel good about disliking both.
  12. Friendly vs Arsenal in Hong Kong this morning. Very partisan crowd in favor of the Gooners. Sarr just scored from midfield as he caught the GK off his line. 0-1 Spurs. It's on P+ if anyone is interested.
  13. It wasn't 4 months, right at 3 months, but I was younger and watching it as it came out. That was the first cliffhanger in the series run. The first two seasons didn't have two part episodes during their seasons either. This was pre-internet, so nobody knew what was going on. That season, they would show 3-4 new episodes then show re-runs for 2-3 weeks, then show 3-4 new episodes again. When Best of Both Worlds Part I came out, most of us thought they were in another re-run cycle and that Part II would come out in 2-3 weeks. It was a long wait to get resolution. TNG was can't miss TV for me before DVR and On Demand.
  14. Gonna need more than that. Eze, Mbeuemo, and Kudus have all been discussed. Need one of those or a combination of those to come in. Highly unlikely, but we need more than we have.
  15. Pop Stroke is fun. Always crazy busy, but fun and they have good food and ice cream.
  16. Came here to post this. Shooter was a legend. That 80s run at Marvel was amazing. One of the projects he oversaw at that time was Marvel's New Universe series of titles. He worked on one called Star Brand, which I really enjoyed. That New Universe concept didn't last more than a year, but it was intriguing and had some great stories.
  17. It's been fun. Keith David is great and it's a nice '70s period piece.
  18. Couldn't get that YouTube clip to embed, but it's the excerpt from the Milius doc talking about Jaws and includes Spielberg's comments. Full doc is now on YouTube it looks like.

  20. That's not entirely accurate. John Milius wrote pages of the Indianapolis monologue for Quint at Spielberg's request. Shaw told Spielberg he couldn't remember that much material so he condensed it down after spending a lot of time reading through it. Great documentary on John Milius that includes Spielberg telling that story. It's called Milius and you can stream it for free on PlutoTV. Worth a watch, highly recommend.
  21. Shaw was great in The Battle of Bulge too. Scheider would go on to play Frank Murphy in Blue Thunder. Another excellent movie.
  22. Spielberg called John Milius at his home while production was going on at Martha's Vineyard because he felt like they were missing a scene for Quint. He asked Milius to write something for him. What Milius came back with was several pages of monologue for Quint. Shaw couldn't remember all of it, so he told Spielberg to give him some time with the pages and he'd condense it. What you see on the screen are the highlights from Milius' script. That entire scene with the monologue, Dreyfuss' quiet reaction, John Williams' music, the rocking of the ship, and the sound of a squeaky ship, makes the movie. Growing up, that was the scariest part of the film for me. Simularly terrifying is the air traffic control scene from Close Encounters. Great storytelling in both instances.
  23. Off the Bone BBQ is permanently closed and has been replaced by a Taqueria. Bud had an article earlier today about that.
  24. The penultimate episode of Clone Wars, Shattered, is perfection. For as much as everyone talks about the tension and build up in the Gorman Revolution episode in Andor S2, those 3 minutes of zero dialogue with just Kiner's score playing in Shattered are amazing! Just captures everything perfectly, outstanding storytelling. Those last episodes of CW are the best SW content since ESB. I say that as a huge fan of Andor and Rogue 1.
  25. Sounds like we got Frank as the Gaffer. Other part of the managerial change, is that it sounds like we're getting the Brentford Fitness coach too. After last year's injury issues, that might be as big a deal as getting Frank.
