  1. SEC Commissioner Sankey on SEC Tourn in Hoover (exercpts) Note the ingress/egress issue. "We're going to be certainly in Hoover for a few more years. They've made commitments," Sankey said of the city's efforts. "You can see the entry. You can see the redone parking lot. You could walk through the facility and see enhancement plans before we play again next year. They've built the Finley Center, which is an all-purpose building that really accommodates our fans in an outstanding way. ... "I made some notes about ingress and egress (this year). There's a direct way in. We were stacked up about a mile and a half on the 459 when I was driving in about two hours before the game. How do we reduce the fan friction to access the facility is top of mind. Now, credit to the city of Hoover. They actually sent people out to buy bottles of water that they were handing out, and they had done preparation in advance knowing that there'd be a great crowd and dealing with the heat. ... But we need to continue to work on reducing the challenges, if you will, for access for those big crowds." Sankey noted how the Hoover Met draws large audiences, even on school nights. He mentioned a story in which an Ohio State fan came up to him during the tournament and told him they had previously seen the enviornment and wanted to be a part of it. "I think we want to respect that we've built something special in that location," Sankey said. "... The geographic center, even after this next expansion, is just north of Birmingham. So, it's an accessible place if you want to get there. It's going to be distant from the outer edges of the league, but it's a pretty special place. We've got 250-plus RV hookups that sellout just like that. If you ever walk through that community, for one week it is a community. (It's) fun to see people enjoying college baseball in a really unique way." Sankey was also asked about the potential desire to put more tournaments in the western half of the conference landscape, especially now that the Longhorns and Sooners are involved. "The pressure is to get the site location right," Sankey said. "There are sets of championships that do rotate around. Those are campus-based championships. ... We actually looked diligently and have surfaced that issue, identified that issue with our membership to say, 'Hey, we're ready to look west. We have looked west.' But the opportunities we've had in other locations have just been voted the priority. ... "We'll continue to look at western opportunities. I was vocal about it, but the decisions made by our membership has created the inventory in the locations we have." https://www.statesman.com/story/sports/college/2024/05/29/sec-baseball-tournament-hoover-met-greg-sankey/73900368007/
  2. I watched the Florida series. She pitched a gem in game 2, 5 hits/2 runs. (5-2 win) They brought her back to start game 3 instead of Binford and she gave up 4 runs in 1st inning. Binford relieved and gave up 1 run on 2 hits the rest of the way. (5-3 loss). Hope going to portal is not an emotional decision.
  3. No, Heffler was the coach ejected yesterday. Harger ejected in Florida. They look like brothers and both are aholes. https://12thman.com/sports/softball/roster
  4. Anyone know if Singleton is suspended today ? Or if umpire crew chief/NCAA can waive the rule ? Not sure, what I found is below. Big loss if he is suspended, always provides in game consult with the hitters. Penalties for Coach Ejection The ejected coach must leave the playing field and dugout area immediately and is not allowed to communicate with the team or umpires. The ejected coach is suspended for the next regularly scheduled contest (one game). The suspended coach is not allowed to participate in any manner during the suspension. Additional Notes A coach who is ejected from a game can appeal the decision to the NCAA. The NCAA Softball Rules Committee has the authority to eject a coach from a game for unsportsmanlike conduct or misconduct. Coaches are expected to maintain a professional demeanor and not engage in behavior that is deemed unsportsmanlike. 5. Sun came up this morning. Many remember the Arkansas Fayetteville Super Regional in '22 when we lost game 1, then won the next 2 for MW's first trip to the WCWS with Texas. 4 of today's starters were on that team (Dayton, Maloney, Scott, Washington) with Czech, Cimusz, and Simpson. May they inspire the others.
  6. Read an interview with Amanda Scarborough. She said Texas has the most pressure being the #1 seed and expected to advance to the WCWS. In Trisha Ford's only 2nd year aggy is loose and playing with house money. I did not have the opinion her statement was pro aggy but made a good point. As stated above by others, the last 2 innings were very, very important to give momentum and create doubt for aggy. We got Kennedy to over 100 pitches today when at first it did not look like we would. This is not baseball, but in this heat it matters.
