  1. We just had a big oak limb fall on my workshop/shed. Fun times tomorrow.

IDK how her particular situation would have been dealt with. The exponential increase in gender dysphoria diagnoses in the past 20 years or so does give me pause.

Cool. Where is this failure to "have a discussion in good faith?" I responded to a "research study" posted up thread. Happy to discuss.

You say it so nicely. Thank you.
  5. FWIW, my aggy 2-percenter is in formation to be a Dominican nun. No procreation anticpated!

Thanks for the mention, but I am both a dad and a grandfather. My wife's grandmother took my MIL to the doctor when she was around 10-11 and wondered if something was wrong with her. She told the Doc that MIL didn't want to wear dresses, climbed trees, played baseball, and slugged it out with boys that harassed her younger brother. Doc told her to give it a couple of years and errything would work out fine. It did. She was a sexy mother of four. I'm thinking that she might have been a candidate for hormones and top surgery if presented to a physician today.

Lobotomies were celebrated as a huge medical breakthrough in the 40's and 50's. Then reality set in. I predict the same fate for much of "gender affirming care" once these kids grow up.

Thanks. I have no brief with adults choosing to live their lives however they want to. It's the kids getting caught up in "gender affirming care" that bothers me.

Weird, huh? Diagnoses of youths with gender dysphoria surge https://www.reuters.com/investigates/special-report/usa-transyouth-data/
  10. Assume that it is live oak.
  11. Some obvious defects at the base, but it shows why trees don't live forever. That tree will make a lot of good BBQ smoking wood!

Very cool. But I'm also sure that it took a while for the adverse lobotomy claims to show up, too. But they will. This "transgender movement" is all nonsense wrapped up in a social media trend.
  13. From your keyboard to G-d's ears! 2021 ice storm was around a 10-year supply for my every weekend smoking habit.
  14. I'm out in the country near Liberty Hill. The live oak tree limbs are full of ice. We are likely to get some more BBQ wood on the ground between now and when 33 degrees happens. I am nowhere close to using up all of the BBQ wood that the 2021 ice storm gave us. The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away. Blessed be the name of the Lord.
  15. I told my kids that they could get their first degree anywhere they wanted to go without any college loan debt, except that all we would pay for would be the cost of in-state tuition at a public school in Texas. I ended up with an aggy grad (but a full 2 percenter, to her credit!) and an UNT grad. Both fully deployed into life and no college loan debt.
  16. Salesmen are what makes the world go around --ask Rush:
  17. I've been doing this from time to time on Terry Kath and his 25 or 6 to 4 solos for the past 40 years! I can do a lick or two, but man, he was great! Me -- I am still a well below average rythm guitar player. Rocking those chords though!

    All of them, I'm thinking.
  19. For sure, this. Up the thread, I talked about learning how to party in college -- it was way more than that. I went the frat route at Texas -- don't hate me. But that experience taught me a shit load of how to interact socially with all kinds of people in many settings. Mixers, dinners, parties and such that all had the upper classmen riding herd on you to keeping you from being a total dumbfuck with manners and social skills. Fast forward to being in an international professional services firm. Very early in my career I demonstrated that I was good at hanging socially with Senior Partners and important clients. I may not have been the smartest guy or most senior guy in my class at the firm, but I got way ahead of others on the partner track due to the social stuff I learned in college.
  20. Typing, algebra, logic, debits and credits (how to read a financial statement), and the concept of the time value of money have been the most important skills/concepts in my business professional career. Some of that I got in HS, some in college. But I really learned how to party in college -- so there's that.
  21. I do not disagree with you. Road to Hana can be a beating.
  22. Nah, those Charro beans served on the side look pretty legit.
  23. That looks like "Hacienda Colorado" -- part of the Uncle Julio's Restaurant Group chain.
  24. That is why it is often called a pork confit. I'm sure that Jack knows what he's doing, and that is pretty much the recipe I used, but I added a final step to a big batch of carnitas that I made for an event this past weekend. Pull and shred the cooked pork onto a baking sheet in single layers and put into a hot oven (maybe 425) until the pork develops some crispy brown goodness.
