  1. Perhaps the Wed game @ Texas St was a factor. Game was much closer than the final score, 4-0, for good reason pitched Morgan against a higher rated team than Kansas. Czech continues to be susceptible to the HR ball. I think she now has given up 11 or 12. 5 errors, returning to old ways. If there had to be a loss like this, some consolation it was to a team coached by Jennifer McFalls and Kaitlyn Slack. Appreciate their past contributions to the program.
  2. https://txhighschoolbaseball.com/ Website with info, schedules, etc. Will be handy when playoffs start in a few weeks. (4 May, I think ?)
  3. Stanford Live Stream | Pac-12 Tech vs Stanford via Stanford's home network.
  4. Nice article about Whitt which makes one appreciate his journey, the way he has matured, and the hope for continued injury free success. https://www.statesman.com/story/sports/college/longhorns/football/2023/04/09/texas-wide-receiver-jordan-whittington-savoring-his-final-season/70092808007/ Excerpts: “I think there's different ways of leading,” Whittington said. “You're going to have the vocal ones, and then you're going to have the guys that, you know, they're not necessarily vocal, but they do what they need to do, and you can watch them. That's a form of leading, too, and I think we're getting every single person on the team to move in that direction.” Few experiences have matched graduation, when Whittington received his degree from Texas. “It was amazing,” he said. “You never really think about how cool it is until you actually get up there. I'm going to be a Texas Ex, and I'm so glad I could just say that and put it in my bio. It felt just like winning the state championship in high school.”
  5. Ty Madden mowed down some RubberDucks in the first start of the season for the Erie Seawolves. The former Texas Longhorns ace, who the Detroit Tigers drafted in the first round of the 2021 MLB First-Player Draft, looked the part against Akron on Saturday with 10 strikeouts in four innings. The Seawolves are the Double-A affiliate of the Tigers and went on to beat the RubberDucks 5-0. The Tigers gave Madden a $2.5 million signing bonus after the club drafted him with the No. 32 overall pick, and protecting his arm while he develops is of utmost importance. Madden hit his innings limit before his pitch limit, so he left the game without allowing a hit and just one walk in 60 pitches. Teams in Minor League Baseball are charged to value development before on-field success, and it’s common that pitchers have work limits, especially early in the season. Madden’s strikeout total tied his career-high with the Seawolves. Madden was 8-6 with a 3.01 ERA and 133 strikeouts for Advanced Single-A West Michigan and Erie last season. After his promotion, Madden started seven games for the Seawolves last year and was 2-2 with a 3.10 ERA, 49 strikeouts and 12 walks. https://www.kxan.com/sports/former-longhorns-ace-ty-madden-tremendous-in-1st-2023-start-for-double-a-erie/
  6. Portable Single-Lead Heart Monitor | KardiaMobile | Kardia Best to wait until after the cardiologist visit and ask him/her for recommendations. She likely will be fitted for a medical device heart rate monitor to wear for a continuous period to monitor her heart. Also, check the Kardia. Different products, FDA approved, and accepted by many medical professionals A friend uses and is very impressed.
  7. This is from KXAN. Statesman and TexasSports rarely have info. @YGIFS, if you have any contacts at TexasSports, please mention. AUSTIN (KXAN) — As Minor League Baseball squads gear up for another season, eight Texas Longhorns from last year’s College World Series team are set to take the field across the country. The 2022 Longhorns MLB Draft class was the second-largest in the past 10 years — 2017’s class was 11 players — and most of them have landed spots on Single-A rosters for the upcoming season. Ivan Melendez, the 2022 Golden Spikes Award winner and No. 10-ranked prospect for the Arizona Diamondbacks by MLB Pipeline, hasn’t been assigned to a team yet. According to MLB Pipeline’s Sam Dykstra, Melendez is dealing with a sore left hand but, “should be back soon.” He didn’t break camp with a club this spring due to the injury but played for the Single-A Visalia Rawhide for part of last season right after he was drafted. He played 25 games, hitting .207 with three home runs and eight RBIs. He struck out 20 times and walked 10 times. Once he’s ready to go, it’s likely that he heads to the Pacific Northwest to play for Arizona’s Advanced Single-A affiliate, the Hillsboro Hops. Melendez has been working out at third base as well as first base this spring. Shortstop Trey Faltine is currently the only member of the draft class to be on an Advanced Single-A roster. He’s slotted to play for the Dayton Dragons in the Cincinnati Reds organization. Outfielder Douglas Hodo III and catcher Silas Ardoin are teammates for the Delmarva Shorebirds, the Single-A team for the Baltimore Orioles. Lefthanded pitcher Pete Hansen gets to pitch for the Palm Beach Cardinals, the Single-A team for the St. Louis Cardinals, and infielder Murphy Stehly will suit up for the Fredericksburg Nationals in the Washington Nationals farm system. Jared Southard and Skyler Messinger are playing in the California League to start the season, Southard, part of the Los Angeles Angels organization, will pitch for the Inland Empire 66ers, and Messinger is on the roster for the Fresno Grizzlies, part of the Colorado Rockies system. https://www.kxan.com/sports/where-the-2022-texas-longhorns-mlb-draft-class-is-playing-to-start-the-2023-season/
  8. "bad blood" is likely OB $9.95 hype. Besides NIL, another key factor may have been we had a pitching coach change. Though Woody is proving to be an excellent pitching coach, how he would do here not known at the time. Walton has been at OkSt for 10 years and has put several into MLB.