  7. The scouting report on how to pitch to Cannon is in error.
  8. Quotes: @bschoolprof Do you by chance have the Mike White press conf that is referenced ? (White) “For us to win the national championship, we have to play everybody and beat good teams,” he said during a press conference Thursday. “This is just an opportunity to play a very good team from a very good conference, and the extra added piece is the rivalry, but the game tomorrow night won’t know that.” Aggies left-handed pitcher Emiley Kennedy threw the bulk of the innings and White fully expects to see her high-velocity style again. “She’s tough,” White said. “She’s controlling her emotions better than she was before, so she’s smoothed that out. She knows she’s the ace and the team depends on her, and she takes that and rides with it. She’s got the same kind of stuff and velocity, she’ll throw a little bit of offspeed but she wants to power the ball by you.” (Kennedy) “I personally am not a fan of Austin, Texas,” she said. “I grew up in the College Station area. It’s just a school rivalry so we’re not really making it too big.” Kennedy went to Lake Creek High School in Montgomery, about an hour’s drive from the Texas A&M campus. “The balance of attack in the SEC is much higher than a lot of conferences, top to bottom,” Ford said. “Every team has a pitcher who can throw 70 mph and 5-6 players that are top-notch, players who can put up a crooked number with one swing.” https://www.kxan.com/sports/longhorns-aggies-downplay-lone-star-showdown-rivalry-headed-into-softball-super-regional/

  10. Props to Schuessler. Article contains photos that show the seriousness of the injury. AUSTIN (KXAN) – As Texas Longhorns catcher Kimble Schuessler was moving toward what he envisioned being a breakout season with Texas, he started to experience major discomfort in his left hand. He eventually went to get it checked out, and the diagnosis was a rare one that required risky surgery. “Doctors really … it was an experimental surgery,” said Schuessler. “There wasn’t really a name for it.” In August 2022, the discomfort started for Schuessler on his left index finger. It turned to discoloring and numbness. The best way to describe it is “dead finger.” He tried to push through the injury for months but decided for surgery in December. A 5-hour surgery kept him in intensive care for four days afterward. The surgery, as Schuessler said, was an experimental one. Doctors took an artery from his left thigh and attached it inside his left hand to get blood flow to his “dead” finger. They removed scar tissue and broken arteries as well which all left him with quite the scar. “Going in, I knew that it was going to be fixed but I didn’t really know if I was going to have 10 fingers when I woke up,” said Schuessler. The surgery was a success, but Schuessler had quite the road to recovery in front of him. It started with catching ping pong balls to regain strength, and then it progressed into a major test. “The moment that I really knew the surgery worked was [the] first weekend at [Texas] Tech,” said Schuessler. “Friday night I was catching Lebarron [Johnson Jr.] and it was snowing. I was like if I make it through this game, then I know the surgery worked.” Not only did Schuessler make it through, but he’s become an everyday player. He’s having the breakout season he’s been working for throughout college. “I’ve been healthy and not played and I’ve been hurt and not played,” said Schuessler. “I’ve seen both sides of the spectrum. Getting in there and really maximizing my opportunity has been great and I really appreciate it.” Schuessler is hitting .338 with nine home runs for the Longhorns. He and Texas will get going in the Big 12 Conference tournament in Arlington on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. against Texas Tech. 11. aggy 2B Wiggins appeared to be taunting Mullins after she hit the home run. Noticed her before. She has the personality (overexuberant to the point of annoying) to play for OU. But she also has the skill. Not sure I can take the 5 days of media hype that will happen this week.
  12. Thanks so much. I was going to post this but was too lazy. Everyone show js some rep for an outstanding job of score updates and schedule.
  13. https://texassports.com/sports/softball/schedule/2023 Went back and looked at the '23 Regional. Kennedy relieved for 4 innings in game 1 and we only got 1 hit. (2-1 final) In game 2 she relieved for 6.1 and we got 7 runs on 7 hits (11-5 final) Our offense is much better this year with RH hitters Stewart and Mitchell. Washington and Goode are coming to life. Atwood is an All American this year. aggy like us has alot of speed 69/82 SB's we are 84/97. Can't bobble the ball.
  14. Mullins only threw 90 pitches yesterday but not her normal self. And with the called zone. Count getting high today and with the heat. Need her to settle and find her inner Hailey Dolcini.
  15. aggy/Texas St starts at 2PM (SR opponents)
  16. Texas St defeats Penn St 4-2 with a 3 run rally in bottom of 6th. Mullins pitched, gave up a 2 run homer in top of 6th. Will be interesting to see if Coach Ricci Woodard rides Mullins like Connie rode Luna. Mullins pitched when Texas St defeated aggy earlier in the year. Only other experienced starter is freshman Madison Azua from Round Rock. Postseason, greatest time of year !
  17. St Francis may go 0-2. The intent of my post was to indicate they should be respected.

He breaks down composing the team lineup, reviews the Regional opponents, and other great comments. Mike is a coaching wizard and a great representative of the University of Texas. As of this hour, TexasSports.com has not published a preview of the Regional. Below are opponent stats if interested. Realize there is a difference in competition, but don't sleep on St Francis. They won 40 ball games, hit .309, ERA 1.67 (3 good arms), field only .963. They beat Sienna twice in an early season tournament. https://sfuathletics.com/sports/softball/stats/2024?path=softball https://nusports.com/sports/softball/stats/2024 https://sienasaints.com/sports/softball/stats
  20. BA and Teddy Cahill normally have a pretty solid prediction. Surprised that OU is #8 seed even though they are reg season conf champs. Dallas Baptist in anyone's Regional has to be a concern. Wake Forest does at present have a top 10 RPI. 2024 Selection Commitee Indiana AD Dolson replaced Clinkscales. https://twitter.com/KendallRogers/status/1742328560654692433/photo/1
  21. Thanks ! TexasSports.com does a poor job of covering Summer ball. Occasionally, they may publish an article with assignments, but not often. Same for AAS. @.45s If you have the time you can always search the websites for the rosters of the California Collegiate League, Cape Cod, and Northwoods leagues.

