Ever notice all those Chinese sellers on Amazon with weird-ass names?

Well the Amazon Brand Registry is encouraging them.  You have to have a registered or applied-for US Trademark Registration to put yourself on the Brand Registry.  Heretofore, I thought that was only an issue of removing counterfeit/infringing products from Amazon.

But, listing in the Brand Registry also helps search positioning.  This I did not know.

So those little Chinese and other sellers are flooding the USPTO with trademark applications so they can get on the Brand Registry.

There was a rash of Chinese bogus filings during Covid that may or may not have related to this (it appears that it did as this article is lagging the phenomenon pretty significantly).  It's easier to register a complete nonsense word than something that more resembles what we think of as a trademark.

Fuckin Amazon.

Where do I send my application to perform extremely basic grammar and spelling checks on all of these Amazon product listings? A little clean-up, and I could trick bored wives that they're buying actual quality merchandise and not blatantly knock-off crap. Gotta think I could make a killing.

I'm just kidding. No one cares if it's absolute junk so long as it costs $3 less than the name brand.
