  1. They don’t need to, but the Big 10 didn’t need ORWA
  2. The SEC will be in a great position to grab the best ACC schools now, but will they be patient?
  3. I’m definitely concerned the SEC will feel the need to add a couple Big 12 schools that don’t really make financial sense just to keep up appearances
  4. My cousin, a Canadian national who got his undegrad up there, but is a huge Cyclone fan, has spent countless game weekends in Ames and even attended classes with me while visiting, has joked that he’s a figurative/honorary alum
  5. I thought there was a possibility my old man and him were there at the same time, but it looks like Crow graduated a few months before the old man got on campus.
  6. The Big 12 always ended up with more money than they previously had. Even if the Pac survives, they’re all doing it for less money and awful exposure. It’s survival, but removing themselves from the game in a lot of ways. Which I’ve long assumed they would do until last week.
  7. I'm not going to go back through old threads, but I've seen some definite outrage/whining about it here. Probably just a select few, but they're pretty loud about it.
  8. There are people on this board who absolutely care.
  9. I'm all for playful mocking of any religion. Burning a cross in someone's yard is a very direct threat of violence, and an act of arson. Sexual assault is sexual assault. Using a sacrament tray to serve booze is disrespectful, but it's in no way threatening or assaulting.
  10. Ok, I'm all in on Utah. That's funny as hell. You've gotta be able to laugh at that.
  11. He's an ISU alum, unfortunately. I don't know if he spent a lot of time getting wedgies in Ames or something, but he really seems to hate the Midwest.
  12. And half of the Big 12 opens with a conference win. I don't see this being an issue. Getting that increased exposure outweighs seeing "1-0" on the record for everyone. And any more, a lot of the OOC P5 games the Big 12 is playing are being played opening week.
  13. That's a repeated trope on this board, but in general it only applies to Baylor. And you'd still have 3 OOC games.
  14. It's message boards and Twitter, but they're like lock step in unison in denigrating the Big 12 as something beneath them. It's not a couple fans, it's nearly every single one with an online presence. I think Utah's a very good program on the field. That doesn't have fuck all to do with anything in realignment. The Big 12 is such a massive upgrade from going down with the Pac 12 ship, and they act like it's a lesser choice. They are explicit that they don't think they should have to associate with schools like us. Not football programs - schools, fanbases, humans. The people of the Plains/Midwest are inferior humans. Again, it's message board silliness, but it seems like a definite feature of their collective culture, and I'm glad to have a fanbase or two that thinks like this. Arizona fans are excited about joining the Big 12. The 4 schools that called up are excited about joining the Big 12. Colorado fans are a bit like Utah, but there's a lot more enthusiasm. Utah would rather be in a reconstituted Pac/MWC. That's not a reason to not add a valuable program, but it is a reason to view their fans as heels in the new arrangement.
  15. Breakfast burritos and breakfast tacos are two completely separate things, like regular burritos and tacos. A burrito is a large tortilla filled with ingredients and rolled shut on the ends. A taco is a smaller tortilla filled with ingredients and left open. Is there a regional argument about those definitions?
  16. Neither do I. My comment was directed at athletes gambling, period. I've pointed out, more than once in this thread, that Dekkers is a special breed of idiot.
  17. I don't think Utah is evil. I just think their fans come off as laughably delusional and easy to dislike. They'll make things more entertaining for sure.
  18. Yup. The Big 10 has been playing a game or two in that spot. The Big 12 should play a whole slate
  19. Kinda shifting gears here, but I really think the Big 12 should look hard at doing conference games on Week 0 in the future. For as much as Yormark is looking for creative ways to create exposure, I think opening the season in Week 0 with a pile of conference games is a brilliant move. You have the whole thing as a show case for the Big 12, and it allows you to add extra byes throughout the conference season, which reduces the load on the various TV windows and creates more opportunity for lesser match ups to get a linear window throughout the regular season. I think it would be similar to playing Friday games, but on steroids. And selfishly it would let me make a conference game every year. Yeah, I realize it's fucking hot throughout the league in late August, but it's not like a week later results in a big change in weather.
  20. If we're going for subjective "fit" with the music, few singers fit the music better than Rod with the Faces and his early solo career.
  21. Everyone needs a villain and the new Big 12 was feeling a little chummy outside of your usual spats (Farmageddon, Revivalry, Tech/OSU arguing about hand pistols). Utah's delusion fills that void well.
  22. I'm talking about players gambling, not betting on your team. There were 20 something athletes at ISU and 40 something at Iowa who got caught in this sting. It looks like 3-4 out of ~60 were betting on their team. There are very few people betting on their own games. There are shitloads of people gambling in general. If you think that there aren't a shit load of Texas players gambling on sports, you're fucking delusional.
  23. That's not his mug shot. It's a head shot for the football program.
