  1. This song, dedicated to guitarist Roy Buchanan, was composed by longtime friend Stevie Wonder as an apology to Jeff for releasing "Superstition" first. This is what Beck is referring to in the liner notes on the back of the album when he says, "thanks to Stevie." @jimmyjazz
  2. Bullshit! You cut that faux bite out with a bandsaw. Nobody bites that clean.
  3. Sorry, Bro. Maybe next year.
  4. Merry Christmas y’all. Standing in front of the bay window, pantsless with my coffee and this walks across my brome field.
  5. -10 degrees with 30mph wind in Marionfuckingkansas right now. Wrapped in a snuggie and watching xhamster. I'll be ok.
  6. Emil Joseph Kapaun (April 20, 1916 – May 23, 1951) was a Roman Catholic priest and United States Army captain who served as a United States Army chaplain during World War II and the Korean War. Kapaun was a chaplain in the Burma Theater of World War II, then served again as a chaplain with the U.S. Army in Korea, where he was captured. He died in a prisoner of war camp. In 1993, Pope John Paul II declared him a Servant of God, the first stage on the path to canonization. In 2013, Kapaun posthumously received the Medal of Honor for his actions in Korea. He is the ninth American military chaplain Medal of Honor recipient.
  7. Holy shit. Thanks for posting this. You hit the nail on the head with this comment.
  8. Today's lunch. The local Czech ladies from Pilsen make bierrocks and kolaches to support their church. It's the home church of Father Emil Kapaun of Korean war fame. We bought several dozen to feed everyone today. The smaller one is a cheese and sausage whatever and the bigger is sausage cheese and scrambled eggs. Delicious.
  9. I knew who LaSalle was but I never associated him with Texas. His exploits in the Great Lakes region got all of the attention in History classes that I attended. It's been a long time since I visited Bullock but it sounds like I need to return.
  10. I haven't been north of SF yet but it looks like I should go up next time. That looks fantastic. We travel to Maine and Monterey just about every year and I have yet to find a place in New England that will serve a plate like that. We have found several on the west coast that do.
  11. That is pretty interesting. This is on my list for next weeks travels to Kyle. Thanks
  12. I don't know, man. If I don't put the bourbon or rum in there, the egg nog just sits there for weeks.
  13. Hat tip to @MNLonghornFUKM. He was surprised to find that somebody else on Surly knew about a Memorial in Wahpeton, ND for a couple of men that died erecting a circus tent. It popped up in the Non-Texas Winter Weather thread. I'm a sucker for that kinda thing and it made me wonder what else is out there. Post an historical place in your neighborhood that you think will skunk surly. Someplace that has a little historical significance but someplace random and obscure enough that nobody on here has been there. I'll start with this, https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/knute-rockne-memorial It's just 10 miles east of us. It's locked down by private ownership now but it was easily accessible up until a few years ago.
  14. Banana Slug. From the Redwood forest outside of Santa Cruz, CA. Mascot of the UC Santa Cruz sportsball teams.
  15. Is this for places in Texas only? This is some corned beef hash that I had for breakfast in Pacific Grove, CA a couple of days ago. Outstanding breakfast.
  16. Yeah, this is gonna be a cold one. I will take some of that snow if you can spare any.
  17. Not a snek but no better place to share. We saw 4 of these in the redwood forest at Henry Crowell State Park outside of Santa Cruz last week. Excuse the shitty iPhone pic.
  18. I assume Janhs is Chris Jans. Might want to vet that one a little bit. He had to do a couple years of rehab at WSU after being fired at Bowling Green for a bar altercation with a woman. Rehabbed by Gregg Marshall. Think about that.
