  1. “Give me an Army of West Point graduates and I'll win a battle. Give me a handful of Texas Aggies and I'll win a war.” - fake George Patton
  2. Like I said, from our perspective, they were evil bastards. But they took care of their own and I agree they had their own logic. There were other tribes that werent nomads and they were shit out of luck unless they could trade something of value.
  3. That seems like a shit ton. Wonder if they count all unmarried minors as rape (statutory). It’s fucked up regardless.
  4. What struck me about the book was how deep it cut at Old West and Native portrayals in pop culture. You’d both sympathize and be revolted by how Comanches operated as a warrior tribe. They were like apex predators and if couldnt provide them value they saw you as lesser beings. They cared only about taking care of their own people. I’d like to see a fair depiction of their strength and rejection of western culture’s morality. Which might upset people. I do expect the same old wise Indian monologues over peace pipes talking about the white men. What was depicted in the book was these evil bastards (from our perspective) were terrorizing whites and natives alike. They’d get paid to stop raiding, then break treaties, only to have the ignorant US government terrorize other, more peaceful tribes confused it was Comanches. We’ll see. Think Sheridan would be best outsourcing some of this work to others to make it fresh. Did I spell all the words correctly? @slorch
  5. Digging in on your opinion? I’ll have to watch it again. One of things that made KOTFM notable is the depiction of the banality and grotesque nature of evil. Having Leo and DeNiro be the two lead villains would not have been my choice because they seem cool and are legends on and off the screen. But they both did well. I usually appreciate Leo’s performances after time and rewatches. Think they needed to be in it for box office.
  6. Is there any other kind?
  7. Jesus Christ, you spellcheckers. The worst people on the internet.
  8. The court room scene was a farce and demonstrated a miscarriage of justice was occurring. Therefore it was on point and (probably) historically accurate. I dont doubt the Freemason’s spanking scene was also based on real stuff but that was weird too. The whole movie is filled with weird, evil and unbelievable shit that actually happened. Regarding 1920’s lawyering, I read a book about the infamous lawyer turned Gatsbying bootlegger - George Remus - who got away with murder. He did theatrics similar to what Fraser was doing. The book covered this part in great detail. Dude was crying and yelling - I think in his own defense. Jury ate it up back then because they were rubes. Now juries eat up DNA evidence and crying blondes.
  9. The Comanche’s impact on world history is dwarfed by the Mongol Empire, who ended civilizations with their horse calvary.
  10. 1920’s lawyers acted that way and did so effectively.
  11. Then you can excuse yourself from further discussions about Scorsese. Do you fast forward thru Breaking Bad for just the good parts?
  12. Which one of you assholes is rolling around with this on your Miata?
  13. Like I said, plenty of people shared the same type on invalid criticism about Oppenheimer (it should have been). You want an FBI procedural? Make your own movie.
  14. Much like criticism of Oppenheimer of what wasn’t in the movie, sometimes people miss what was in the movie. Lily Gladstone rightfully was nominated for her powerful performance that spent a great deal of time covering her family’s story, why it happened, and how it happened. Scorsese did not make this into an FBI thriller. They intentionally avoided making this Mississippi Burning.
  15. Unless this is a parody, this is a pathetic opinion. Let’s break it down: 1) Start off with a huge leap off False Comp Mountain. Reminds me of the Otter Defense. 2) Describing the Crime Lab as a “department” “far downstream” is also a massive departure from norms. Perhaps this is our cue to know that you’re joking. Because when the average person watches a police procedural on tv, analyzing semen is like 1/4 of each show. 3) Putting violent offenders who shoot off semen into or onto unwilling and/or dead victims behind bars seems like a big deal and probably should be something a Chief should be on top of. Saw the news interviews of survivor groups dismay with Art and they expressed concerns of his seriousness with solving the crime lab issues and lodged an accusation that he retaliated against those critical of the crime lab issues. My conclusion is that you were either joking or you’re a “I like rape” twice kind of guy.
  16. I believe Trump had a decent IQ ,but is very ignorant of a great many things even going back to the 80’s. In the Roy Cohn doc and from his biographer, he was portrayed as an empty suit who bullshitted and bullied his way thru business, but had limited attention span and no interest in reading. His current intelligence is now deteriorated and he relies upon past phrases and word salads his way. He can turn a phrase still, and his instinct and savagery are in tact. That the GOP has successfully pushed two incurious men into office, gravytraining on their way there based on their last name, is more reason to relegate the GOP as a viable party in our system of democracy.
  17. She suffered mental illness, so that was kind of the point
  18. That seems like a long time ago. Was that part of the Teapot Dome scandal?
  19. Clive is started to resemble Bill Murray. Also, seemed to imply dude has a big swinging dick (pool scene, prostate exam)
  20. One misstep I saw was the line DeNiro had about people forgetting this incident. And the FBI guys said they’d always remember or something like that. The book concludes that the American criminal justice system was widely abused to strip people of their rights and property, especially against minorities. This story was not an isolated to Osage County.