  9. Yesterday Day batted in the 1st as DP, then replaced by Whitaker. Not in lineup today, injury ? Her experience and ability are invaluable, especially in games like this. As we have discussed, Simpson's forte is relief not starting.
  10. Would like to see a test for performance enhancing drugs. Not only their physical characteristics, their antics. #F___OU
  11. For good reason. Saw the below while searching for Final Four news.

    2023 NCAA Baseball

SCar 6 MsSt 4 LSU 5 Tenn 2 LSU scored 3 in the bottom of the 8th to break a 2-2 tie. All time record crowd at The Box, 13K. Unfortunately, the right field bleacher crowd threw cans and trash onto the field in the 8th for an inexplicable reason. I suppose to celebrate the 3 runs.

    2023 NCAA Baseball

Thursday night college baseball fix: SCar at MsSt, 6PM. SECN Stanford at OU, 6:30PM, ESPN+ (3 game series) Tenn at LSU, ESPNU, 7PM (should be a good one)
  14. Pierce was likely focused on watching players to prevent an incident.
  15. Is Washington injured ? Or batting avg (.247) ?
  16. Seems like deja vu, 3rd in conference, host a Regional, travel for a Super. This Tech team coming in may be the best Tech team we have seen in awhile (26-8). Definitely the best coached with first year coach Craig Snider (former top asst at Fla St and aggy) Though their pitching may be suspect compared with other B12 teams, at least on paper. Baylor travels to OKSt this weekend which will begin the separation.
  17. Props to Pierce for candid insight on everything. Kash situation is addressed at 13:00 mark. Appears to be a question of scholarship money, maybe accept less ? Quites all the rumors. "Gavin Kash was outstanding when he was here. He fit in well." Also, nice player interviews. (Lengthy but worth the listen)
  18. https://texassports.com/news/2023/2/21/baseball-to-retire-dressendorfers-jersey-number.aspx Saturday. Link above for those maybe not familiar with Dressendorfer. Other news: Brandon Beckel, key middle reliever for Tech, suspended for 4 games. Don't know, apparently for over celebrating, maybe taunting, key was he was warned. Strict punishment. The junior righthander from San Antonio Antonian was ejected after he struck out Cowboys right fielder Carson Benge to end the top of the sixth inning. Big 12 spokesman David Waxman said Wednesday in an email to the Avalanche-Journal that Beckel was ejected under a portion of the NCAA baseball rulebook that covers unsportsmanlike conduct. "Per NCAA Baseball Playing Rule 2-26-e, an ejection of a pitcher carries a four game suspension," Waxman wrote. "This is not a suspension handed down by the Big 12 Conference, but by NCAA rule. It is not able to be appealed by any entity, including Beckel, Texas Tech and the Big 12 Conference." Beckel is 3-0 with a 0.64 earned-run average this season covering seven appearances, all in relief. In 14 innings, he's struck out 19 batters, walked six and allowed nine hits. He's holding opponents to a .164 batting average. The suspension makes Beckel unavailable for No. 14 Tech's three-game series Friday, Saturday and Sunday against Texas in Austin, as well as a Tuesday game at New Mexico. Tech coach Tim Tadlock initially declined to answer questions about the incident after the game. "I'll say this: Baseball, college baseball's supposed to be played with some emotion," Tadlock said. "And big-league baseball, when it's played with it, is really fun to watch. And so, kid played with a little emotion. "The unfortunate part was, there was a warning earlier in the game, and it was at a much milder time in the game, quite honestly." Home Plate: Doug Williams First: Luke Hamilton Second Base: Mike Morris Third Base: Joe Harris Not positive, pretty sure Doug Williams is an aggy. Read an article that he lives in the College Station area. https://www.lubbockonline.com/story/sports/college/2023/03/22/beckel-to-serve-4-game-suspension-for-ejection-from-tech-osu-game/70038715007/
  19. Everyone needs to give a "shout out" and rep to @Horny Bull for posting these scores and lineups all year. Saves time. Much appreciated !
