  1. Get yourself a Rachio; it does it for you!
  2. Kids still can’t get vaxxed, and we have a lot of friends with young kids. Not a 100% obviously; but it is what it is. As soon as they approve it for pediatric use my 5 and 2 year olds will be getting their shots and I won’t care.
  3. Yes, there's already half a dozen Covid threads, but not one for this specifically. For those of us fully vaxxed, what are you doing these days that you didn't for the past year+? Here's what we're already doing: I'm eating inside restaraunts again (even though they are understaffed). I just sent out an invite for my annual Memorial Day Barbecue, with the caveat that if you aren't vaxxed you aren't welcome. Smaller guest list this year, but it's back, baby. We've stopped requiring masks at my office, as we know all staff are fully vaxxed. Still requiring masks for visitors, but with the new data, it's really to protect the unvaxxed, not us. Planning vacations - with kids - for this summer/fall. Planning to go to JazzFest in October (that will be weird in the Fall instead of the Springs, but glad it's happening). Can't wait to stop wearing a mask in stores/restaurants/etc. Looking forward to a real football season.
  4. Still being pushed back multiple times. Lost count of how many. Not even giving her a "range" for delivery. The dealer contact did say that they were notified a VIN has been assigned, so maybe that means we will get it this month?
  5. No CR please. My wife and I have been venturing out more these days; and long waits, slow service, etc. seems to be the norm. The places themselves don’t seem overly packed; it just seems like they don’t have enough staff to run at 100% pre pandemic levels when it comes to in person dining. Now that more folks (myself included) are fully vaxxed and willing to eat in public again; has the demand outstripped the labor pool? (I see A LOT of help wanted signs at restaurants these days). Or has the volume of curbside/to go orders just swamped kitchens and put in person diners behind the curve? Or am I just not remembering what it’s like to eat inside since we didn’t for so long?
  6. Blast from the past here, but the whole “kids don’t die from Covid” as a reason to not vaccinate is short sighted, imho. They can spread it, which is a reason to get them vaccinated. And Covid complications, even if they don’t die, can be very serious. There’s a lot of literature about how humans are bad at truly estimating risk, and this is the epitome of that. Death is not the only thing to avoid, and you are dismissing every other risk that can be mitigated by a robust vaccine program, both to your kids and to society at large. Anyway, the mRNA vaccines are one of the greatest scientific and medical advancements in human history. They don’t alter your DNA, they utilize a synthetic mRNA to mimic something that your body can use to defend itself against a real viral pathogen without actually infecting you. They were around pre Covid, but pretty theoretical. And they are special because they can treat many different ailments (including cancer) that this far have eluded our ability to protect against. The fact that we were able to go from a novel disease to a strikingly effective vaccine in under a year is something that we should be celebrating as one of the most amazing feats of human ingenuity in the history of the world. Instead, a large part of the population thinks they are smarter than literally some of the smartest people in the world and “trust their gut” on this when it comes deciding whether to vaccinate their kids. And the fact that someone who claims to be pro vaccine is hesitant about a vaccine that is so effective shows just how bad of a spot we are in. So yes: it is crazy to not get your kids the shots. I have a 5 year old and 2 year old, as soon as it is approved for pediatric use I’m making an appointment for them to get their vaccine.
  7. Zillow says the house I bought at same time is worth worth 200K more less than a year later.
  8. I would like to know the answer to this one. Have one oak that looks like this at my office.
  9. My Twitter feed is obviously not set to “latest news”
  10. Flood gates at Starke and Wirtz dams are open.
  11. Just watched it on HBO Max. Had that thought; but then I thought “well; she just has to wait until the day she goes back and then slip into her old life.” Not spoilering because it has been out for a long while: How did Sator die on the 14th and then also live the rest of the movie to meet the Protagonist, etc? The only thing I can figure is that the Sator who left the yacht on the helicopter is the “younger” Sator and the one who came back on the helicopter is the “older” one who is coming to kill himself once he thinks the job is done.
  12. I liked it. Figured out one of the big plot twists right away. Still; would like to dive into the thread on it now that I’ve actually seen it (wasn’t braving a theater pre vaccines).
  13. Well we got there at 10:30 and the rain didn’t really start until close to 3, at which time my 2 year old was already passed out in the stroller and my 5 year old was ready to leave, so worked perfectly. Except for driving back to Austin through the rain. Holy shit. Multiple points where visibility was maybe 100 feet, going 30 mph or slower on 290, etc. Rain let up when we got to Manor, and then when we getting on the 290 toll a Tesla that was 100 yards ahead of me hydroplaned and spun out across both lanes. It didn’t hit the walls or any other car, but it was enough to get my knuckles even whiter on the steering wheel.
  14. Planning to meet a buddy and his wife/kids out at Sherwood Forest Fair between Elgin/Giddings tomorrow. Probably get there mid morning, and with the ages of our kids, be out of there by 2:00. So, any chance of that actually happening without being washed out? In other words, are the storms going to hold off until afternoon/evening like most spring storm events because of daytime heating?
  15. Yeah, but it’s Hondo. Fuck Hondo! MVHS football rules!
  16. Just found out one of my nephews was murdered in Wichita on Sunday. https://www.kake.com/story/43746055/police-suspects-in-teens-death-forced-their-way-into-wichita-apartment I haven't seen him since he was in middle school, but he was only 17. We are estranged from his mother (too much to go into there - we found out from my MIL, who simply said his mother doesn't want to hear from any of the family about it), but my last memory of the kid was making him confetti pancakes at my house when they were spending the weekend with us 6 or so years ago. Fucking awful.
  17. I agree. You may not save much money each time, but it compounds - well, actually, the opposite of compounds. Discounts? Anyway, future increases are being increased from a lower number.
  18. Mine is homesteaded. May taxes allegedly are going up 52%.
  19. Bought our house last year, so knew that Travis was going to try to get their cut. However, it is now appraised for for almost $70K more than we paid for it in July 2020, and 35% more than the 2020 tax appraisal. Also, the amount of taxes will increase by 52%, even though it is HS. The kicker is they are saying the improvements increased in value from 2020 by 86%. Yeah right. I would beleive the land did, but the actual sticks and wires and plumbing? That shit is another year older. It didn't suddenly almost double in value overnight. Five Stone better do their shit. I will gladly pay them a percent if they can save me that ridiculous increase.