  23. Don't recall reading. Respect Mazey, seems like a "good guy". Only 58, may be tired of the NIL, transfer circus, or have TV media opportunities with his wife. B12 Coach of the Year in '19 and '23. Conf Champ in '19. What to know: Mountaineers coach Randy Mazey announced before the season he was stepping down when it ended. They celebrated Mazey on Sunday with a victory over Kansas State in his final home game. https://www.statesman.com/story/sports/college/red-raiders/2024/05/13/oklahoma-baseball-conference-champion-in-farewell-season-big-12-baseball-power-rankings/73637512007/ 1. Oklahoma (32-17, 21-6) Last week: 1 What to know: Don't bank on a seventh Big 12 series sweep. No. 15 OU finishes at Cincinnati, the surprise team of the Big 12 and one of the hottest ballclubs down the stretch. Related:Oklahoma baseball making tracks toward a title | Big 12 baseball power rankings 2. Oklahoma State (34-16, 17-9) Last week: 2 What to know: Too bad No. 17 OSU's series finale Sunday against slumping Texas Tech was rained out. Before then, the Cowboys were mathematically still in the race for the conference title with a head-to-head tiebreaker over Oklahoma. Oh, well. 3. Texas (32-20, 17-10) Last week: 3 What to know: How's this for consistency: The Longhorns have won two out of three in eight of their nine conference series. No other Big 12 team has won more than six conference series. 4. West Virginia (31-19, 17-10) Last week: 4 What to know: Mountaineers coach Randy Mazey announced before the season he was stepping down when it ended. They celebrated Mazey on Sunday with a victory over Kansas State in his final home game. 5. Kansas State (29-21, 13-14) Last week: 5 What to know: K-State, No. 36 in the RPI, had some momentum with recent series victories over Oklahoma State and Kansas. But after winning last weekend's opener at West Virginia, the Wildcats lost 13-0 and 12-5. 6. Kansas (29-18, 15-12) Last week: 7 What to know: Kansas, with help, could still get the No. 3 seed in the Big 12 tournament. The Jayhawks finish at Texas in perhaps the best series of the final weekend. 7. Cincinnati (30-21, 16-11) Last week: 6 What to know: Don't be dismissive of Cincinnati at the Big 12 tournament. The Bearcats have won four conference series in a row and five of their past six. 8. Central Florida (31-17, 12-14) Last week: 8 What to know: The Knights have lost three of their past four conference series after winning four of their first five. Barring a late run, they're probably going to miss NCAA regional action for the sixth tournament in a row. 9. TCU (30-17, 13-14) Last week: 9 What to know: The Horned Frogs have gone from outside the cut line for the Big 12 tournament not long ago to a bubble team for the NCAA tournament with a No. 38 RPI and a No. 41 strength of schedule. They finish at home against West Virginia. 10. Texas Tech (30-22, 12-17) Last week: 10 What to know: The Red Raiders are going to miss the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2015 unless they win the Big 12 tournament. Kansas, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State have Texas Tech on an eight-game conference losing streak. Related:Texas Tech baseball clinches Big 12 tournament bid with rainout at OSU 11. Baylor (21-29, 9-18) Last week: 11 What to know: Texas Tech might have missed the Big 12 tournament if Baylor had had anything left. The Bears have lost 11 conference games in a row. 12. Houston (25-26, 7-19) Last week: 13 What to know: Houston hung losses on Texas's Max Grubbs and Kansas's Reese Dutton, who have two of the Big 12's five lowest ERAs among qualified pitchers. Even so, the Cougars have lost 19 of their past 22 conference games. 13. Brigham Young (19-29, 6-21) Last week: 12 What to know: Thank goodness for midweeks. The Cougars are 6-2 in their past eight non-conference games. But in conference? They've been swept four series in a row.
  24. This article may be appropriate for another forum and may be posted there, but it will further impact parking/logistics for softball and baseball. Especially with the expected increase in crowds with the SEC. The University of Texas will move forward with a graduate student housing project that will bring 576 beds along with entertainment, dining and grocery options. The UT System Board of Regents on Thursday approved the university's proposal to build the project at 1900 Comal St. The new development is the second phase of the university's plan to expand graduate student housing, UT President Jay Hartzell told the American-Statesman on Thursday. The new complex will be built near another new graduate student housing project UT plans to open in the fall with about 780 beds. It will also be near UT's athletic facilities and will have five new beach volleyball courts, which will allow the UT women's team to host NCAA competitions. https://www.statesman.com/story/news/education/2024/05/13/university-of-texas-new-student-housing-scholarships-jay-hartzell/73627368007/ 1900 Comal St

Only David Pierce could have designed a field that small. Texas returned to the Baseball America rankings at No. 25 this week and has four more conference wins than the Knights, but UCF holds a much higher RPI than Texas at 32. That simply means any win against UCF, especially on the road, will help Texas improve its rating and presumably its NCAA tournament seeding.
