  1. It appears the dogs heard their whistle.
  2. Any time people propose or support such an idea, it would be really nice if they first define what exactly they mean by "gouging" -- precisely what level of profitability is too much. Anything more substantive than "it feels bad and im confused so theyre evil". It would save tons of immamac's bandwidth.
  3. Harris is specifically targeting meat processors. The largest processor in America (and 2nd in the world), Tyson, earned 6% in 2022 and actually lost money (-1%) last year. Sysco sits at 1-2% every year. JBS is Brazilian and Cargill is private and do not have mandatory reporting. The major grocery chains themselves do a few percentage of net income every year, as @Incredulity noted before. Researchers at the SF Fed conclude that "rising markups have not been a main driver of the recent surge and subsequent decline in inflation during the current recovery." ...... but I think we should ask our resident communists just to be sure

  7. Uh, if cops not enforcing traffic laws is the cause for increased in traffic fatalities, isn't the solution to start re-enforcing them (against whatever 'various reasons' they stopped doing it)? Primary source the actual traffic incident statistics from NHTSA and DOT, here's what it shows: -Speeding as a cause of fatal crashes has not meaningfully increased. (More people speeding causing same incidence of death should lift fraction of speeding-caused death) -"Operating vehicle in careless manner" is only category with steady and steep increase across years -Oddly, overall crash and injury rates are down, while fatalities went up

  9. Chipotle took a big dump on that news. They had gone on a decade long tear. This summer they did a 50-1 split because each share was so nominally high - in the thousands.

  13. for anybody who laments that the 'american dream' is dead, remind them that a bunch of roomate bros launched a multi-billion business by literally rebranding baby wipes.
  14. Just spitballin here but they would enjoy the camaraderie of 10,000 athletes from 200 countries at the start of the games than just 50 fellow surfers
  15. W,T,F? (thought you were joking)
  16. Having to compete in surfing in Tahiti kinda sucks in that you wont get all the fraternizing with all the other Olympians in the same city with all the Olympic Villlage atmosphere (and boning)
  17. Its not a Denver steak unless it comes from the capital of Colorado. Otherwise its just sparkling beef chuck.
  18. Kinda feel for the French though. Every single time they clawed the score back to a manageable gap, team America drains a 3 and knocks them back down. Demoralizing.
  19. Human cheat code. Theres no other description. You knew it was going to be him shooting it, you knew it was going to be from a ridiculous distance in ridiculous circumstance, and you knew it was going to go in. And it did. And its been that way for over a decade. The most spectacular player of the millennium for me, without a close second.
  20. That’s my spirit walrus
  21. These wimmen javelin tossers make some nice Shieldmaidens 😌
  22. High Jump is the best Olympic format. You just keep pushing the bar higher and higher until your competitors fail.
  23. Screenwriter coming up with the story:
  24. i think its pretty disrespectful and offensive for her to culturally appropriate people with cerebral palsy
