  1. Apology if info previously posted, but the story of Tyler Shultz (grandson of former SecState George Shultz) one of the whistleblowers. Bright, young mind with integrity. Note his comments of the pressures of beginning his own startup. (excerpt) Shultz was not the only Theranos whistleblower, but he was the first to report troubling findings at the company to regulators. At the time, it was a risky and bold move, and it came at a high cost for Shultz. But it helped accelerate scrutiny that would ultimately end with the company's implosion. Shultz had worked countless hours in labs. Armed with this scientific know-how, he quickly realized something was amiss when he looked inside of the Edison device. "There is nothing that the Edison could do that I couldn't do with a pipette in my own hand," he said. Then he discovered another alarming thing: When Theranos completed quality-control safety audits, it was running tests not on the Edison, but on commercially available lab equipment. That did not seem right. "It was clear that there was an open secret within Theranos that this technology simply didn't exist," Shultz said. https://www.npr.org/2022/01/05/1070474663/theranos-whistleblower-tyler-shultz-elizabeth-holmes-verdict-champagne
  2. https://whataburger.com/locations/910/menu Only chicken strips are available for online order at many locations. Manager states shortage of chicken and reserved for drive thru and dining in.
  3. Blair Stouffer, Managing Partner, was the shortstop on the Texas Baseball National Championship team in '75. UT Family. They also have an office in Austin.
  4. Agree. Eric Kennedy is the Nick Peoples type, a little baller. Todd will be interesting. Played only 6 games last year, only 17 in the '20 Covid season, don't think he played Summer ball at least not in the competitive leagues. Probably has been doing cage work. So it may take awhile for him to get in the groove at the plate. Hope he still has his speed and defense. One thing for sure, Antico left a big void.
  5. Back in December 2020, the NCAA Committee for Legislative Relief extended a blanket waiver for Division I Baseball through the 2022 season that called for a 40-man roster, 32 counters (players on scholarship) and the continued elimination of the 25 percent scholarship minimum. However, the Committee hasn’t set forth the guiding principles for roster management beyond the 2022 campaign, leaving many Division I coaches across the country https://d1baseball.com/bestd1/abca-ready-to-tackle-roster-management-new-challenges/ Don't have a subscription for the complete article. Subject is how will the expanded rosters end and the effect.
  6. Section 3, still remember the 10:00AM kickoff. Wow ! Good luck in your search. Cursory search for me was negative.
  7. Endotracheal tube was likely necessary to help Robbie Roper breathe ? Probably occurred when be began to have complications from the anesthesia and was misplaced in the esophagus ? Thanks !
  8. For those like myself not familiar with malignant hyperthermia, if in fact the cause. From the Mayo: (excerpts) Malignant hyperthermia is a severe reaction to certain drugs used for anesthesia. This severe reaction typically includes a dangerously high body temperature, rigid muscles or spasms, a rapid heart rate, and other symptoms. Without prompt treatment, the complications caused by malignant hyperthermia can be fatal. In most cases, the defective gene that puts you at risk of malignant hyperthermia is inherited, though sometimes it's the result of a random genetic defect. Genetic testing can reveal whether you have an abnormal gene. This genetic disorder is called malignant hyperthermia susceptibility (MHS) Malignant hyperthermia susceptibility (MHS) is caused by a genetic defect (mutation). The abnormal gene increases your risk of malignant hyperthermia when you're exposed to certain anesthesia medications that trigger a reaction. The abnormal gene is most commonly inherited, usually from one parent who also has it. Less often, the abnormal gene is not inherited and is the result of a random gene mutation. In most cases, no signs or symptoms of susceptibility to malignant hyperthermia exist until you're exposed to certain drugs used for anesthesia. In rare cases, people at risk of malignant hyperthermia have shown signs of a reaction after intense physical activity during excessive heat or humidity, during a viral illness, or when taking statin medication. If you're at risk of malignant hyperthermia and you don't have a serious reaction during your first exposure to certain anesthesia drugs, you're still at risk if you receive these drugs in the future. Other anesthesia medications that don't trigger a reaction can be used instead. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/malignant-hyperthermia/symptoms-causes/syc-20353750
  9. Providing she is fully recovered from injury, Popelka should definitely contribute. Doesn't have the HR power that MW covets, but hit .375 in 27 games with 13/14 SB's "Speed never has a bad day"...Gus
  10. Can you give us an early starting lineup ? Good move to add these OF's. I count 21 on the roster with only 2 freshmen (Quiroga and Holmes) listed as OF's. Utility players like Burke and Popelka have played OF and also other position players. I am going to miss Kaitlyn Washington. Fan of her approach at the plate. Had some defensive miscues at the end of the season, but an overall solid player.
