In the case of Lot he’d be naked, shitfaced, and getting fucked by his daughters.

And Lot doth declared, "The Aristocrats!"

We went to Rome a few years ago and visited the Sistine Chapel.  One of the ceiling panels was "The Drunkenness of Noah."  I guess after getting off the Ark his first order of business was planting a vineyard and getting plastered.  Makes sense.

Anyway the panel shows him laying on the ground, shitfaced, and without any clothes.  His sons are around him, embarrassed and laughing at him.

For some reason I had a strange sense of kinship with him.

That's actually a really interesting and mysterious part of the Bible. There's been many explanations reasoned for why it was included in the story, from just straight forwardly being about rudeness and why the Israelites were justified in conquering Canaan, to Ham raping Noah, to Ham sleeping with Noah's wife, to Ham castrating Noah (and possibly linking them to the Greek myth of Kronos castrating Uranus and/or the Hurrite myth of Kumarbi and Anu).

I mean, if you don't get sucked into fundamentalist gobbldygook, it's actually kind of fascinating.  I love the idea that humans, as storytellers with great oral story traditions, may be telling stories of events that happened thousands of years before.....that's just cool.

I guess the reason we find flood stories throughout the world is that human civilizations tended to be located near rivers and rivers flood.  This type of event is common to people so it helps make them relatable when sharing stories, so it gets repeated more often.  Hey Gilgamesh.

This is a fresh take on the meaning of the phrase "going ham".

It's also been used as a justification for slavery.  Ugh.
