Just like in the movie, Broke Back Mountain"?

    They left out "cuck"

Sounds like a wonderful man.  RIP.

I do haz a confuse about "was a proud member of the National Championship Team of 1951 that won the Cotton Bowl."  Not that I was alive, but I don't remember a natty in 1951.

I don't either, don't know where the author came up with that one.  I do remember seeing something online about a month ago about "unclaimed" NC's for Texas and think 1951 may have been included.   Thank God we don't put that crap on walls like some people do.

In reference to his playing days and football skills, I don't know how well he punted as a young man, but as our coach he could punt the ball like nobody I had ever seen.  He used to embarrass the hell out of our kickers when he was working with them.  Not to mention that in 1975 he could still bench 400lbs.

  3. Tried to find appropriate thread to post this in, but could not find anything.  Thought he deserved a mention though, he was a great guy and loved Texas all his life.

    Ferdinand Burket IV

Ferdinand “Ferdie” John Burket, IV,  of Jourdanton, Texas, passed away at age 85 on Tuesday, March 27, 2018, surrounded by his family. He was born January 9, 1933, in San Antonio, Texas, to Ferdinand John Burket, III and Anna Regina Zotz Burket.

Raised in San Antonio, Ferd was a 1951 graduate of St. Gerard High School. He excelled in football, baseball and basketball, and he earned a full football scholarship to the University of Texas. While at UT he played quarterback and was a proud member of the National Championship Team of 1951 that won the Cotton Bowl.

After an injury, Ferd returned home to rehab, and later joined the US Army, playing football for them in Germany. After his military service, he received a football scholarship to Southeastern Oklahoma State University, where he met and later in 1959 became engaged to the love of his life, Glynda Ray. A year later Ferd and Glynda were married.

Ferd was drafted by the Baltimore Colts in the 14th round in 1959. He played for the Colts, followed by play for the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Montreal Alouettes for a total of six years.  While in the Canadian Football League (CFL), he set records for most yards rushing, longest punt and most touchdowns (5) in a single game; some of these records still stand today.  Ferd’s accomplishments in sports were acknowledged by these honors:  St.Gerard’s “Athlete of the Half-Century” and inductions into these Halls of Fame: St. Gerard High School, Southeastern Oklahoma State University, and Pleasanton High School.

After a career-ending injury in the CFL, Ferd and Glynda returned to Texas, where he continued his love of sports as a coach, Athletic Director, and teacher at Pleasanton High School. He also invested his time and savings in his treasured career as a rancher and cattleman, surpassed only by his most important time spent in being a loving, supportive husband and father.

Two cars turning left in a median. You FUCKING DRIVE PAST EACH OTHER so you can each FUCKING SEE ONCOMING TRAFFIC. it’s like people want to intentionally block your view and have their view obstructed. It’s dangerous and stupid.

^^^This right here dammit.  Happens every damned day here in Houston, learn to drive people.

Another thing that happens nearly as often is assholes that pass you in the fast lane, pull back into the middle lane and then....slow down??? WTH, this happens every weekend on 59 NB and SB when I'm coming to or leaving work.  I'll be doing 75 or so in the fast lane and someone will come up behind me so I get in the center lane, they quickly pass pull back into the center lane and slow down to 70 or less....selfish asshole bastids.

    Uh, those aren't his legs.

That's exactly what I was thinking.  The boots are positioned as if he had his legs crossed, but they aren't or one leg would be higher and visible in the photo.

Man, I'm  sorry to here that. At what stage did you decide to have it done? It sounds crazy, but doing light reps on certain exercises at the gym is less painful than putting on a shirt, whether it's button down or pull over, putting on deodorant, and even turning a steering wheel. I guess working out is more of a controlled moment so I know what I can do without too much pain. About half the time my wife has to help me get my shirt on, but on the bright side she doesn't like the old missionary position anymore because my shoulders crunch in her ear.  At this point are you wishing you didn't do it? I guess I definitely won't get both done the same year, it's not worth saving $4,500 If there's a good chance I'll have issues. I hope it gets better, I feel for you.

That post is bringing back memories...bad ones.  That is the thing that drove me crazy, extreme pain in certain motion ranges, and far less in others.  The dressing, putting on deodorant, even digging something out of my left jeans pocket were ridiculous, and though better now, still a pain in the ass(shoulder).

I had better luck putting on a button up shirt than a pullover though it was no picnic.  Also washing my hair got beyond ridiculous.  It seemed like every day I discover something else that I had to be careful doing.

Whatever you decide I wish you the best, but like I said, me waiting too long multiplied the pain and recovery many times over.

sorry to hear that.  yeah reverses are done as primary surgeries on bad joints; I was just saying that typically they are put in as revisions.  another big problem with them is that it’s extremely difficult to revise a reverse, if it can be done at all.  try to move that joint around as much as is possible with resistance bands.  motion is lotion.

Yeah, the bands have been my go to, although I've backed off quite a bit in the past weeks due to pain levels.

how long ago did you have it done and how are you doing now?  a reverse is typically a revision to a standard replacement, and you’re right they are a bitch.

Had it done last July.  First surgery on that shoulder, not a revision.  The recovery has been almost a year now, and over the last 1-2 months it has regressed.
Losing range of motion and pain levels slowly creeping upwards again, starting to have trouble with everyday tasks again.

Overuse from my early 20s to late 40s, lots of overhead work. Any simple movement can be very painful, but I'm able to do limited movements with very light weight in the gym. It's been a learning curve over the last 6 years. It's the everyday functions that seem to hurt the most, reaching for something, standing with my arms crossed then putting my arms down, and probably the worst is sleeping. Half of the ball on my right humorus is worn down, its completely flat on one side.

Just saw this...get it done NOW in my highly prejudicial opinion.

No amount of therapy/rehab is going to fix that.

yeah shoulder replacements don’t do as well as knees and hips.  I’d try every other route imaginable until the knife is the last resort.

There's more to look at than that unfortunately.  True, shoulders don't do as well as knees or hips and are a very complicated joint.  It took me 3-4 years to even find someone who would do mine, as most didn't want to do it when I was 58-59.  Finally found a great orthopod, but had unfortunately waited too long and the only option was a REVERSE replacement, which is pure hell compared to a straight replacement.

My advice is hell yes get it done before it gets to the point of no return, sure wish I had.

Anyone else ever walk into a public bathroom, see a dude with long hair, facing away from you, and you have to double check to make sure you didn't accidentally walk into the ladies room.  Damn hippies.

Ha ha, had that happen on account of me.  Nope, no haircut coming any time soon either.

I've had it just below full at Hertz and National before.. I make sure to point it out and I am typcially not charged for returning it with half a tank...

    So, it happens.

This reminded me of a situation we run into here at work on occasion.  There are times we'll need to rent/lease additional air compressors or generators.  The rental company has the same "return it full" policy, so I will always tell my guys to be sure and fill the machines up with diesel before returning to the rental company across the street.   On one billing, I noticed nearly everything we returned had a fuel charge on them.  I got the guys together and raised hell about it and they swore they filled them up, so at that point I let it go.

A couple weeks go by and we have 2 compressors to return, so I decide to fill them up myself.   There is a clearly marked line and warning on the tank, "Do Not Fill Above This Line".  So I fill them up, have them returned and sure enough 2 weeks later get the invoice with "fuel charges" on them.   I went across the street to raise hell, and their manager and I went out to look at the machines we returned (hadn't been rented since).   Yep, fuel had been added all the way to the cap, way above where it says "do not fill above".   Turns out there service guy filled them to the top  and each "neck" area held an additional 4 gallons.   Needless to say we got the charges dropped.