  11. True, but Scott Bryant, Kieschnick (2 time winner) and Jungmann won the Dick Howser Trophy which along with the Golden Spikes Award (no winners) are considered by most to be the most prestigious. Regardless, and the Howser winners would agree, the only thing that really matters is Omaha.

    RIP Dad

Great story as the other stories you related about your great Dad ! You told them in a way we felt we knew him. Thanks for sharing ! Thoughts and prayers !
  13. Sark addresses Patterson at approx 17:16. At about 17:44 he states "we have not made the determination we want him here.." which could cause concern by Patterson.
  14. Excerpts from the Texas Monthly article. Mueller’s final business venture was at the Granary in Jarrell, which is still operating under the watchful eye of longtime, on-again-off-again Mueller employee Jeff Ancira. Ancira took the reins after Mueller was hospitalized earlier this year. Mueller spent weeks in the hospital, and the family let me know that they were preparing for the end. Then he recovered. For one last time, John Mueller was back. Tracy and Tim Hutchins gave him a job at their Hutchins BBQ restaurant in Frisco, and Mueller was building fires once again. “He was in a happy spot,” Tim Hutchins says. https://www.texasmonthly.com/bbq/john-mueller-barbecue-legend-dies-at-52/ Twitter from Texas Monthly article. Active until 11 Dec. https://twitter.com/JSM_meat RIP, John !
  15. 38-21 final. Props to LBJ for continuing to battle. Would have been easy to fold.
  16. https://www.zdnet.com/paid-content/article/6-ways-to-customize-windows-11/ https://www.elevenforum.com/ I have not upgraded, not sure I will. Have checked some reviews. 17. Helps the RPI to play road games if formula is still the same. @Huckleberry may have thoughts. Don't follow closely, not sure below is current. (Note the first conference series is @Tech. Always nice to start with a home conference series.) 1. Division I winning percentage (25%)2. Opponent's Division I winning percentage (50%)3. Opponents' opponents' Division I winning percentage (25%)The new formula will value each home win as 0.7 and each road victory as 1.3, a change from the customary 1.0 of the past. Conversely, each home loss will be weighted as 1.3, and each road loss will count 0.7 against a team's RPI.Neutral site games will continue to be weighted the same value of 1.0. https://www.abca.org/magazine/2013-1-Winter/Ground_Rules_Understanding_the_new_RPI.aspx
  18. Congrats to Coach Traylor and UTSA ! Saw below photos. Texas lives rent-free in the minds of college football fans.
  19. Do you have any info on the Connor Robertson injury ?
  20. Brandon Belt will be back with the Giants in 2022. Belt, the first baseman and holdover from Giants championship teams, accepted the club’s $18.4 million qualifying offer to return next season, according to the MLB players’ association. Belt is now the Giants’ longest-tenured player, after Posey’s exit, and a popular figure. The decision does not rule out the Giants and Belt discussing a longer deal. https://www.sfchronicle.com/sports/giants/article/Giants-Brandon-Belt-accepts-qualifying-offer-16629862.php
  21. Below story is from the LA Times on how Sarkisian shut out everyone from his past in Calif, most notably John Featherstone who persuaded him to start playing football at El Camino JC. Featherstone recently passed away and never heard from Sarkisian. Perhaps this conduct is normal for people who have overcame alcoholism in a need to block the past, don't know. But it supports your opinion. Marsden should know he is not alone. On Sarkisian’s breakneck journey back to the top at Texas, he shut out other key people from his past, including his coach and mentor at Torrance’s El Camino College, the now-deceased John Featherstone, and El Camino offensive coordinator, Gene Engle. These men were important enough to Sarkisian that he invited them to a USC spring practice in 2015 as an acknowledgment of the role they played in his development. Later that fall, Feather and Engle called to tell him that they were praying for him, they loved him and would support him through anything. Like Marsden, they never heard from Sarkisian again. “Other than God, who really knows what’s in the heart of a man?” Engle says. “So I can’t speak to what’s inside Steve. Both Feather and I were really hurt. It bothers me a lot.” https://www.latimes.com/sports/usc/story/2021-09-02/to-recover-from-usc-fall-texas-coach-steve-sarkisian-shut-out-those-who-built-him
  22. Do recruits sit in the end zone ? Thought they would sit with their parents (if accompanied) near the parent section close to midfield (or used to be) ? But as someone previously mentioned, it was Student Parents Weekend so perhaps a change.
  23. Lake will fit right in. Note the 4th qtr.
