  1. Good call. The weather should be perfect for fishing.
  2. Went out to Doss to prep this weekend. Gorgeous damn weather. Couple of small hogs fell victim to the 300BO Rem7. Blackey showed up 15 seconds before the feeder went off, as if he'd been there before. Freckles came in with a group of females / piglets about 10 mins after I put one through the ticker of Blackey. They both ran downhill about 40 yds and expired within 20 ft of each other. (note: exit wound on Freckles...angled towards me)
  3. Back to hunting - Anyone headed to the ranch this weekend? I can't ignore this gorgeous weather...going to have to miss the football game in favor of season prep. Hoping to come back with some photos of dead swine.
  4. Agreed. We mostly use our custom rifles at 300+, and about 350 is where we see a significant separation between factory loads and custom rifles. That said, I've seen some pretty damn accurate production rifles....it's just not a guarantee of what you might get. I'm currently playing on the other end of the spectrum and having fun with my little Rem Model 7, which I had Mark Pharr (Tumbleweed Rifles here in Austin...highly recommend!) rebuild into a 300 BO. Subsonics are just a blast out of a bolt....and where we hunt, range isn't an issue and the deer are small.
  5. I'm not following the autoloader context. Speaking strictly bolts here re: .223 Ackley Improved. EDIT - to clarify my previous question, I was genuinely curious about the steps you take to fire form for the .270 bolt, and if it's similar to what is done to fire form a .223 Ackley Improved.
  6. I suspected the trim / necking...but not fire forming. Thanks for clarifying! My father and I have custom rifles from Mike Bush (back when he was working under Underground Skunkworks), but we've never fire formed cases for them. Do you go through a process similar to forming for .223AI?
  7. 100%. What always fucks us up is the weather. Ideally, I love to let them hang (cleaned, not processed) at least a night. But damned if it doesn't get higher than 80, we don't like to let the flies get all over them. Besides bagging them, what do you guys do when it gets hot...just process and put them on ice?
  8. Can I ask what you mean by "custom fit to your .270"? Do you mean the seating depth is optimized for your rifle? i.e.- xyz thousands of an inch off the lands? I'm curious because I've never heard it stated this way...and you got me wondering if (maybe hoping that) Nosler will custom make Accubonds. Those magnificent bastards look hella deadly. My father uses those in his .260 and they do an amazing job. I have really grown attached to Barnes TTSX for my .308...not typical to find them more accurate but for whatever reason, they love my rifle.
  9. I'm confused by the recognition of momentum shift, but the lack of creative adjustments to at least try and recapture it. I refuse to think its apathy. Is it that they genuinely were not able to diagnose it in real time, and hindsight is 20/20? Edit:
  10. And only 40 votes away from UTSA. Meh…
  11. No shit! That smaller one wallowing in the mud (first rain in over 30 days) was just icing on the cake!
  12. I like it...but also feels like when Aggy is playing (enter random SEC team) and they have a Horns Down sign in the background. Fuck Aggie! We need to focus on OU and kick the shit out of the dirt burglars.
  13. This big fucker is teasing me! Edit -- having an argument with my pops -- what does the Surly Hive estimate weight on this guy? Night Pic:
