Wish it was a better looking win but I’m sure they’ll take. I didn’t watch the match but from reading here it seems the passing was a little better. The serving for this team has obviously become mental like having the yips in golf. Year after year of talking about the same issues with the team is frustrating as a fan. Hopefully Coach Elliott will finally address the SR, ball control, and defense by recruiting better in that area or as some of you have said by hiring new coaches. It’s always been the elephant in the room and it will continue to be  until it some how is eventually addressed.

Kiley Hall, Sydney Yogi, Sarah Palmer, Sha'Dare McNeil, Kat Brooks, and Amy Neal are the ones that had the ability but REALLY had to develop and refine those abilities to play at a high level.

If the coaches are not able to develop the passing/ball control/floor defense that's needed to be a consistent Championship-caliber team, then they need to focus on getting players that already have those skills and offer them a scholarship, instead of hoping that these walk-on DS's will develop.

striking that so many of those names are defensive specialists.

How do you pick between benching Hahn or Rounsaville? Honest question, because besides the Stanford match, for two years I feel like they both have been equally weak at service errors and ball control.

But I just took a quick peek at their HS bios, and it seems like they were just about equal to Petersen in terms of being recognized statewide and nationally prior to arriving at Texas. So I don’t know if it’s a recruiting problem or a development problem, but it seems to keep happening.

As long as Autumn doesn't serve, she should be ahead of Hahn....and Jhenna should be moved into Hahn's spot ASAP...

I could be wrong here but I don't think Hahn or Rounsaville had the same rep as Petersen coming out of HS.

There was optimism around Hahn and Rounsaville but I don't think they were perceived the same way as Petersen. From my limited memory, Hahn and Rousanville were types where we said "they might be good with a little bit of development" where Petersen was "yeah she will come in and contribute from the get go".

Now maybe that has something to do with positional need this year.

Pretty sure you are right, I just glanced at their awards and special teams they had been named to.

But I do think Petersen is a great addition at libero, and IMO her SR control and tougher serve are looking better than McCoy.

I would start offering actual money to these girls from the Midwest or Hawaii or California in the L/DS role versus Texas. Top programs all seem like their liberos and defensive players are from Iowa/Kansas/Nebraska.

SSS from Minnysota.  Seems harsh winters spent in the gym might be a factor.

If we run the table in the Big 12 I think we will be a top 4 seed.

1) The Big 10 is a bloodbath. All the teams are going to end up with a bunch of losses. The Big 10 winner will get a top 4 seed but I'm not sure they get another team as a top 4 seed.

2) Stanford looks like the only option in the Pac 12.

3) Nobody in the SEC is a threat to be a top 4 seed.

4) BYU will probably have a decent shot of being a top 4 seed.

I think the top 4 seeds are going to be Stanford, BYU, Big 10 winner, and then either Texas or another Big 10 team. This is under the assumption Texas handles their business in the Big 12 which is far from a guarantee.

RPI futures projects that we finish 18-6 and 7th in RPI. I know we've struggled at times but I don't think there's any shot we lose 3 matches in the Big 12.

It amuses me that the Beastie's Girls keeps getting played.  I would think that would be me too'ed out of public performances, particularly at a womens college sports event.

Girls - to do the dishes
Girls - to clean up my room
Girls - to do the laundry
Girls - and in the bathroom
Girls - that's all I really want is girls
Two at a time - I want girls
With new wave hairdos - I want girls
I ought to whip out my - girls, girls, girls, girls, girls!

10-0-17 (.588) for Micaya was a career best hitting %.

Can we get that Micaya every single night?  Passing was good enough that Shook was able to absolutely spread it around:

White: 10-0-17
Butler: 6-3-16
Johnson: 5-0-11
Luketic: 4-4-13
Eggleston: 6-1-13

Except for Brionne, who still is susceptible to hitting it too long, everyone who had an attempt hit .385 or better.  But that's okay on Brionne, because her solo block of Pressley out of the back row attempt was beautiful.

Take away Presley and this team is easy to beat.

I hope this isn't our only competition in the Big 12 or this team is going to do their normal and fuck around in half these matches.

I mean, Baylor lost to Tech - the Big 12 sucks so hard.  We might get tested on the road because we fuck around, but we should absolutely finish this season undefeated in conference play again.  KU - down.  Baylor - inconsistent and not that talented.   WV and ISU are both a game over .500.

Rankings are dumb, they're only in the top 25 because of that Wisky win.  They have losses to Tech and UTRGV.  Awful.

Tangent - fuck, I am so sick of playing less matches than everyone else.  I get that teams won't "come" to Austin, says Elliot, but fuck, GO SOMEWHERE. Make something fit.

So far:

Texas - 10 matches

Tech - 16 matches

Kansas/TCU - 13 matches

Iowa State/OU/WV - 15 matches

Baylor/KSU - 14 matches

I mean a C-USA or Southland team would be thrilled to come to Austin....even on a moments notice. But I guess when you factor in RPI it’s worse to crush them 3-0 than not play them at all. So we’ve decided to not play at all.

Western Kentucky is RPI #29 (CUSA), VCU is #35 (A-10), UNT is #51 (CUSA), Denver is #57 (Summit), Central Ark is #68 (Southland), Rice #79 (CUSA), Ark State #90 (Sun Belt) - all top 100 RPI teams we could play in Austin.  Boosts their RPI but doesn't really hurt us because they are top 100 RPI.

I don't think we will go undefeated in conference but do think we will win the Big 12 with ease. Which is the problem. We can see this so you know the players do. Tough to be engaged when you know you can win the conference with ease.

The winning and losing part is secondary to me. It's tough to improve when you fuck around half the year because your conference is so shitty.

Texas winning the first set last night is case and point. No reason Texas should have won that set the way they played. But how do you change habits when you're still picking up wins? Tough to change habits and develop when wins start stacking up.