  20. @BillyGoatHill may be able to offer further advice. Busy weekend. Softball also plays Tech beginning at 12PM which affects parking. How many in your group ? Would recommend taking minimal number of vehicles. If you arrive early (probably around 9AM) you may be able to find street parking behind the softball field or cemetery. Below is from an email if you choose not to have your private tailgate or you can do both. Not positive, but pretty sure tailgaiting is not permitted in the parking garage. May want to call the Texas Ticket Office (512-471-3333) to verify that if you purchase a garage permit you can park in one of the lots. Good Luck ! Before Texas Baseball and Softball host Texas Tech on Saturday, March 25th, Texas Athletics will host the second annual Comal Street Block Party between UFCU Disch-Falk Field and Red & Charlene McCombs Field. Details: Tailgate opens at 11 a.m. and concludes at the start of the baseball game (2:30 p.m.) All amenities at the tailgate are FREE for all fans Tickets are required for entry to both games Inflatables available for kids Multiple food trucks Big Beertha will have 10+ beers on tap The Comal Street Block Party will use the parking lot behind UFCU Disch-Falk Field off Comal St. as well as the grassy area in front of the Texas Tennis Center. This will allow fans to use their normal tailgate spaces and access the additional amenities. Join Longhorn Nation as both Texas Baseball and Texas Softball open Big 12 play against Texas Tech. Game Schedule: Softball vs Texas Tech: First Pitch – 12:00 p.m. | Gates open – 11 a.m. Baseball vs Texas Tech: First Pitch – 2:30 p.m. | Gates open – 1 p.m. TraDISCHions Saturday: Kirk Dressendorfer Jersey Retirement The first 1,200 fans receive a t-shirt, courtesy of UFCU Parking: Texas Baseball permit holders with an East Campus Garage pass may park in the East Campus Garage beginning at 11 a.m. or in any East Lot starting at any time on Saturday, March 25th. 21. https://txstatebobcats.evenue.net/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/SEGetEventInfo?ticketCode=GS:TXST:BS23:BS21:&linkID=txstate&RSRC=SIDEARM&RDAT=sgl&_ga=&dataAccId=850&locale=en_US&siteId=ev_txstate Tickets go on sale Tuesday, 9AM, 21 Mar, for the Texas St game in San Marcos on 10 April. Always a sellout, need to order Tuesday to be safe. Though we play them at the Disch the following night, San Marcos trip is good trip, great venue, ballpark, Texas St does a great job of hosting. And always a great game. Texas St is 13-6 this year.
  22. Quotes: “This whole game and our game plan offensively was to really own the paint,” Terry said. “It was a paint game for us on the offensive end of the floor. We didn't want to settle. We knew (Penn State) was a really good offensive team, we had to try to make them work on defense and we wanted to attack the paint all night long. “We knew we had a size advantage; we knew we had a guy (Disu) that could score the ball that's playing at a very high level.” “I said, ‘guys, we've been here before, it's nothing we haven't faced this year,’” Terry said. "I said we've played the toughest league in the country, let's go out right now. We've got to put it on our defense. We've done it all year long. We've got to get a stop and score and put some stops together here and try to finish this game out. And I thought our guys went out and did that at a very high level.” “We know some nights you know we're not going to shoot as well as we want to shoot, but our defense travels,” Terry said. “We've been battle-tested time and time again. This was nothing new,” Allen said. “When we got down there, there was no shake, no bend. We just went back to what we do, what we prepped for. We knew it wasn't going to be easy. We knew there was going to be a time today where we would have to go through adversity and get over that hump, and we did that. A ton of guys stepped up, a complete total group effort. And Dylan had a special night. Another special night, I should probably say.” https://www.statesman.com/story/sports/college/longhorns/mens-basketball/2023/03/18/dylan-disu-texas-men-edge-penn-state-to-reach-sweet-16-in-ncaa-tournament/70024808007/
  23. https://texassports.com/sports/softball/stats/2023 I love Czech, but that is the 7th HR she has given up this year (Simpson 2, Morgan, Gutierrez 3) Which gets us back to the convo of using Simpson only in relief. Two out error by Goode in the 3rd which led to 2 unearned was key.
  24. Do you know why Watts-Brown did not start, he is the Friday guy ? TCU 13 OU 5 Tech 8 Ok St 7 (10 inn) Game winning double by Kash
  25. https://texassports.com/sports/softball/stats/2023/marist/boxscore/15405 Not a good start for Simpson, 3 BB and 1 WP vs a 7-16 team.
