    Is Punk Dead?

In punk's case, that's accurate. But from the late 50's until the early 00's, rock music of some kind was a dominant cultural thing, and you had plenty of flashes of punk/punk inspired acts seeing mainstream success a long the way. It seems to me that has passed, and rock will continue to exist in much the same way jazz does. Probably more popular as long as anyone in this thread is alive, but quite clearly to the side of whatever "matters". If anything "matters" in this era of proliferated artistic mediums. Honestly, the idea of any kind of cultural homogeneity as it pertains to art is probably something from a bygone era.

    Is Punk Dead?

Yeah, there's plenty of kickass snot-nosed rock music still being made. But it's a niche product rather than a cultural force.
  4. Yeah, nothing wrong with it. I just like Cheetos, I guess.

    Is Punk Dead?

I fucking love Nirvana, but it's really obvious with the passage of time that Kurt Cobain was absolutely one of those douchey self-important gatekeeper twats, and just a generally shitty person. I listened to "Come As You Are" this spring on audiobook, and it really hammered that point home. 50 year old Kurt Cobain would have been absolutely nauseating. It's fucking remarkable that Frances Bean is as well adjusted as she is. 11 year old Al thought he was the coolest guy that ever lived, too.
  6. I'm struggling to wonder what was wrong with the Cheetos in the first place, but I should know better than to scoff at this.
  7. This, right here, is why men learn to play guitar. You truly love rock and roll - many of us do - but this is why you bother to attempt making it.
  8. When that came out last fall, I listened to it for nearly a week straight.
  9. You're the fucking poster child for what I'm describing. This post is dripping with your weird little fetish. User name definitely checks out.
  10. It's interesting that you get those teams, cause I can hear it too. But it wasn't written by the guy who was in that space. I do kinda like you're hypothetical of RC giving it to Evan for that purpose. Also, I really do love Chipping Mill. RC has such an underrated knack for melody, and while he doesn't always write these jaw dropping couplets, his songs are littered with great one-liners and pretty vivid imagery. The "backstrap from the morning kill/I always kept the best for you" knocked me in the gut the first time I heard it.
  11. Well, that, and more importantly to this thread, there are about 4-5 posters in this thread that are emotionally invested in the Big 12 burning down in the wake of UT and OU leaving and are very much wishcasting to that end. It doesn't really make sense to me, because Texas got what it wanted, but they just can't be ok with those schools being happy. At the end of the day, college fans watch good games, when they aren't watching their teams. I watched games out of nearly every league last year if the match up was compelling. There are teams I find fun to watch in all of the other conferences, and ISU playing those teams isn't a big driver. I'll watch a tight ACC game over TCU blowing out KU any day, for reasons that have nothing to do with the programs involved.
  12. I realize a few of you badly want that to happen, but all of the recent momentum suggests otherwise. The Pac 12 died, the Big 12 added schools out west, and created separation on the basketball front from everyone else. It's not going to be the SEC and Big 10, and we all get that. It's not going to be the AAC or Mountain West either. By having an entertaining football program that helps round out content packages, and being the premiere hoops league, the Big 12 carves out a niche in the landscape of college sports. As long as we have enough money to pay coaches well, upgrade our facilities, and play enough of an NIL game to pull studs up from below or keep some good players around, we have what we need. All indications are that will continue to exist. The fact that some of you guys view the I8 fans being content with the arrangement as some form of chest puffing is absolutely wild to me.
  13. This already happened. We got paid a lot less than the Big 10 and the SEC. You know, what we're actually worth. Without Texas and OU. This isn't some hypothetical.
  14. There are still 22 guys on the field at a time. They need playing time and exposure to make the NFL. All of these guys think they can make the league. For every diamond that gets stolen by a blue blood, there’s a talented dude on an SEC roster not getting the PT he wants. This is gonna traffic both directions and lead to the same aggregate talent differential we already have. It’s just that the path to that point will look really different
  15. I think "A Long Ways From Your Heart" is their best album. All of their 5 proper albums are A- to A levels for me, personally. There are probably less than 5 songs in their whole catalog I skip, and I can't say that about anyone. They've maintained a remarkably consistent and high quality output. Prior to the current album, I made the following 12 song playlist for a friend that had never really "got" Turnpike: Winding Star Mountain Blues Good Lord Lorrie Tornado Warning Ringing In the Year Long Drive Home Morgan Street The Funeral Whole Damn Town Pay No Rent Diamonds & Gasoline The Bird Hunters The Housefire
  16. Their actual first album "Bossier City" which is no longer in print, had a much more standard "Red Dirt" sound that came off more like some of those hokier acts that spend their entire career playing in Texas (Casey Donahew comes to mind, and I legit like a few of his songs). They played up the accents to sound more Southern and shit like that, and used more standard tropes in their songwriting. They found their own voice pretty quickly after that. There's a reason that they've absolutely exploded, and their front man is regarded as one of the best modern songwriters.
  17. Sounds great to me. I hate the FCS game ISU plays.
  18. You're an idiot, you're trolling, or both.
  19. Who is still doing this? This hasn't been a thing in awhile for the vast majority of Big 12 schools. I see this talking point routinely on this board and it doesn't jive with reality at this point.
  20. You think eliminating auto bids does this? Seriously? It just allows for the committee to put the 12 brands with the largest fanbases in. Auto bids force their to be some level of tangible accomplishment to be included in the playoff instead of putting a 9-3 Big 10 team who never played Ohio State or Michigan into the playoffs because they have more fans than the 10-2 Big 12 champ.
  21. In a division-less format, the risk of the ACC or Big 12 champ being undeserving of participating in a 12 team playoff is nil. Almost every year that team will be as good (if not better than) as the 2nd/3rd place Big 10 team. Let's not forget that the Big 10 champ got knocked out of the playoffs by a team who didn't technically win the Big 12 last year. I mean, TCU was really the Big 12 champion, but they don't have a trophy saying it.
  22. Relegation hard on. That's what it is.
