Maybe Sark and them fellas just thought it might be a docent idea, having a place-kick holder who could actually get the laces out and the ball straight and could throw a pass on a fake kick.

Disclaimer: I have no idea whether Caldwell has ever held for kicks, but I also have no idea whether the "I'm told..." schtick has the slightest validity. Damn, I wish we'd had a spring game to see what we've got.

It’s a small sample size but dude’s 2 passes in SEC play were NFL level throws.

In Florida that was perfect timing and touch immediately looked better than manning efforts that game.

Miss state that was perfect placement either TD or incomplete.  Phenomenal catch by Mosley.

I’m not terribly worried if he has to play in Manning’s place.  That concussion looked more than just a minor one.  Dude didn’t know where he was.

How’s his ability to run and scramble?

This will be Caldwell’s second career start against a P4 team so temper expectations accordingly despite two great one-off passes against UF and MSU.

On the other hand, Joey Aguilar is tearing it up at Tennessee after one season at a Sun Belt school so maybe?

Schemes and playcalling matter. If Caldwell is getting blitzed on plays where all receivers are running 15-20 yard routes, he too will struggle.

I don’t do all-22 analysis but I feel confident that on many of those plays there is at least one guy who is an outlet or hot read for the QB to get the ball out fast. We just haven’t hit enough of those to punish defenses for blitzing. Maybe Caldwell is an improvement in that respect?

Timestamped. Sometimes the schemes and play call are just stupid. This is just one of many examples pointed out this season. Caldwell would've had the exact same results. There simply is no one to pass to.

As I said in another thread, here's to hoping Sark checks his ego and starts calling plays for the situations.

That’s fair and I am not letting Sark completely off the hook. It’s why I hedged and said “on many of those plays” there’s an outlet. But I’m sure you can find several from each game like this one. It’s taken a group effort to get this dysfunctional. And there’s several where the outlet is there, Arch makes the throw, and Wingo drops the slant, etc.

This was the entire Kentucky game. Anyway there are numerous other threads to Sark's idiocy this year.

We are all in the same boat, the SS Hope.

After watching Tennessee light UK up deep on Saturday, I can see why Sark may have started with that approach but should have figured out it wasn’t happening a lot quicker.

If his pre snap and post snap reads are just a little better/little faster than Arch it could go a long way but our running game is still an issue.

This will be a heck of a test for him/us.  hopefully getting back home gives everyone some extra juice.
